Re: Duke Nukem Forever

I got a copy of the game (PC version) for my [censored] birthday and I've played the first three levels so far. It's a good laugh with similar humour to the original game and more interactivity with objects (such as the "balls of steel" pinball machine) and of course lots of alien butt-kic...

Re: Are custom dungeons for players, or the creators?

I found playing around with CSBuild and RTCEditor to be nerdy fun and very addictive. If after releasing your creation, no-one likes it much, at least you've enjoyed making it. If however, it is well-received you can bathe in the kudos :-) I used to play AD&D (*cough* version 1) in the 1980s and...

Re: [RTC] Dungeon Lore

Restricted runes sucks IMHO. I've said this before, I know. Other games such as EOTB require you to obtain scrolls to learn spells. DM operates with a "free magic" system - invoke any runes you have the mana for and you may or may not succesfully cast. Conflux II changed the formulae for s...

Re: [RTC] Girth of Life (New Dungeon)

Excellent first dungeon, Gronwald - I've been enjoying it, though it probably was a mistake to deny myself a beer until the party found some water - it took a while :-) At the start, the choice of who to add to the party is an interesting one and should provide some replayability. Karnor is a strong...

Re: Charging money to play custom dungeons?

Christophe is right... Just for fun I costed my Custom Dungeon (Angel's Egg) against the rate the British taxpayer pays for my services. The figure I came up with was £28,000. I estimate about 20 people have played the dungoen, if each donated £5 that would nibble £100 off the cost. Basically I don'...

It's been a fascinating election. I'm pleased that John Denham is still my MP as I respect him greatly. Unfortunately I think the likely new PM, David Cameron, is a useless upper-class twit who I wouldn't trust to organise a coffee morning at Starbucks :-(

Re: Angel's Egg RTC

0.36 was used for the intial RTC build, and the latest version (1.4) was indeed created with 0.48, and there have been no subsequent releases (I probably would have done one if my dunge had been more popular).

Don't mind handing over the source files for posterity - how do you want them delivered?

Re: Gaining Priest Spells

Ever watched the TV show Merlin? Dunno if it shows in the US. Often the young wizard attempts incantations but they don't always work, and sometimes they do when he perseveres. Spells in DM are supposed to work in a similar way :-)

Re: Gaining Priest Spells

I still find it hard to understand why people want DM's spell system to work like AD&D, and/or other fantasy RPGs. The rune-based spell system is wonderfully fun and free and one of DM's major plus points. Changing the formulas is cool, but making players find scrolls or be a particular level su...

Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web

Being a fan of the psychedelic rock band Gong (the inspiration for the story in my Angel's Egg dungeon) I was pleased that the old farts all got back together in 2006 for the Unconvention, then followed that up with a splendid new album (2032). They got some top Japanese animators to produce this st...

Re: Films you should watch, books you should read

I did eventually go to see The Imagninarium of Doctor Parnassus at the cinema. The fantasy scenes inside the Imaginarium were superb on the big screen. I thorouhgly enjoyed the movie as did the friend I went with (who nearly talked me into watching "9" instead). Not everyone in the auditor...

When I was born the UK still had the death penalty. Ethnic minorities were routinely persecuted. Women did not have equal employment rights. Homosexuality was a crime. Cancer survival rates were very low. Life expectancy was lower, infant mortality higher, road deaths much higher, pollution much wor...

Re: Angels Egg - Pixie Prison

In earlier versions of Angel's Egg you had to throw a gold coin through a portcullis. Then there was a change in RTC regarding which objects would and wouldn't pass through so I had to add a pad to open the portcullis. Otherwise it's the same, after using the correct item a teleporter appears to you...
