Re: Retro Video game magazines

I used to get pretty much every games magazine available every month through my teenage years - Computer & Video Games, Crash, Zzap!, Your Sinclair, Sinclair User, ST Format, Amiga Format, The One, The Games Machine, ZERO, Mean Machines, ACE, EDGE, ST Action... and many more! Some mags sprang up...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I've been stuck at the 'Checkered Room' for a couple of nights now, and I'm way too stubborn to look at hints (I completed DM as a kid without the help of a guide, and I'll do the same for this dammit). The upshot is that while idly and somewhat desperately retreading the upper levels I've uncovered...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I just got to the start of level 5 last night, looking forward to another session when I'm settled tonight. Dungeon Master experience is definitely proving useful as far as the puzzles are concerned so far - it's often a case of seeing the 'type' of layout before me and immediately understanding wha...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Played for a couple of hours and I'm super impressed. It's Dungeon Master 2012 (even down to some knowing puzzle references). Mechanics are spot-on and the atmosphere is incredible. If the level design stays true to its promise we're onto something special here. Took me a while to get used to right-...

Re: Undercroft iPhone game

I'm a couple of hours into this and can only echo that it's excellent, and more than anything makes me pine for a DM port for the iPad. It's a lovely engine. DM would work so well on these devices.

Re: Your personal "Games of the decade(s)"?

80s - Dungeon Master . Big surprise! 90s - Super Mario World . The 90s were a pretty great decade for favourites, but forced to choose one I'll go for the best platform game ever made. 00s - Phantasy Star Online . The most perfect, concise and infinitely repeatable online game I've ever played. Even...

I'm a big lover and collector of videogame music old and new, but I especially have a soft spot for the C64 and Amiga, which are what kicked off the interest in the audio of a game being just as important as anything else. Anyways, lots of the best Amiga stuff has been covered here, but my favourite...

The first thing that popped into my mind when I downloaded the Creature Creator was to make a bunch of DM monsters too, I didn't get round to it yet though.

Destined to be the most motion-sickness inducing game ever. I can't even watch the trailers

Still, it's an interesting and fresh idea. Hopefully it will turn out well because we certainly need more of those.

I've been collecting and working my way (slowly) through a whole bunch of classic RPGs, and naturally the Ultimas are on the list. My only experience of them - aside from a bit of dabbling in DOSbox to see if they work - is with Ultima IV and VII. I never had a gaming PC when these things were first...

Hi and welcome :D

You're the opposite of me - I've been playing DM all these years and let most of the other classic RPGs pass me by, and now I've started playing them (I'm working my way through Pool of Radiance at the moment).

Ooh, to be coming to DM fresh though... what a treat!

Hmm... mine would be an overlap between the late 80s and early 90s - essentially the '16 bit' era. I did have a lot of fun with the 8-bit systems, the Spectrum, C64, and the consoles, but once I found myself with an ST and Amiga, then Megadrive and SNES I was absolutely in heaven. I'm a bit of a gru...

I can't get past the feeling that alongside the age factor Adamo mentioned, there's also a strong conformist mentality at work in these lists. The list was compiled from months of polls from readers, industry people, etc. I think it's a fairly decent top 10. I don't agree with all of it personally but I understand the quality of the games. I don't like Resident Evil 4 much, for example, and I've never been a huge fan of Zelda games. Final ...
