Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Cross Key = 296, Gold Key = 200, Solid Key = 356, Ra-Key = 428, Onyx Key = 196, Master Key = 704, Turquoise/Emerald/Saphire Keys = 472

The textures are temporary - just to make it clearer which keys are which.

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

I'd like to keep it to one for recognizeability.. Just in case it attracts some new players. You want to be able to know if you have the right key for the door. With one specific look you should be able to tell this door is the same as the other door with this kind of key. Speaking of keys - I did ...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Hey DSE - are you a member of any of the 3d modelling forums that are around (Scifi meshes etc). If you need artists for building and rigging monsters - they might be a good place to drum up help. I could have a go at modelling some creatures - although I havent done a lot of character modelling. Do...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

I still have some objects kicking around from the last time we spoke if you are interested. Dont have any characters, but quite a few weapons, keys, rings, potion bottles, shields and magic boxes.

Hey DSE - couple of questions

1. Can you use spherical environment maps for reflective objects?
2. How are objects handled in Entombed (i.e. do compound objects need to be merged and mapped as one object - or are they mapped separately?)

hey no problem - I have some more stuff for you - but i'll shelve it for the moment - perhaps i'll concentrate on textures for a while - see if I can get a few of those models looking better - it'd be a shame to put dull grey models in.

Cool. Does Direct-X 9 allow you to specify specular highlights, transparency and reflectivity or do these all have to be simulated using maps.

I`m thinking specifically about shiny ransparent things like gems and creatures (e.g. water elemental from DM)

Hey - DSE What mapping do you apply to items etc. I have started on the items you require - but need to know how you want the textures/materials. Are these also 512x512 - or can you take a mixture e.g. 128x128, 256x256 as appropriate Do you apply normal maps to items? What about specular, transparen...

Ok - that gives me something to go on. The links I posted are pretty good texture creators. They also allow you to export height maps and colour maps separately. Unfortunately they dont allow you to create normal maps (only the pro version of the software has this - and its $399). However I believe ...

Well a lot of people think it looks kinda better than "pretty good". In fact the majority of games I play, that I pay for, look about the same or worse. If you have a full set of dungeon wall textures with dot3 maps, please email them to me and I will gladly incorporate them into the game...

hey Sophia - dont dis the 512k amiga - thats where it all started  I disagree with some of Toms comments. Smooth scrolling would be a mistake IMO. Tom - think of this as a showcase for what will is possible - rather than what the actual final game will look like. DSE - its pretty awesome for o...

I hadnt tried eating the raw meat - sounds like you are way ahead of me. You could adapt the idea of cooking food - to cooking weapons. Have blacksmith furnaces later in the game that allow you to temper swords to make them more powerful (at the expense of longevity?) or to repair broken weapons per...

"You can cook food on the camp fires to make it edible. "

Yeh - I spotted that - neat idea. You could add this as a plot item into the game e.g. cooking food makes it more nutritious. Or some food items are poisonous until cooked.

Hi DSE

No I havent finished the demo yet - now I know there is an actual end, i`ll have another go.

Would you like playtesting feedback on this alpha - or is it at too early a stage to be worrying about stuff like that.

Cheers

I got it working after downloading all of the pre-requisite files. It runs very quickly and smoothly on my machine (Athlon dual core 2.2ghz, Geforce 7800GTX, 1gb ram, windows xp) even with full graphics enabled. This alpha very nicely showcases the potential of this clone and its looking awesome so ...
