Re: RTC Dungeon Definition File
Legend of Grimrock was very cool indeed. (Needed DM style spells and skills however imho...) Anyone tried Might and Magic X, just out of interest? Well, back to the original topic of the post, if GG ever came back and did one final, heroic, tweak to the source code, I'd like it to be "split out...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original
For me DM2 was a really shoddy experience compared to the genius of the original. I still played through to the end on the A500 back in the day, but man it was a real let down after so much anticipation.
Maybe I like one of the pieces of music.

RTC Dungeon Definition File
I know George Gilbert has apparently stopped developing RTC a long time ago, but, wouldn't it be good if the dungeon definition file system it uses was actually split up into smaller files? I'd find this incredibly useful. For example, one file for the dungeon, another file for new wallsets, for new...

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Glad you liked it. I wasn't a piano fan at all, until I first heard this guy about 10 years ago, through this particular tune as it happens. To me it was unique, I had never heard anything quite like it. By now he has a number of albums, I think his music is really amazing, minimal in a sense, but a...

Re: RTC monster AI and NPC
i don't know what Ocarina of Time is... skoal Ocarina of Time is the first Legend of Zelda game to be released in 3D, on the Nintendo 64. It is arguably the best video game ever produced (or at least one of...! DM is clearly No.1...!). There is a cool sequence where your character, Link, is in the ...

Re: RTC monster AI and NPC
Ok, have now given Chaos's RTC AI-NPC a playthrough, and as requested list below a mini 'review'. This is extremely impressive work. I have no idea how it works at the technical level, so I will describe it purely from the experiential point of view of the player. Playing it immediately throws up ma...

Re: Transparency in graphics
what are you working on now, what areas have you been plugging at? Generally a full graphics replacement. So, all new wallsets, new doors (portcullis, metal, wood, magic/energy, etc), door frames, wall objects/decorations (some interactive, some as pure decos), floor objects, objects (weapons / arm...

Re: Transparency in graphics
Yeah you're right CS. I have various templates set up in PShop that let me quickly develop the items, decorations and variations on the wallsets quite quickly, and to allow decorations to work on multiple wallsets. You kind of get into the flow once you know what the boundaries are, and you know tha...

Re: Puzzle games, who likes them?
I seem to love spatial puzzle games. I really loved Portal, and I was absolutely knocked out by The Room on iOS. The Room is a stunning puzzle game, amazing concept, really well executed. It's not a 'perpetual' puzzle game like Tetris is, for example, but wow... awesome.

Re: Transparency in graphics
Ah yes, very true...! Maybe this technique can only be used for static decorations only. I think I may have been concentrating on graphics too much, and not enough on the mechanics. Essentially am building up my assets library, as it were, not actually building the dungeon yet. Partly through indeci...

Re: Transparency in graphics
Hey that sounds like a very interesting way of doing it. So you essentially set up the viewport as an image in Pshop or gimp, set the guides to match the various floor, ceiling and wall tiles, and then paint/create the view you want to see? Do you use a screengrab from DM as a template, or the backg...

Transparency in graphics
Short question: If I have more bitmaps loaded with lots of transparency, does this affect the efficiency and/or speed of the RTC engine, does anyone know? Reason for asking: When creating new wall objects, for example, having created a few wall objects, I'm finding it far more efficient to use the s...

Off topic, but hope to give your demo another go this weekend to check it out some more. How far are you along since the version on the link on the first post of that thread? Did I read somewhere you're working with Chaos Shaman on some fandango artificial intelligence for it?
