Re: Opening Chests
I only found out about that on accident something like 20 years after I first played the game. Because I got startled by the phone ringing and accidentally hit the wrong direction button, and fell into a pit, then saw the "smoke" you see when a monster is killed, and a bunch of dragon stea...

Re: Burning a DOS floppy disk
I'm surprised that this is about the PC version, I didn't think it was copy protected. The Apple IIGS version most definitely does have copy protection. I was never able to copy the damn disk. When the Asimov FTP site came out half way through my high school years I was finally able to download a cr...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach
Personally I think you should do both. Do a bit of training in the Screamer Room when you pass by it, then when you are done with level 5 (or 4 if you are starting from zero. I had the hint book and it has you start on level 1 with the screamer room on level 4 and the rat room on level 9) use the sh...

Re: New Big Box
They used to sell blanks stickers with pin-feed sized for floppy disks back at the end of the '80s. I imagine in the '90s they sold them without the pin-feed since printers had largely switched to sheet feeders. Doing the floppy disk should be relatively easy if you can locate such a sheet. On the o...

Re: Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)
I am not sure if punches count for special purpose weapons, but they can be useful against rockpiles and stone golems. To a lessor extent animated armors, but those attack so quickly that you're better off using hit and run or the step-dance. Rockpiles and stone golems have high resistance to physic...

Re: Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)
1) melee weapon : the ultimate weapon you will hold in your hand throughout the game once you find it In the beginning, I find axes to be quite good. You don't get one until level 4 however unless you take Stamn. However another weapon easily overlooked in the beginning is the Saber found in The Mat...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach
I tend to prefer stronger champions because I'm a packrat and hoarder. Both in-game and in real life. Also I've noticed that champions like Tiggy, Gando, and Wu Tse tend to be rather fragile even later in the dungeons, such that they can be 1-hit-ko by a mummy, trollin, rockpile, scorpion, or magent...

Super Dungeon Master Ace RPG
So, I added this game called "Super Dungeon Master Ace RPG" from Steam to my library for free, but never got around to playing it due to lack of HD space. Due to only working temp jobs since COVID I've not been able to upgrade due to unsteady and low income. I have finally upgraded the HD....

Re: Dungeon Master unreleased MAC version
I'm sure it was not an Apple IIgs. I remember the guy inserting the disk frontaly in the MAC computer. There must be a story behind...... The disk he used was printed, and i saw the box as well. It was the purple one from mirrorsoft, and the disk was blue, with the dungeon master sticker. It was th...

Re: Best version of DM?
It's really not that bad if you're as used to using an SNES controller as I am. I don't think I would be able to do it substantially faster on a PC unless I actually went through with assigning hotkey shortcuts for specific functions or something like that..... --Jay Most hotkeys were hard coded in...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?
The thing is, the "can only steal from your off-hand" does NOT apply to all versions of Dungeon Master. I tried that tactic in the Apple IIGS version as a kid over 30 years ago and they wound up stealing from my backpack. IIRC the gigglers/kleptomaniacs (First time I saw that word was in D...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?
It's too bad you can't create the guard minions from DMII, or set some kind of traps. For some reason I really hate most enemies that can steal from you in most games. I dislike the hit & run thieves like Gigglers in Dungeon Master and the thief bots in Descent II. At least the Gigglers are easi...

Re: Dungeon Master Mac download???
Apple has reused the name "Mac Mini" several times, if it's the old PPC Mac, you can probably run an old emulator to do so. I'd recommend looking at archive.org's snapshot from the early 2000's of www.emulation.net. Then see if you can track down the programs listed for the Amiga or Atari....

If it's a small room, it sounds like a good candidate to fill with poison clouds. That way the gigglers run into the poison and take damage while running away.

Re: Dungeon Master Mac download???
I did, but it was 20-25 years ago running at the latest Mac OS 8.6. It might have been Mac OS 8.1 at the time. The problem is that modern Macs are completely different from late '90s Macs. Different architecture, different OS. You can't even run '90s Mac software on a modern Mac.They might as well c...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Yeah, impressive amount of patience. I always found grinding boring in video games, and disliked the ones where I needed to do so. I had more patience for it back when I was in junior high, but as I grew up and had less free time my patience for pointless grinding wore thin, to the point that I'd of...

In the IIGS & PC versions when you view the levels it also shows your stats, it would have been interesting to see what your final stats were as well.

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Nor could I transfer the characters from the IIGS version or even the MS-DOS version.
Still I don't think I ever really got past EE master in the original Dungeon Master. Usually I finish at UM Master although I might have one class (usually wizard or fighter) at ON Master.

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Isn't that why there were provisions to transfer characters to Chaos Strikes Back? So that you could continue on and achieve that archmaster status in a sequel without wasting days just grinding away? Although to be fair I did wind up doing just that in Final Fantasy Legend and Legend II on the Game...

Re: Anyone else stack there stuff in a specific area?
I do that with weapons, and occasionally armor. Due to weight management I'm not always sure if I'm going to want to switch back to some lighter armor. However, as mentioned, I leave a couple of chests with things I know I'll need in the future but not right now. Things like keys, coins, FUL bombs, ...

Re: Anyone else stack there stuff in a specific area?
I tend to move my stash at various parts of the game. Also I use the hint book level numbers, which starts with the Hall of Champions on level 1. On level 3, "Choose your door, choose your fate" I tend to stash items in that central area with all the doors since a couple of the puzzles req...

I found that the squishy ones stay squishy as the foes tend to just get stronger. Wuuf and Tiggy can still be 1-hit-KO by pain rats at LO Master or better everything with wizard being UM master or better.

Re: Is there a champion team cannon or head cannon of yours?
I thought Wuuf was the second coolest looking, but Wuuf is weak and easy to get 1-hit KO and not just by an errant couatl, but by mummies, trollins, pain rats, and magenta worms. I almost never use Chani, Boris, Wu Tsu, Gando, Tiggy, or Wuuf for that reason, although I knew somebody that loved Chani...

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
Speaking of which, was it just me, or were the rabbits' feet better than throwing stars as thrown weapons in terms of damage? They seemed to do more damage than almost anything else. That said, I tended to kill more skeletons with thrown falchions or wooden shields than anything else, especially on ...

Re: Is there a champion team cannon or head cannon of yours?
I always thought Gothmog was the coolest looking champion too. That said, simply because of the manual, I thought the Halk, Syria, Nabi, and Alex party was the "canon" one. Not necessarily that great a party, but not the worst one out there. I found Tiggy, Gando, Wu Tse, and Chani to be on...

I played it on an Apple IIGS with an analog AppleColor RGB monitor (the standard Apple IIGS monitor), and I honestly don't recall really seeing the scanlines like in those pictures. I could discern individual pixels, unlike a modern monitor, but I don't really recall seeing scalines like that. Maybe...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?
Something like that, I can never recall. I just drink shield potions for my front liners and count until the first attack. I always pick champions strong enough to take a hit, then run away and heal, then go back and do hit and run attacks. I might be more cautious if I used characters like Boris, T...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?
Actually, I do take it back about the stone golems. Some Champions can be 1-hit killed by them. I'm just so used to picking the literally strongest champions that also coincidentally have enough health to take a hit that I forgot about that. A party of Halk, Stamn, Daroou, and Hisssa can take a hit....
