Re: Legend of Grimrock
I'm currently half-way into level 7, playing without maps. The game so far has been relaxing - there are places which I know to hold secrets but I still haven't tried to explore them all because I'll soon be facing some severe food shortage :) Regarding tooltips: there are problems with tooltips in ...

Don't forget, for more Grimrock specific chat, you should join on their forum, they now have a *lot* of activity over there, understandably :-) http://grimrock.net/forum/ I would, but it's already filled up with the "viable" word as in "the only viable rogue is a throwing weapon mino...

Re: Legend of Grimrock
Indeed the game is great so far. I'm at level 5 and can already spot a direct link to Dungeon Master in layout and progression. It has a bit more puzzles but nothing too complex so far, really. I have picked the old school mode w/ normal difficulty, and haven't felt the need to draw a single tile ye...

Re: Legend of Grimrock
In my opinion, all these "annoyances" are nothing but artificial difficulty. They should be present in the gold version of the game as optional "realism" flags, that toggles food, water, non-trivial fake walls, that hides a lot more pits, that doesn't refund mana on wrong rune cl...

oh and by the way, there are people who are currently scratching their head even harder than us. They are actually hoping so much that they made a mistake that they published it and pray that someone, somewhere, something can invalidate their result. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-150...

Re: DMJava V2.2 by Solito
Yeah I might be on the fast clicking range of the spectrum, but one thing is for sure the cooldowns do not work properly and it's not my mouse that's too fast. I picked Gando if you want to try to reproduce, but I still get the same effect with any character. Instead of hearing "yeaaaah, yeaaaa...

FairyMaze - DM-inspired 3D maze
Hello there, I've been discussing it on these boards at the start of summer, well, it seems I managed to get a few things working with my project. The project's code name overall is Fairy Worlds, and its aim is of course to eventually be a full featured RPG like Dungeon Master. Right now the first v...

Re: DMJava V2.2 by Solito
I can confirm it works fine now.
Two things:
1st, great job on getting your head around the insanity of the original DMjava source code.
2nd, you really should add a cooldown time on war cry, I got to craftsman priest in like 2 minutes on the first level

Re: Will we ever see DM clone with online coop?
I remember how it felt like playing coop multiplayer in the original DM. One would pick the keyboard, the other would pick the mouse. It was enough fun for both. The key to cooperative gameplay is often asymetrics! An interesting way to go multiplayer coop would be to have a very dynamic dungeon, on...

Re: The List: Best RPG
Sometimes I really wish there was a generic port of oldies using the world of warcraft UI. And I really mean "User Interface", as in action bars, health pools that you can drag around to monitor entire armies or parties, as many meters as the player wants, keyboard shortcuts that you can c...

Re: The List: Best RPG
The whole Might and Magic : 2 : same crap as 1 Hmmmmm. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I enjoyed it even if it was crap. I usually don't argue about things I don't like :) but I hated that beeping sound. Other games of its time such as The Bard's Tale or Le Maitre des Ames were much...

Re: The List: Best RPG
I like the old Phantasie games I played on my Atari ST. These are even older SSI games than the gold box games. The first one is my favorite. The third one was pretty good too, but number 2 was definitely the weakest. I like the wide variety it had, from races you could choose from (trolls, minotau...

Re: The List: Best RPG
Might and magic sounds good, but one of you says 3-5 and another says 7. But 2 people naming this game is nearly a quarem. The whole Might and Magic series is not entirely good: 1 : crap. 2 : same crap as 1 3 : revolutionary for its time. Fairly decent. 4 & 5 : epic, truly epic. Might & Mag...

Re: The List: Best RPG
"Best" is indeed subjective. I'll sort them by the amount of fun I've had with them. You can't go more subjective than that ;) 1. Chaos Strikes Back 2. old school World of Warcraft 3. Might and Magic VII 4. Baldur's Gate & Throne of Bhaal 5. Diablo 2 LOD As for the objective "best...

Re: Upgrading the DM rendering engine - now with source code
Thanks Bit, it's super easy to get lost on technical stuff when you work on an indie project so don't beat on yourself, Game Design input & user feedback are extremely valuable! You're contributing to crucial elements of this little project (which I had put on hold for roughly a month :P). Codin...

Re: Upgrading the DM rendering engine - now with source code
Funny you point that out. There's actually a story about the viewing height and the stairs. How it all ended up playing like this (height of the point of view, speed, whatever) was all because of Stairs. You're totally right about stairs. The thing is, stairs are evil. I spent a dozen hours trying t...

Re: Upgrading the DM rendering engine
Looks pretty good! How did you do the levels? I made "tiles" for walls, floors, stairs and doors as "prefabs" in unity - I used a cut & paste of the original DM wall graphic as a texture. Then I parsed the dungeon.dat binary file using the encyclopedia's dungeon file definit...

Re: Dungeon Master- 3D Remake
I'm still a beginner, but Unity is great. I don't know about you but I'd like to share tips if you agree. I have zero level design experience, I'm more of a procedural freak (I like to generate the scene content at runtime). I notice you're using a terrain for the floor, does that mean you will buil...

Upgrading the DM rendering engine - now with source code
I'm a big fan of the original game, and I'd like to enhance it visually. My plan is to use Unity3d (http://www.unity3d.com) strictly as a rendering engine. Game mechanics won't change - Theron will be free to change the camera angle however he sees fit, but otherwise the environment will still be se...

Re: Dungeon Master- 3D Remake
For what it's worth, this demo is a great start. Do you generate the level, or did you build the whole scene through the unity editor?

Re: [sck] release 1.3 is out and handles animations
Hello everyone, hi Greatstone and thanks for all the work you guys have put into keeping this game very alive :) I'd like to get something straight - I've downloaded a couple CSBWin packages for both DM and CSB, and while data extraction is pretty straightforward with SCK & DM, I can't seem to b...
