City of Shadows - My first free-to-download campaign setting!

Hey Folks, I went into the deep end and had a go at a campaign setting! It is RPG agnostic, so you can use whatever system you like. Here is City of Shadows: The Legend of Valaya : https://www.wargamevault.com/product/461145/City-of-Shadows--A-Legend-of-Valaya-Campaign-Setting DARE YE ENTER???! :o A...

Runestar D12 - my mass-fantasy wargame!

Hey folks, After over a decade of work I finally got round to launching my wargame - Runestar D12! It's not just for fantasy wargamers, I'm also creating an original, illustrated world for RPGers too. https://www.wargamevault.com/product/446517/Runestar-D12 Its a pretty book and packed full of lore ...

Re: Dragost - The Citadel of Chaos (Playtesting phase)

Yes, I liked it. Pretty much "straight forward" :) I could not open all doors and solve all puzzles. For example the "barracks" door or that one marked s someone's tomb. And could not solve the phantom armory and the "Dragon fart"" puzzle. Can these one be solved ...

...finished it :) Looking forward to the next part! I like the low-power feeling of the dungeon, more please :) Hehe nice one Leslie. I have some more motivation to complete it now! Will recommence work soon. Did you like the 'answer' to the problem of the final gold key in the Halls of Illusion? I...

Re: Dragost - The Citadel of Chaos (Playtesting phase)

There will be four characters. I will commission artists to do portraits and add new monster sprites. Also will add sound effects, but for now it is straight up vanilla dungeon master. The whole point is that there are no fights or easy ways to level up! You are on the run, always anxious, always vu...

Spoiler
The answer to the thousand grains is quite a common thing1 Think about something that breaks down into sand with time
Thanks man, I will fix those dead end pits!
Spoiler
Did the dragon pit catch you out or do you always jump in for playtesting purposes?!

Re: Dragost - The Citadel of Chaos (Playtesting phase)

Those priest and wizard levels may not be useful for runes, but you may find items which only a mage can use... The darkness is all part of the experience! As long as it isn't *too hard*, it is all part of the atmosphere. If people keep getting stuck or dying in the darkness I will add more torches!...

Re: Dragost - The Citadel of Chaos (Playtesting phase)

Thank you for your feedback Jahmiann! 1) I will fix the dead end! 2) Get ready to run. To run A LOT! 3) The Keeper is a bit annoying, but you can 'Terror Chant' him to get him out the way. 4) The clue is in the dialogue before. 'Beware the walls do not keep evil within the castle'. You can use the s...

Good call Saumun! I will do so in 10 mins!

Is this working? Might get a playtester now :)

This is just level one! I need to know:

a) If the puzzles are too obscure
b) If you need more light / food
c) What the atmosphere is like!

Dragost - The Citadel of Chaos (Playtesting phase)

Hey folks, After something like a ten year absence, I started making dungeons again! I have a demo level for Dragost ready to go if anyone is interested in playtesting! Just send me a PM and we can go from there. At the moment the graphics are vanilla but I will eventually get round to re-drawing or...

Re: (2nd?) Best game in DM's genre?

Betrayal at Krondor is my joint number one. Dungeon Master is supreme at creating atmosphere and tension, still upon the throne of fantasy dungeon crawlers in 2018! BaK was supreme at characterization, depth and story. It took until Planescape: Torment, in my opinion, for a game to reach those aesth...

Haha glad to hear it pal :) I am also a traditionalist in that sense. Couldn't play DM2 because it was too outdoorsy and I couldn't stand most of the new graphics! Fortunately I am working on a new dungeon now, which will make up for the folly of my youthful self! Those silly dungeons and their sill...

Re: Are custom dungeons for players, or the creators?

I always design for the player. I want to make an interesting experience which rewards cleverness and risk taking, far more so than grinding! Players often want to be as powerful and in control as possible - finding ways to subvert that and provoke in-game anxiety is what I am looking to do :) The b...

'Activated items'

Hey all I am designing a new dungeon with lots of powerful, but limited use arcane weapons. These can change as the game progresses, gaining and losing abilities. Some of them will need to be 'activated' by fulfilling certain mini-quests. For instance, a sword with a core of fire can be 'activated' ...

Re: Art vs commerce and intellectual property

For the people defending intellectual property, beware that you do not also defend monopoly. Large corporations grow exponentially, and they eat up other people's creativity every single day. The amount of talent that is devoured and homogenized by these power-entities is immense. If you made a game...

Can I make all of the above work with the current engine? Thanks for your replies, my friends. The more interest I get on this the more I am encouraged to see it through. That is indeed an equally good way of doing things Sophia which had not occured to me! The only reason I would stick with the current SnS + Vul roll equal/under on 2D6 is that it is one quick dice roll. Also thre are a number of special mechanics in the game (critical hits, parry, mortal wounds) whi...
