Re: Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)

Sorry for the late reply (just had the longest plane journey without stepping out of the airport on any leg of the trip). It looks like the Diamond Edge and Hardcleave are the two best options if you want to attack without suffering additional damage in the process due to negative defense modifiers....

Re: Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)

Chop is the attack you want to use. It is reasonably fast, does decent damage, and does not have a negative defensive modifier associated with it like Stab, Thrust, and Berzerk do. Which makes the Diamond Edge and Hardcleave stand out as two very good weapons to use the 'chop' attack with. What's y...

Re: Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)

Many thanks Paul Stevens, jayrshaw, Ian Clark & Ameena (all in posting order)! It is heartwarming to know that decades after the initial release of DM we still have a group of truly legendary fans that treasure this game and care about it regularly. Wow. Double-wow when you consider - at least i...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

Rat drumsticks are way better food, as well (and the rats themselves will give better exp for fighting them, as they are deeper in the dungeon which means there is a higher exp multiplier). ... Note that if you're not aware, there is one too few skelly keys to open the entire stairwell. I tend to s...

Ultimate weapon & armour combo (including special weapons)

The reason I'm starting this topic is because way too many times I have ended up going through the game (and all its levels) collecting absolutely EVERYTHING even slightly interesting when it comes to weapons & armour. I would always think to myself, "Don't leave it, keep it - you might use...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

Merci Christophe, great link! As mentioned above it's interesting that the level maps from the end sequence aren't 100% representative of the actual levels, but if someone was able to film them then this would have been a great resource when playing the game all over again. :) I think this is the be...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

I must say that throughout the many times that I've done a full run of the game, I don't think I have ever chosen a different (main) character than Zed. Maybe once I dropped in Layla or Syra for company, but overall I prefer to just run a one-man team. Even when I tell myself that next time I will d...

Posting here instead of starting a new thread:

What is currently the best way to play DM on the newest Macs running Apple silicon? Are people still trying to resuscitate some version of DosBox or have you found an easier way to get DM to run on macOS 14?

Re: Best version of DM?

I've only ever played the SNES version of Dungeon Master, myself, because I've always had a strong preference for [when possible] playing games using a video game controller from a couch on a large-screen TV to playing them using a keyboard/mouse on a PC while sitting at my desk.... Never played th...

Re: Dungeon Master Mac download???

Many thanks for the info. I have an old Mac Mini that should still run the DOS version of DM using Boxer, but it still surprises me that it's so hard to get an up-to-date emulator for the newest Macs to run what is essentially really old software (so hardware requirements are not an issue).

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

Yeah, that FTL game is a knock-off, at least from a design/marketing perspective to make it look like it's got something to do with the real FTL and/or Sundog. :) I love Elite (one of the greatest games ever) and was even a Kickstarter backer of Elite: Dangerous (should be a planet and space station...

Just curious but has anyone successfully been able to run/play DM on a MAC using an Amiga emulator?

Or is it too much hassle and the best way is to stick to DOSBox or Boxer?

1. 3.6 Amiga or 3.4 DM PC

Are they exactly the same in terms of graphics or is either of them better?

I take it it's easier to emulate the latter as it runs on DOS?

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?

My least favourite has to be level 7. Wide-open! Fireballs flying everywhere! Surprising pits! Also it has two creatures that I dislike: ghosts and especially gigglers. My thoughts exactly. The open space and the mayhem of it coupled with the ghosts and gigglers gets on my nerves. Definitely my lea...

Re: New & Confused!

For those using a Mac, the PC version running on Boxer (a sweet DOSBox package) is the best choice. Of course you can drink straight from the fountain and knock on walls, so no worries there. :) And it runs perfectly.

Re: Leveling and stats

Could be, though I did my last experiment with the 20 attempts at a save point that was just one spell away from a level-up, so I repeated the same procedure each time. I also see a certain correlation between certain numbers. So when I got AM up by 2 then I saw that health went up by a certain numb...

Re: Leveling and stats

Are you sure about that? Because it looked like it was pretty much a straight random distribution. I have not looked into the random number generator, and I guess it is possible it doesn't have an even distribution, but that wasn't my experience. I'm currently testing this out on getting the wizard...

Re: Leveling and stats

Also, I think it's worth pointing out that all numbers within a certain range do not have the same probability. So when say Anti-Magic can rise by 0-3 points, the probability of seeing +2 is NOT the same as the chances of getting +3.

Is everything here purely random? So getting the max in one level-up doesn't diminish the chances of maxing out the same stat in the subsequent level advancement?

Re: New Four-Class Archmaster

Yes, you're right, there is a random element but, as far as I've seen, you're gonna reach 999 in both health and stamina approximately when you reach PAL/MON master in every class (at least in amiga 3.6 version) so I guess you needn't bother about loading back to max out those two stats ;-) By the ...

Oh well. Maxed is maxed, at least in DM. MasterWuuf, I see that you have health, stamina and strength maxed out. :) What calculations/estimates/expectations did you have when advancing a level? Thanks. Is there is min/max amount that you can get, or is it always the same but with the distribution being different?

Is there some sort of list on how much you should go for at each level to make the most of each advancement?
