Re: First solo win

I went ahead and voted - I actually voted for Zed instead of Hissa since I thought Zed would be the least similar to the two characters you just completed the game with....

Re: First solo win

Congratulations on the successful solo run, RogerS! It's interesting that you decided to do the run using Halk - the idea of a burly barbarian wandering around the dungeon on his own is pretty funny to me for some reason...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

Yeah - being used to having characters with really high Maximum Mana levels leaves me a bit unsure of how difficult it is to maintain various levels of buffs with lower Maximum Mana levels. Regardless, if you actually plan to go toe-to-toe with any dangerous enemies, it may still be a good idea to u...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

I like Hissa a lot, too [you can probably tell based on the avatar I've been using here on the Dungeon Master forums]. I used to play a humanoid lizard / snake character in a text-based online RPG I played throughout my later high school and college years, so I always thought it was cool that they i...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

I should also mention that there is little benefit to buffing your Wisdom to very high levels because you will experience maximum mana recovery [given your current Maximum Mana level] once your Wisdom + Wizard Level + Healer Level exceeds a value of 112.....

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

During my last playthrough, I was generally keeping my four characters' Wisdom, Strength, Dexterity, and Vitality buffed in the range of ~140 to ~155 throughout the playthrough after I finished training them in the Screamer Room on the Worm floor of the dungeon. However, my characters had attained r...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

At this point (primarily due to the effectiveness of buffs in this game), I'm essentially of the opinion that it doesn't make a terribly big difference which Champions you use if you know a lot about the game's mechanics, intend to train your characters in all of their Skills to a reasonably high le...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

As far as I know, the only major change in degradation of buffed stats occurs once you cross the threshold of twice the buffed stat - this is not very exact, but, for example, it might take the same amount of time for the buffed Wisdom of a character with a base Wisdom of 60 to fall from 130 to 120 ...

Re: Best champions - an analytical approach

The degradation of buffed stats becomes much faster once you buff a character's stat to a level which is more than twice the character's natural level for that stat - this is one of the main factors which will determine how high you can buff a character's stats without having to rebuff very frequent...

Re: I'm done with big main-stream games

A part of me is seriously disheartened by the decline in the average quality of games in recent years, but another part of me realizes that the library of existing high-quality games which exists is truly huge at this point - to be honest, I have much more difficulty finding free time to play games ...

Re: I'm done with big main-stream games

I generally agree that the quality of new games has declined substantially during recent years, but I think the YouTube video focused too much on games which rely on microtransactions [to my knowledge, the inclusion of microtransactions in a game is still a dealbreaker for many gamers even today]. T...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?

I always disliked the puzzle with the large room of pits which open and close more than the puzzle with the teleporters, personally. Also, I actually managed to map out the open level with Gigglers / Ghosts / Pits on paper when I was playing Dungeon Master on the SNES roughly 20 years ago - if I rec...

Re: 2022 Dungeon Master "remake" in Unreal Engine 5

Yeah - I would really like to see a more comprehensive gameplay demo if the developer makes it that far. Also, the lighting level in the dungeon was very low in the video - hopefully that's for if you either don't have a source of light or only have a very dim one!

Re: strange bug in the st version

That's definitely an interesting bug - I have never seen or heard of it before, but I did encounter a weird bug during my playthrough of Dungeon Master a couple of years ago which caused a glowing orb to appear in the air [and remain there indefinitely] which looked somewhat like a Des Ew (i.e., har...

Thanks, ChristopheF! It's cool being able to see the full list like that. The Giggler theme is definitely the funniest track once you become familiar with the room full of Gigglers where it is used in the SNES version of the game....

The songs in the SNES version of the game definitely stop after playing for awhile. The songs generally seem to trigger when you step on particular squares within the dungeon.

Re: Dungeon Master Music

Thanks for yet another great remix of a classic Dungeon Master music track, Sphenx! Re: Best version of DM?

It's really not that bad if you're as used to using an SNES controller as I am. I don't think I would be able to do it substantially faster on a PC unless I actually went through with assigning hotkey shortcuts for specific functions or something like that.....

Re: Best version of DM?

I've only ever played the SNES version of Dungeon Master, myself, because I've always had a strong preference for [when possible] playing games using a video game controller from a couch on a large-screen TV to playing them using a keyboard/mouse on a PC while sitting at my desk....

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?

The room is relatively small but large enough that the Gigglers can easily run out of view and/or outside the range of Fireballs. I haven't really experimented with different strategies for clearing the room of Gigglers, but I would say it's too risky to venture inside the room early on to try filli...

Re: Favourite and least favourite level?

The open area on Floor 7 is definitely the worst place to encounter Gigglers, since they can be difficult to track down if they manage to escape after stealing some of your items. In the SNES version of the game, there is a hidden room on the Northeast side of this floor which has a huge number of G...
