na, not greek, russian. ;-) And the mess has been a control unit, perfectly designed and painstakingly grounded... which then doesn't help at all if the shroud of the USB plug comes in touch with the aluminium casing. Then of course looking for a plastic bit to ensure the isolation, realizing, any s...

Dammit, so many interesting threads, so little time. I'd love to hear more wise words from all of you guys. (Happyness Science!) The "da_list" or "friendly society idea" needs to be finished, if I got right what Zyx meant (which I usually don't). Some PMs wait for answers and I s...

Couldn't it be one of them had a "being chased" dream, similar to those we tend to have from time to time? And then 'infected' the others with panic?
like eh... morning breath?Maybe you'd been handling something that smelt weird (to them) and it made them freak out a bit?

Re: Olympic rant..
Some of the matches of the soccer world championship in 2006 took place in Stuttgart and while the preparations were going on (with all the negative side-effects) I thought to myself "oh my god, this is gonna be a gathering of the most [...] people mankind has to offer: football fans and hoolig...

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
Feeling 'at home' already? ... I vividly remember driving in my car alone on my way to a friend and listening to the radio... I've tried to capture such a moment while driving to the barn... it wasn't the right song (it played on the radio) to really get emotional, but I just felt happy at that mome...

(my advice for you Jan: stay where you are. Man, you're a teacher! You really have some powers. People learn from you, not only the stuff you teach, but also what you have to say, the way you say it, the way you teach. You can help them finding their place in this world. People in their early twenti...

TOMi, would you elaborate on your "Friendly society" idea? I'm working. It's a bit difficult, not sure if I'll manage. Until then you will hear soft elevator music and watch this video on how rural agriculture work and coders in cubicles (their natural enviroment) can go side by side: htt...

@Maven:  (and lots of them) this is amazing... you know, when you read what people post, you can't help but building an image of what these people 'are like'. And I had quite a few "Doh!" moments in this thread already... my, I feel soooo stupid. :-) (where is that monkey smiley whe...

Trantors snow melting curse has been dispelled! IT IS BACK ! 20 cm of fresh white stuff covering everything. Couldn't go to work, no marathon work week, but heck, the year is still young and the future is... well, white? It is just beautiful! This must be the longest and most 'whitey' winter since I...

Meh, I didn't feel like starting this thread on my own. I'm happy Jan did. :-P And I remember that message. But forgot to reply. Sorry about that. :-/ Also the main thing (as pointed out by Jan) was about knowing "what we could do - for each other", rather than the odd "look what I ca...
Re: Snow!! :D
May I blame Trantor?
For everything?
All the snow is gone now.
And what did it left behind?
Mud, dirt, filth and a formerly beautiful crafted sculpture
now turned into something that has a faint resemblance with a rockpile.
BAN TRANTOR - YAY WINTER !

yes, it takes them about half an hour to stand and follow their mom and little more than a few hours to keep up to the pace of the herd. I guess their personality expresses itself pretty fast. To be honest: I have no idea, really. After all, I just saw maybe 4-5 horses grow up and only one so close ...

ok, this will earn me a bunch of , but last weekend we (guys AND gals!) were totally drunk (Gin Tonic iced with snow) and madly stoned (fine homegrown from last summer) and ended up building this heavily mophus-inspired sculpture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIdokH44zPQ Then they forced me...

Re: Asdfasdfasdf windows.
Personally I would highly recommend to switch to a operating system called "Horse 1.0". It has been beta-tested for more than 150 million years, so with version 1.0 now available at your computer store, you can take advantage of it's advanced technology today. However, despite the fact tha...

Same here. :-( Not a whole lot of close relatives luckily, but many friends I knew since childhood. Close and not-so-close ones who died in accidents, committed suicide or got addicted to heroin, changing to a point I wouldn't recognize them anymore, then finally dying from an overdose. We could open a thread about how to deal with the loss of beloved ones. Not really sure if it'll help tough. It's a very personal thing after all. Something you have to deal with on your very own. Talking helps, but when you're alone again, the memories and the guilt are there just like they were be...
