Another old School RPG

Has anyone tried Might & Magic X Legacy? It is a modern albeit grid based game that I failed to noticed when it was released. It's turn based, but otherwise looks good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2v6wIQel2E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjIOrnPgMHo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSMnOJtYMS...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Is anyone going to start a dungeon? I noticed a couple of people in Steam Workshop trying to remake DM and EOB. I can't wait for some new content.

Re: Legend of Grimrock

The only area where I got stuck for a day, was near Holy Scriptures, because I clicked on the tapestries, but didn't try to attack them, so nothing happened. Fortunately I made it through the entire game without consulting hints or forums, but who knows how I will do with some of the secrets. I am q...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Once I finish my secret hunting, while I wait for some more Grimrock, I will have to try some of the titles I have yet to play, principally, some of the Amiga specific or "enhanced" versions such as "Black Crypt", "Knightmare", and "Liberation: Captive II". Ev...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Basically, whenever it was an unexpected or challenging battle, I would revert to the 100s or 1000s of hours of left clicking experience I have had in all of the other games, and would disarm my characters in LoG, or switch weapons between each pair without actually attacking. This led to a number o...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

There are plenty of secrets, and I sort of wish that I had kept track of how many secrets I had solved on each level before moving on, since now I have to go back and blindly search for them. There is one gigantic secret that I am glad I figured out (the vault level) , since it led to a lot of fun t...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I don't know the intricacies of each DM system, or what would be required to duplicate the LoG puzzles, but it is my understanding that DSB has advanced scripting features, and that both DSB and LoG use Lua. This together with Gambit's comment made me think DSB would be the most likely candidate.

Re: Legend of Grimrock

If I were to attempt such a thing, it would probably take me years, since I have yet to even finish my RTC graphics project, and have never designed a dungeon of any kind. I've just seen a lot of discussion about trying to make LoG more like DM, and it occurred to me that someone here must be thinki...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

There is one puzzle in there that had me about 30 seconds from getting out a joystick and mapping it to the movement keys - a bit much. Another where I think I was clicking too early, and since it was not possible to hit a switch until the forward movement animation was complete, I had to try numero...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I think that what confused me about that puzzle was that you have to be completely off of any pit when it starts to close, or you fall in. I was a millisecond too late, and kept falling down. Once I figured this out, and a safe place to step, I was able to continue to the next challenge . I'm still ...

Re: [RTC] Dungeon Master HD

I'm hoping someone can create 3D models for all of the DM and CSB creatures for use in LoG, but there are still a number of dungeons here that I haven't played, so I'll be happy to do so in DM HD.

Re: [RTC] Dungeon Master HD

That was intentional. The blue Trolin creatures were specifically designed that way to make them look wet and gelatinous (using a plastic wrap filter), as this is what I thought the original ones were designed to look like. Most of the creature graphics came from other sources which were presumably ...

Re: Releasing RTC source code / future of RTC.

Is there any way to translate the RTC dungeon file format for use with others, or would this require source code?

I am personally disappointed that RTC is no longer in development and cannot be shared, but feel that the negative comments towards the author will only serve to alienate.

Other AI problems include creatures being unable to decide which direction to go when they are on the tile diagonally opposite you I thought they were doing that to try and fake me! Re: Legend of Grimrock

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not a patient person, and I just can't stand grinding. Maybe it was all those 80s RPGs where you HAD to grind for gold or XP to get anywhere that put me off of it, I dunno ;). This is probably it. When I started out with games like Ultima III, I had to stay close to a to...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

I'm not sure why grinding is seen as a good way to adjust the difficulty? I'm not saying it was a good way, but that it was what I resorted to the first time that I played DM and chose my party quite poorly. Perhaps one way to deal with this could be to have areas that respawn a certain number of m...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Crash - I don't want to spoil the game, but it's not a completely fullproof tactic, your door tactis :) Actually, it's not normally, because you need to allow the door to open fully to attack, or else it hits the door. And critters - especially on hard - can capitalise on that too. I've hit myself ...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Fantastic! I love this idea and I'm going to blatantly steal it for my DSB adventure. If you don't mind ;-) By all means! I think that surprises are good, particularly when we become so accustomed to things working a certain way, and some change to these mechanisms adds excitement. Maybe only some ...
