Re: Worst Company in America
I knew that they could terminate the online features of a game with 30 days notice, as they have done with numerous games in the past (which makes sense if nobody's playing them), and that Rock Band has licensing issues which is probably why they're shutting it down, but not to have heard about this...

Re: Legend of Grimrock
I've not had much time on my hands of late, and like a few people in this thread, Legend of Grimrock has passed me by - It's only by chance that I saw it in a mailshot from GOG.com. Just pre-ordered it and I can't wait!

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
I enjoyed HL2 - it did a great job of telling a story but it did take a while to pick up the pace, and there are a lot of quiet moments that I didn't necessarily get along with. I absolutely loved the episodes to death though. They seem to have a purpose, and there is a lot more ambience to them. Se...

Re: Education as a game developer.
Hi Rasmus, sorry for my late reply - I haven't had much time to check the forums lately. The town I live in is quite large, but it's not a very computer-oriented place. More and more web-development and IT jobs are appearing all the time but there are no games studios in my town and very few in neig...

I'm so glad I'm not going mad either Gambit! I've got a little story just to prove your sanity, seen as eBay doesn't seem to track bids on cancelled auctions: Okay, I was searching eBay last week for Nexus and SNES DM (I know, I know - shame on me for not having them already), and nearly passed out ...

Re: Education as a game developer.
I finished my degree in Computer Games Development nearly two years ago now and it was the best four years of my life. Not just the social life but the actual education - the sheer amount of knowledge I was exposed to was overwhelming. The course was run by an ex-games developer and an AI expert. Th...

Re: Starcraft II
So I fired the beta up last night to see if SC2 lives up to the hype and on first impressions it's pretty good. The game's nicely presented and got into a match quickly and easily. Picked back up quickly too, the core principles are the same by the looks of things. Almost everyone I played against p...

Re: Which Smartphone to go for?
Have you looked at the Nexus One? I've been eyeing it for my next phone when it makes it's way over here. Seems to be a great contender against the iPhone too. The 1Ghz processor might be a bit overkill though, if you decided that you don't need a powerful phone!

Re: Starcraft II
Hmmm, I never really got into playing Starcraft hardcore multiplayer style but had a bit of a play with the mission editor when the game first came out. I remember it being quite in-depth - enough for me to create a mini-campaign, complete with voice-overs. Probably still have it lying around on a Z...

Re: Sci-fi dungeons?
Funnily enough, that's what I'm working on at the moment. I have a few puzzles nailed and a few maps drawn, a bit of a story too, but settling on an engine is proving a little difficult. Nor sure what to do, RTC is fine for the puzzles I have at the moment but it seems I may struggle with a few of t...

Do I sense a little scepticism there cows? Granted I'd take it with a pinch of salt, but where did you hear / read this thing about it only reconising light-skinned people and working in near-perfect lighting? I thought the thing had IR projector and some other magic gubbins that allowed it t...

Fraps immediately springs to mind for capture software. I've not used it in a long time and there may be better alternatives but there's a lot of support and tutorials as it's possibly the most common.

High res interface + low res dungeon graphics: Have you just invented a new graphical style Gambit?! It evokes a fantastic feeling of nostalgia but with the freshness of a glacial stream.

Re: Bloodbane Rising : Teaser
Seconded Beo's comment, said exactly what I was thinking. Coincidentally, I've recently just finished Linflas' Sukumvit's Labyrinth and the mix of DM2 GFX and materials from other sources made it feel familiar yet fresh. To be honest, it's the level design and storytelling that makes a good game for...

Still not too sure about L4D - There's just something about it that's stopping me loving it but I can't figure it out. I've got both versions and I can't get into either of them. Maybe it's because I've just not played it with the right people (although it is the first game I've played where the AI ...

I guess I'm probably the biggest fan of Capcom's horror series here Challenge Accepted Mr Trantor! Nice review there too, and agree with you on the development length. Got to admit the video does look damn good, especially the Parisian creation at the end - someone's spent a lot of time on that (or maybe not, if the video is to be believed!) What really surprises me though is that a lot of the gaming press seems to be reacting to the map editor as if it's somethin...

I remember reading about Limbo of the Lost on Joystiq and Kotaku when the whole copyright shebang started, never thought it'd get linked back to here. It's worth reading the original thread over at NeoGAF where it was first noticed, if only to see the true extent of the plagarism involved - Oblivion...
