Re: Reincarnate in CSB??

You can train in the secret rooms in the "HoC" of CSB, that helps a lot. You should be able to build enough skills to kill the worms in the starting room. After that, you are mostly set and will have proper levels when you meet the first hard monsters. I play a ressurrected duo game on my ...

Ah well, as I see, I answered the PM a bit late, sorry for that! I still kind of like this puzzle, but I can see why other people don't. Well, to be honest, I found it quite hard to create ninja-like puzzles and even DM and CSB offer very few ideas to be inspired from. A hint scroll or wall text mig...

Actually only one wing of the door is wider than in the final version - the left one, which was cut off later. That explains why the front door never opened evenly in the final version. That always irritated me.

I had bug 2 when playing the game on my Atari back then. I always thought of it as a feature and found it quite cool. I didn't even know it was fixed, I just assumed I got better in fusing over time. :)

Re: The List: Best RPG

Oh yeah, and Diablo 2 is fantastic as well, if you count it as an RPG. I deliberately left it out to avoid starting that discussion. D2 might not have the dialogues of Baldur's Gate etc, but it has surely atmosphere and an exciting story. You always know why you slaughter hordes of monsters. ;) The...

Quite argueable list... ;) A lot of people like Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment, they are generally seen as highlights of the RPG genre. I personally like Neverwinterwinter Nights very much, especially the each 1st Add-On (Shadows of Undrentide to NWN1 and Mask of the Betrayer of NWN2). There ar...

You can still get a lot of indy games at COG, MobyGames or Steam, it's not like the whole market is eaten up and dominated by large companies.

Well, this thread here really isn't far down: http://dungeon-master.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=24249 "Favorite" isn't really the same as "best", as the discussion clearly shows. ;) Not that "best" would be explicit, but at least we can agree on things like &quo...

Best CSB champion

I can't believe there isn't a discussion about that around. Did I miss it or is that caused by most people transfering DM-heroes? Either way, I'll replay CSB soon enough (on my next train ride with my mobile :D) and I'm not too sure about whom to take. I want to duo it this time, so Str is more of a...

Re: Dungeon Master for Pocket PC / Win CE

After reading a bit in the config and comparing the different setups, it was actually quite easy: I only had to change the 7th number of each portrait (copymode) from 0 to 1 -> voilà mana bars! I wonder why copymode=0 is the default, i rather have an ugly mana bar than none. The setup you suggested ...

Re: Dungeon Master for Pocket PC / Win CE

I did not change anything to the config.txt which was supplied with 11.7. I have seen that there are several predefined settings, mostly commented out with ";", in the config.txt and the active one is very good for my display next to the missing mana bars (and the fact I have to get used t...

Re: Dungeon Master for Pocket PC / Win CE

The G-Sensor rotates the screen by 90° if I flip my mobile. That is quite handy when browsing the internet or using other broad applications, would also be helpful for CSBwin. Otherwise, rearranging the interface wouldn't make too much sense, since the dungeon view uses full width atm. After checkin...

I have to report some minor bugs for CSBwinCE2002 11.7. I use a T-Mobile MDA 5 (branded HTC Touch 2 Diamond): The scroll after quitting the game is scrambled - the same way the interface is rearranged. After dieing, the mouse cursor is on screen and follows the hand. There are other issues which mig...

That's a cool wish, mine is quite similar: I'm really good at finding loopholes and the best way to do something, so I'd really like to do the balancing at computer games, especially for any kind of building/simulation game. Zynga could use my expertise for example. ;) But quite hard to display this...

Re: Need a new PC, but not sure of best option

Just start your machine up, you have some backups before your CPU melts: 1. Modern CPUs don't use too much power in desktop mode and most of the time, yours will run at half power anyways, since dualcore isn't supported across the bank. So it won't get that hot initially, allowing you to measure the...

Re: Need a new PC, but not sure of best option

The onboard ATI chip is fine, and because it's onboard, I need much less cooling and power -- hence only going for a 500W PSU. In fact, I can probably get away with a 400W PSU. You can surely get away with 400W, maybe even with less. I have a 450W PS and can't exhaust it above 80%, so it's always r...

Re: Need a new PC, but not sure of best option

Buying state-of-the-art is never the best option, if anything, buy the 2nd best. That is what I did some weeks ago and spent some 800 bucks on a AMD 965 BE CPU, Gigabyte board, ATI 5770 GPU, 4 GB RAM (no point in 8 GB for gaming), Win 7 pro, 1 TB Samsung HDD and a nice tower with good cooling (ANTEC...

I wouldn't buy anything anyways, so the ads would be lost on me. And those ads are financed by the revenues they create and not by the views, so I don't feel bad about blocking.

You really prefer Zak to the newer titles? It doesn't even have dialogues, which makes it for me, despite the awesome story, far worse than newer LucasArts games.

Are you sure you have it setup right? I can play LofL perfectly well with no sound problems on my PC which is getting on for 8 years old! And it's nowhere near the power of a P4! Actually not, but this has a lot of obscure settings in the .ini I don't have any clue about. Especially the first part,...

Re: Help needed: buying a new PC to play old games

I know that, but emulating a faster DOS-machine eats up CPU power like nothing. Lands of Lore for example needs a 486 with 40-50 Mhz to run smooth and properly and i wasn't able to emulate such a "fast" CPU with my P4 (3200 Mhz -.-). Even with frameskips I had lagging sound. And the CPU in...

Re: Help needed: buying a new PC to play old games

To be honest, i doubt that will be comparable. While the other stuff suffices for older games, the CPU is really weak. It's ok if you can play the games directly, but might be too slow for emulating.

Re: Help needed: buying a new PC to play old games

You need mainly a really good CPU, because that's what is most needed by media players and also by DOSBox. My good old P4 for example is too slow to properly emulate Lands of Lore in DOSBox. That would be a AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE or an Intel Core i7. If you don't have any modern game you really wan...

I like the style, but i also think it's a bit too white. Since you only use a fixed width for the content, you could frame it with another color (dark green or grey maybe). That will reduce the white by more than half (for me). :)
