Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
ChristopheF - It's great to hear that you're working on this (even if it ends up taking a long time) - I have been able to figure some things out about the SNES version of Dungeon Master through experimentation and based on the information you have documented on more standard versions of the game, b...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Furthermore, I also just noted that the Dungeon Master encyclopedia states you will only get half the hard-coded experience amount if the monster resists the fear effect of Calm (which I believe the Screamer monster always will based on the fact that its Bravery level is the maximum possible value o...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Unless the recovery time is significantly faster for Calm, I would stick with War Cry. Last year, I calculated that I was earning roughly 40 experience points of Fighter experience per War Cry repetition (and therefore slightly less than this amount of Healer experience per repetition due to the fac...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Glad to hear it is working for you, Diecast! My memory is a bit fuzzy, but if I recall correctly, I think the amount of time it took for me to gain a Ninja level for a character using the Screamer flanking technique was roughly comparable to the amount of time it took me to gain the same Fighter lev...

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
Good points - guess I wasn't really thinking outside the box on possible ways to get the Firestaff onto the main part of Floor 12. I guess I didn't think very much about it since I didn't have much of a problem with it dropping down to Floor 13 once I was able to verify where it had landed and retri...

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
Thanks for the information of precisely what triggers the "point of no return" in the SNES version of Dungeon Master, ChristopheF! In the SNES version of the game, you immediately fall down into Floor 13 through a hidden pit which opens up if you try entering the main part of Floor 12 whil...

Journeyman - Great to see you've started working on your RP diary of Tiggy's adventures in the dungeon again! I was thinking Tiggy might balk at the idea of going into the "Creature Cavern" door, but to my surprise, you just had her charge right in! Clodius_one - The "Choose Your Door...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
Yeah - looks like you're doing pretty well. You can train Ninja levels in the Screamer room without having to generate new Screamers if you let the Screamers flank you from the side and stab at a wall or the air with a dagger using a character who isn't on the same side the Screamers are facing you ...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
I didn't really consider that the lower case alphabetical prefixes for Master skill levels in the SNES version of Dungeon Master might be a bug, but I hadn't thought about it much until now - up until now, I had just assumed the developers decided to code the SNES version of the game that way becaus...

Re: Road to full team of Archmasters (SNES)
It's cool to see someone playing the same version of Dungeon Master that I did last year! I think the furthest I was willing to go with training my characters was "b Master" Fighter and Ninja and "d Master" Healer and Wizard, so you've already gotten past me in terms of your Figh...

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
As far as I was able to tell, the "point of no return" is different (i.e., earlier) in the SNES version of the game than it is in other versions of the game. My notes from my playthrough last year are in the following thread (the last post is the relevant one for this particular topic): ht...

The maps on the dmweb.free.fr web site are really excellent in general. Here is a link to the main page where you can navigate to the map for any floor in the dungeon:

Re: Is there a champion team cannon or head cannon of yours?
Yeah - I kind of think of the four characters whose story is described in the manual as the actual "canon" characters, although the manual implies that the other characters in the Hall of Champions also had similar experiences of their own in the dungeon prior to being killed/trapped by Ch...

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
I don't think I specifically tried throwing rabbits' feet in particular at enemies very often, but I do recall that random thrown objects (even seemingly innocuous ones like cloth robes) could be pretty deadly in this game....

Re: Location of all 4 Rabbit’s Foot?
Right - based on the information at the link Paul Stevens provided, it appears that you can only actually get three of the rabbits' feet unless you recruit Boris as one of your champions. I played through the SNES version of this game last year and generally made an attempt to gather most of the ite...

Re: DMNet : a Dungeon Master multiplayer remake
I've never played Materia Magica, but I used to play a text-based online RPG called DragonRealms throughout the mid-late 1990s and early 2000s when I was in high school and college. I just checked online and see that it still exists. You could talk to other people in the same room with you in the ga...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?
My favorite one is still the 2nd Floor (i.e., Choose Your Door, Choose Your Fate). There's something about that part of the game that is fun for me since you can still take out a lot of the enemies using thrown objects but you occasionally have to face creatures like the Rockpiles with a melee weapo...

Yeah - I don't know much about coding, but I would guess that dealing with the potential bugs that crop up could be a royal pain. Re: Definitive spelling?
I had always assumed "PAL" and "DANE" were the correct spellings, but I could be wrong. I know that Wisdom potions are called DANE potions in the SNES version of the game I had been playing. I guess I had just assumed the fifth rune is called PAL instead of PA because that's the ...

Honestly, I would describe this forum as quite active for a game of this vintage. I have been playing lots of my old SNES games this year and reading through the GameFAQs forums for the games I've played. Some of the more obscure games only have one or two posters, and the least active ones are esse...

Re: Characters You Have Never Used
Thanks for the tip, Saumun - I definitely didn't know about that. Unfortunately, I'm thinking that luring the materializers you encounter out in the open so that they are up against a wall is sometimes just as difficult as simply running up to them and Disrupting them to death with a Vorpal Blade. T...

Re: Characters You Have Never Used
I was generally leaning toward using Des Ew (i.e., Harm Nonmaterial Beings) on undead creatures during my recent playthrough since Des Ew is ranged and my characters had a lot of excess mana. However, I discovered that using Disrupt with the Vorpal Blades can actually be more effective against the M...
