Playing Legend of Grimrock in real 3-D
Hello, my old friends. I haven't posted in years. Last year I invested in a VR headset, the Occulus Rift S to be specific, and not too long after I was curious to find out if I could watch 3-D movies (there basically aren't any except porn) or play 3-D games in actual 3-D. Turns out there are a smal...

Re: Looking for something like Severance Blade of Darkness
Personally, I did not like Severance; perhaps it was the controls or the insane difficulty. I liked the concept behind the game far more than the game itself. As for what you're looking for… it's first-person, but I think Dark Messiah is as close as it gets. The fights can be pretty intense, and non...

I think the Shadowgate (NES) theme would work great for DM as well. It has just the right amount of creepy tension.

Re: Memorable Moments...
I think it's possible also with Sonya and her sword? Anyone with "Chop" can hack through a door. There are probably other commands that do it, too. One wiser than I could inform you. It never occurred to me until reading (most of) these posts, but, barring the SNES version (which is how I...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original
FTL tried to deliver a product appealing to different audiences and failed in my opinion. You're wrong about that. They did successfully create a game that catered to different audiences, evidenced by the fact that many fans of the original didn't like it. It just wasn't the audience they were goin...

Re: Meteor Blade
Ah, that explains it. I do remember seeing all the ingredients there on at least one, possibly several occasions. I thought the game was being generous; it never occurred to me that this was a side-effect. At any rate, thanks for verifying that the ingredients are recoverable. People probably though...

Will someone tell me what is up with all the ridiculously loud death robots and jet-powered craft that no one except the mute little girl hears until they're literally crashing through the walls? Next director, please.

Regarding the OP: there was a deathmatch level like this in Duke Nukem 3D called Lunatic Fringe. It was basically a double-layered outer ring with a hollow center section that led to different parts of the ring.

Re: Kingdom of Loathing
I thought there used to be a restriction. Anyway I'm lv4 now, so. . . . I like re-playing games after a couple years because I remember just enough that I don't totally suck at it — which is very important in a game like this — but I've forgotten enough that it feels fresh, and I laugh at all the li...

I JUST got the Toot Oriole joke. Yeah, I had to make a new dude, but I did get my old name! And I chose to resurrect the pastamancer because cooking food that gives you 30 adventures is just . . . it's just awesome. I had seriously considered a seal clubber, but hey. I can make another. And another....

Hey. Did you get your UAC problem sorted out? Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control Settings. This feature exists primarily so you know when malevolent software is trying to screw with your system; it gives you a chance to stop it. (Vista has basically the same thing.) If you...

...where as unreal would not. Sure you can. A hundred US dollars for a royalty-bearing license is what you'd pay to develop XBOX 360 games and sell them in the XBOX Live Community, but without arbitrary restrictions on size (max 150 MB), price (800 MS points), currency (MS points only), outlet (XBO...

World War II and the entire Manhattan Project Combat actions in Europe ended shortly after the German Army surrendered in May 1945, but the peace treaty with Germany wasn't finalized until 1990 — over 45 years later. (The peace treaty with Japan was signed in 1951.) So, if you want to get really te...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed
One thing, I have noticed that occasionally when I load PNG files they are darker than the original. Not sure why and I have never bothered to find out. The alpha is pre-multiplied. If you're rendering against a dark background, this means the edges will be darker. You don't get this problem using ...

Re: New DirectX9 DM clone - entombed
Unit size isn't going to matter at all if they're both using generic units. Both programs will export the same numbers. The problem is with the coordinate system: Maya uses a Y-up system; max uses a Z-up system. You'll need to rotate the model about the X-axis and possibly mirror it (not sure of the...

The demo is fantastically dark for me, such that I lost interest almost immediately. I could see only one tile in front of me, and the zombies were practically invisible. Also, the movement is too slow for my reflexes. Otherwise, it ran fine for the short time I played it. Roquen has the idea: you n...

Spore Impressions (mild spoiler, but not really)
Disappointing. Extremely disappointing. I get the feeling they put so much work into the creators that they didn't have time left to make a compelling game out of it. Add to that the fact that the demos clearly demonstrate features you can't actually do in the final release (like dragging corpses), ...

Lua is a scripting language and as such requires a basic programming mindset, but it doesn't even begin to touch on the level of problem solving real programming entails. And yet, my interest in learning Lua is vague at best. About the time I convince myself it would be a good idea, I find something...

The next DM will be made by fans. As such, it won't be glamorous in a popular sense, but it could stand up to its predecessors and wow the niche. The tools to build it will likely be free or home-brewed, and the total number of man-hours will be counted in spare time, comprised primarily of weekends...

The developers decided not to release an MDK becauise they're arrogant and don't want anyone messing with their game. I guess they can kiss longevity and future sales goodbye. Still, I have played through the entire game like four times. I just wish so much I could use more than the wrench, consider...
