Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Maybe if you can tell me where you are hitting, I can look for some other places. There are probably some game development specific forums where people do creature work. Games like Oblivion and Fallout3 have modders that convert or create hundreds of creature models, and perhaps one of these people ...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Crash thanks for all the posts. Unfortunately they arent worth anything unless an artist can work with those assets and prepare them for my engine. As I am sure you are aware developing models for rendering and models for games are slightly different. I have contacted an artist today to see if his ...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Here is another site full of models and artists to recruit to your cause: http://www.creative-3d.net/3DGallery.cfm?ArtistID=1426 Imagine if that guy's creations could be converted for your game! So far few if any 3DS users have posted creatures, but perhaps there is another program you can search un...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Bit of a surprise these posts .... thanks for the interest. The bottom line is I need 3d creature artists. More or less any format should be ok as I use PolyTrans with Max 8. Hi, Perhaps you can setup accounts on some of the 3DS forums and post an advertisement looking for artists, modellers, anima...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed

Specifically what kinds of personnel? I assume 3D modellers and animators - 2D concept artists can't necessarily do the 3D work. Are there current plans for which types of creatures that are needed? Does this engine have compatibility with any specific model type? How about sound and music personnel...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Hi, just to be clear - do I get out a stopwatch and time Experiment 1 then also record the CPU time in the task manager? When I display the CPU time in the task manager, it stays at 0:00:00 for CSBwin

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Running with the Fast game speed appears to help navigation only, but it is a double edged sword, since things like Fireball traps go faster too. Shouldn't it be possible for the screen to update more quickly without the game loop running faster? I wonder what it is about my system that causes this ...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

I am using a program to switch the desktop resolution to 640x480 before running CSBWin in full screen so running the game at 4x is not necessary. I'm not sure if the DirectX switch or some other issue may be a problem. I did try running at the small size in a window, and the lag seems to be the same...

Re: Cursor graphic

This is part of what I am working on. The REPLACE commands should go in the [New - Bitmaps] section of the .txt for the dungeon you are working on, or possibly MOUSE_POINTER goes in the [Graphics - Misc] section if it is a known asset, such as: [Graphics - Misc] MOUSE_POINTER.....=(BITMAP_MOUSE_ARRO...

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

At the normal speed setting, I am finding CSBWin to be quite slow on my system. I tried DMPC on DOSbox which is much more responsive. Is there any parameter or setting that could be causing this problem?

Thanks!

Those are the one thing I never liked about DM. I don't mind somewhere deep in the dungeon where there is no way out, but in the Hall of Champions? Thanks for the help!

Re: Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Hi, My characters were not injured or overburdened, and I'm not playing Conflux yet, but just keep slamming into walls when going around corners. On an ST, I can navigate very quickly without this problem, so either Windows is buffering keys differently, or there is something going on with my system...

Performance suggestions to reduce lag

Hi, I am wondering if perhaps I'm doing something wrong, as I am finding CSBWin to be somewhat laggy on my 3.8ghz P4 with WindowsXP. The main problem is when trying to move quickly, extra keys get buffered or something, and I end up hitting a lot of walls. I have tried to kill background application...

Re: Fullscreen?

Okay - I just wanted to get rid of the Windows interface, title bar, etc... and figure out the size and desktop resolution combination that would make best use of the monitor. Now I just need to find a program to switch resolutions when I launch CSBWin.

Cheers

Maybe I just don't understand the difference. There is no start menu, no window border, and no window control gadgets, so to me it looks exactly the same as if it were in full screen mode. Re: Fullscreen?

Hi, I was trying to figure out how to run CSBWin in full screen, and am confused that this thread says it cannot be done. I copied the "place" parameters from Conflux and pasted them into my CSBWin config file, and it does run in full screen, albeit up against the upper left corner. I am t...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

How about starting a new thread to discuss what can be done to jump start Entombed? Grimrock's video got over 200,000 views on Youtube in less than two weeks, so there is clear interest in old school dungeon RPGs. Surely one or two of those people are animators or artists, and perhaps it is just a m...

Re: Conflux - where do I start?

I tried that party, and quickly got squashed (perhaps as expected). When I tried an all warrior party, I was able to survive for a while, but I'm not sure anyone could cast any spells at all (even light) so I'm not sure how long that could be a useful party since there would be no way to develop any...

I'm not talking to myself... yes I am, no I'm not! Hmmm... I looked through that hall and somehow repeatedly missed Hissa - I will have to look again. I thought maybe this champion would be found later in the dungeon, but I've gone a few levels and haven't seen any more. Thanks!

Re: Conflux - where do I start?

How can I tell who the guides are? Are these the characters in the first room, those inside the first set of doors, or are they found later in the game. Sorry for the newbie questions. My impulse was to add 4 characters right away, but some of the discussion I've read suggests that the guides are fo...

Re: Conflux - where do I start?

As I'm trying to avoid reading too much that may spoil the surprise, the sense that I am getting is that I should start with one or two characters, and plan to add others later in some way. Since this is counterintuitive compared to DM, I was just wondering if this has been discussed somewhere, as I...

Okay, last question - is there a thread to give me some idea what not to do at the beginning while avoiding major spoilers? I think my web browser doesn't recognize the .7z file and tries to load it as a web page, but right-clicking and "Save link as..." saves the file correctly. I am sooo looking forward to this!
