Re: Dungeon Master II VGM Cover

Thanks! I wanted to just have our cat and dog as extras, but I kept looking at one extra portrait and had to add a 3rd extra, so ancient me worked to fill it in. I am amazed how different I look in various images in the past. Anyways, I love this piece, so it'll be neat to listen to yours if you do ...

Dungeon Master II VGM Cover

Hiya, everybody. It took me years to record the various pieces for this video, and far too long to put it together, but I have finally completed my Dungeon Master II VGM cover for Endless Rain! I tried to experiment a bit with this music video, I think it came out alright considering I literally can...

Re: Enjoying the Play store version but...

KEGS is how I emulated Dungeon Master on the Apple IIGS when I played that version, and aside from the interlacing, seemed to work just fine. Just be certain to have the higher processor speed when playing the game (the Apple IIGS had a speed toggle).

Re: Let's Kickstart an Open Source DM Engine

As far as a game engine, I was working on a puzzle/map generator for a project I called Web Dungeons, but never finished, in HTML/CSS/JS. The graphics engine works separate from the generator. It was fairly well along, though I am trash at making graphics. This is set in "long corridor" mo...

Re: What web browser do you use?

Windows 7 and occasionally Linux Mint Firefox (currently 66) mostly, modified a bit with things like NoScript, cookie editors, etc. since web-dev is my job. It runs nicely @2x on my 4K primary screen. Chrome when I need to use sites with way too many external scripts or that don't like running prope...

Re: Characters You Have Never Used

I've never played with Daroou, Elija, Hawk, Linflas, Mophus, Nabi, Syra or Wu Tse... The only solo runs I've done were with Wuuf (MS-DOS version) and with Tiggy as a ghost (Boris was a dead weight who had to fight Chaos at the end though). Since I start using Strength and Wisdom potions around level...

Re: Question regarding preference

How about a combination of systems? In DM, right clicking on the attack box does not attack (I know it opens inventory, but ignore that for a moment). How about if you left click it does the last action you used on that item (if you last used Melee, left click does Melee) or the top choice if you ha...

Re: CSB palette different from DM?

You mention DM version 3.2 in the video, surely you mean version 3.6 instead ;) Awww shoot, yeah, you're right. I played v2.0, 2.1, 2.2 (only 2.0 worked, due to being cracked properly) and 3.6 (Psygnosis version) and wrote the wrong version number down in my script notes before writing the script f...

Re: CSB palette different from DM?

I actually discussed the alternate draw method for the walls in my highlight video about Dungeon Master. Here's the relevant part when talking about the Amiga version:

Oddly enough, for me, the updated walls seem a bit brighter because you can see further.

Maybe whatever you were watching didn't have the light level quite all the way up?

Re: Highlight Video for Dungeon Master

Man, Christophe, I'm sorry! I freakin' triple checked on your last name (I kept trying to make you into a Fonatel for whatever reason) and totally messed up on the first name! My last name's Ormston, which gets mangled all the time, so I try not to. Blarg. At least that's the credits sequence and I ...

Re: Highlight Video for Dungeon Master

Well, if Paul and Christophe don't mind the mistake. *shrugs* In the late 80s and 90s, there was a phrase known as WTF, which both meant what you think it means and "Weird Thing from France". I think it holds quite true for a lot of their games. I also played Drakkhen on ST which was a pre...

Re: Highlight Video for Dungeon Master

Thank you for sitting through the whole thing, Gambit! And yeah, good lord that took a lot of work. Just putting the video together took ~40-60h. Put my life on hold for a week to launch it in time for Dec 15th. The intro, sections, subsection titles and outro are based on the computer the game is o...

Highlight Video for Dungeon Master

Hiya! Over the weekend, on the 31st anniversary of the release of Dungeon Master, I put out a video on Dungeon Master! I do detailed videos talking about old games, and was glad to be able to talk about one of my favorites. I included a look at various bugs, all of the versions of the game, the sequ...

Re: Ghost Run [Playing with a Bug]

The first chop down door is right next to the axe and the message, "Don't let a closed door stop you". The second one is right after you kill the mummy "prisoner" at the end, you have to chop down the door to get to the stairs going down (you can of course chop it down before kil...

Re: Hint Oracle: penalty for use?

You could give people a few options as well. For example, you could allow people to choose to play with the hint system, or to have to pay a fee to use it (maybe a Gor coin like from CSB in an Iron Man style play through), or to not be able to use it at all. Someone that wants a more hard core exper...

Ghost Run [Playing with a Bug] - Won!

Well, I made an ST save disk that removed the two "chop down" doors on level 4 (3, magenta worm level) and was able to complete the game. It was rather difficult in parts and required a lot of reloading, because you cannot deal with immaterial enemies at all, you can only run away from the...

Ghost Run [Playing with a Bug]

Has anybody ever played through the game as a ghost, with a tiny bit of "cheating"? I don't know which versions of the game support it, but I tested on the Atari ST versions (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) as well as MS-DOS and they all support it in-game. It does NOT work in CSB Win. I played around w...
