Re: Ray Tracing

I'll try the manta version, that's sooo cool. Will its trace look anything like the magic footsteps? And what do I get if I trace the ray down? Do I need to fluxcage it? Questions over questions...

Re: Dungeon Master Construction Kit (working title)

Very smooth. I agree about the map though. It's probably a lot harder to make but a good compromise would be a map like in Etrian Odyssey, showing only the parts you already visited. That way you still have to explore but it takes care of drawing a map on paper as most people used to newer games fin...

Re: Dungeon master space !

Depending on how big your dungeon/ship will be and how many backtracking is involved, that might be a good idea anyway, as most modern players expect a feature like that. Personally I'd rather go for something like "teleport to certain stations" that have to be found and activated before y...

Re: Gg never came back, did he?

Also, if I understand it correctly, it's not even about your own work not functioning anymore, but a custom dungeon built on GG's engine. So why not rant against whoever made that one too (RTC's item limit has been known for a while because Adamski needed to rework and shrink most of his first mega ...

Re: Gg never came back, did he?

Yes,it is sad, but the final verdict on that matter was spoken a long time ago. Also, that argument works both ways: there's a lot of custom dungeons that never got updated even to that final version of RTC. Also, to be quite frank, if you want to create a dungeon that lasts "forever" it's...

I've rarely ever used the Boxes, but from what I remember you put them in main hand and use them like a (one-use only) weapon and they freeze whatever creature's in front of you for a short-ish time.

I think the floor looks cool, but true: it's not an old dirty, broken dungeon floor but looks more like polished marble. Still like it a lot though

Yeah I saw that, but I didn't really read gaming magazines (and those few I did were way later). Never seen anything remotely close to that layout though lol (except maybe BRAVO, but that's not about gaming ;) )

Didn't watch the video yet, but I suppose it's what always happens when a niche thing hits the mass market. Or to quote my lady (talking about music - as consumer not producer): she "refuse[s] to bend to the dictatorship of the masses' bad taste"

The looks are awesome and I personally don't think the realism hurts, but then again to me those games all feel like "just another DM" (which is not a bad thing  Also I never played Grimrock II). BUT it's a bit weird with graphics like that to have grid-based movement, though I would...

Well the light went down from bright to barely visible, so I considered that part of the demo. After all, once you get past the Champions in the original you end up in pitch black when you run out of torches and haven't mastered light spells yet

Hate most thief mechanics too... In Skullkeep you have to find their lairs because they will drop the stuff they stole from you somewhere. And in Ark there's some creatures too. Ichthyornis will strike at you repeatedly. Any food will be instantly devoured and getting back other items is a bit of lu...

The big grey dudes are Stone Golems, you had been warned about those somewhere in the thread :D And yeah, them being stone and huge makes them hard to wear down. Concerning the rats: I remember my first time ever into DM, together with a friend. We had a full party of four and we had trained them a bit (no grinding, but no rushing through either). The rats still wiped us out first time we saw them and we had to be quite careful around them later too - they j...

Solo Tiggy :o As for the skeleton keys: the only thing they do is open up a hidden stairway that acts as a shortcut to go back to higher levels (well, as soon as you open at least a second skeleton "door"). So if you want your first run to be mostly spoiler free, don't look at those maps -...

Welcome to the forum and have fun with this classic I don't think there's any way to do gamebreaking mistakes with that one. Compass is a huge help because there's invisible things that turn you around but even those can be done without. You'll just have a harder time spotting them happen. Personall...

Re: Help with buying a new laptop

That sounds about right. :D I guess everyone has to decide what they really need, what they want on top of that and what is optional and then decide by that which system suits them best. If Windows gets even more on my nerves, I myself will probably migrate to Linux but I'm not there yet.

With your expertise I suppose you already looked into Linux too. Depends on what you want and need of course, but modern Linux systems have become quite user friendly and their RAM usage is still way below Windows systems. I know that Blender specifically can almost double your render speed with hal...
