Just checking in

Where does the time go? Is there a magic box, or maybe a ring that can slow this down? It doesn't feel *that* long ago when I was chasing records with Antman in my early twenties, designing dungeons and learning off Paul Stevens, Zyx, Gambit, Beowuuf and many others that I am eternally gratef...

Re: Solo runs with various champions

It's cool seeing people attempt the "no spellcasting" run - congratulations on completing it so quickly, Ian Clark! Which Champion are you using for your run, PaulH? --Jay The usual lol - Stamm. I need to splice some saves together as didn't have the time to do a full single run. I've los...

Re: Solo runs with various champions

I know I keep saying it - well at least in the past - but Stamm is my favourite solo character. I think he still holds the solo speed record! The axe early on is a huge bonus I find.

Leif is another favourite. I don't tend to go for the weaker spell casters, but I might try again just to see.

Re: Race to Fusion

I'll have to look into the hotkeys. So far I just use the numeric pad for movement, and the mouse for everything else. I often 'miss' with my mouse click which obviously wastes time, for example, when trying to pick up objects. My understanding with Chaos is that when he (I'm assuming male here!) is...

Re: Race to Fusion

Had some promising results! In order to test I created a super character in the HOC and experimented. I managed an 18 minute game, albeit I blasted most things out of the way. But it's given me a few ideas and where to optimise.

Re: Restocking shops in play

I have no coding skills either and felt that DSB wouldn't be the right platform for me, despite it being ultimately superior. But as you say, when you look at what Adamski achieved with RTC, then it is capable of producing some stunning results. I'm keeping half an eye on the objects, and am trying ...

Re: Restocking shops in play

Yeah, I keep getting the occasional bug or dead end in my work - when you have multiple triggers and relays, and the resulting possibilities, you literally have to think of every outcome! I'm finding it fun and challenging - but it is taking longer than I envisaged. I'm certainly enjoying conjuring ...

Re: Restocking shops in play

You've definitely understood :). I didn't want to overstock the shop in order to stop the player carrying too many of the object and unbalancing the game - basically the (simple) puzzle is as follows: You are in a mine and you need to clear some boulders with dynamite. You find a small supply, but y...

Re: Restocking shops in play

Thanks for the reply. Basically I wanted a fail safe mechanism so a shop couldn't run out of an item, without having to give it a very large number of items. The reason was that you had to buy an item to solve a puzzle, but the item could be used elsewhere potentially dead ending the game. My initia...

Restocking shops in play

I don't quite fully understand the mechanics of the shop system in RTC - it is what it is - but is there anyway of adding numbers to the shop inventory via a trigger? For example, the keeper gets stock after a certain point in the game, or after an item is used.

Favourite- the knight level. I just like knights - and especially destroying them with the diamond edge.
Least favourite - the firestaff level. A bit bland and boring!

Re: The final chapters

Things are moving on nicely! Rather slowly... but at least moving. As I've delved into more complex mechanics and actuator/relays assemblies, it has quickly becomes apparent that just one out of place can have huge knock on effects. Not just to the story line, but fatal consequences and crashes. You...

As we have (at least in the UK) the very probable prospect of being in a Covid related lockdown or similar for the foreseeable future, I need to find something to do with the free time this creates. Re: New experiences with an old game...DM

I have often thought similar to Gambit. Sure, it's a computer game with its own set of laws and physics, but the narrative has to be consistent within them boundaries. It asks the question - why did Chaos not just place a big ol' lump of wall at the entrance to stop people getting in? We can't break...

Re: New experiences with an old game...DM

I have a few gold coins left..

Interestingly Mophus used to be a staple of my go to team in the 80s. Halk-Stamm-Gothmog-Mophus: the journeymen! Didn't really care for Ninjas back then so Leyla was missed, but could have gone for Sonja.

I'll stand by that Stamm is the best :)

Re: (2nd?) Best game in DM's genre?

EOB2 was very good, but Black Crypt is the one that stands out. Great graphics for the time. Bane of the Cosmic Forge (Wizardry 6) is probably my favourite - gameplay was phased with battles, but great story and loads of items. I have replayed it many times, and still haven't found all the weapons!...
