Re: Intermittent service
What scale is this DOS attack (how much is it lagging the server)? Is it frequent bursts of lag? Or is it consistent lag? Isn't there a way to block all activity from a certain IP address (even though it still has to filter the packets, which takes time... but less than returning the ping)? I person...

Re: Dungeon Dwellers
@Ameena: Looking at the Apple iStore, and seeing all those $1 games springs to mind... then there's all the $1 in-app purchases. If you want that little something extra, then you give them $1-2 dollars and you get it. It's quite an effective marketing technique.

Fair point. Still... it would make for a good "low spec" option :P EDIT: You mentioned "graphics glitches" earlier... I take it that you're referring to how the mountains take a bit to process. Look at how Minecraft just pops chunks into view. It's honestly not that bad... don't ...

Re: Forum Restructuring
My PC is running WinXP and it's an Intel I-5 3470... it's meant to be running Win7 (which I have able to dual-boot... but I prefer XP... using 32-bit memory pointers, being 1/2 the size, definitely improves system performance... especially for games, where memory pointers can be used quite a lot).

Re: Changing Maximum Party Size On the Fly?
You should be able to pass the "activation of a mirror" off to a relay (the mirror object itself activates the relay) that checks the party size. If the party size is greater than the value of a counter (that you could set to whatever value), then you can remove the member from the party (...

Re: Planet Explorer
I read it all without falling asleep... guess you should be impressed then? Hehehe :P EDIT: As for the particles... if you're using additive blending, then sorting isn't needed, and the order of input is irrelevant (you could render in front-to-back order and the result should be the same). I'm fair...

Re: Everlasting Dungeons
After trying to start it up, I got a dependency error pop up, OpenAL32.dll (found it here ). And the dependency on Octave is quite a drawback... :( But on the plus side, I must say that it runs very nicely on my PC. I have an Intel I-5 quad-core with 8gb of RAM... only 4gb "usable" to WinX...

@Linflas: That sounds like a great idea! It'd really help the DSB n00bs :P I'm mainly trying to think of the other people that are either just learning or haven't even discovered DSB yet. Those people are going to come along and go "Wow! Great engine! Where do I start?" and then they'll s...

Re: Changing Maximum Party Size On the Fly?
You can remove a member from the party by using a WALLITEM_ACTION: - Clone a mirror, and give it a name that'll make it stand out from other mirrors. Place 1 of these mirrors somewhere in the dungeon (it can be anywhere... but just make sure you only have 1 in the dungeon, this part is important). -...

I use Firefox on WinXP, and I never having any kind of caching issues (except that it occasionally forgets my login details, and I have to login again :( ). I'm also running Win7 with dual boot (but I run XP 99.9% of the time), and Firefox runs just the same. Opera however has plenty of problems (I ...

Re: Suggestion: More than 3 attack methods
I've created a more expanded interface, using the DM2 resources. It even includes the spell-casting gfx (the ones that show up in DM2 when casting, that represent a bit better what each rune does). And I've made the arrows completely disappear when you bring up the attack method menu... which has fr...

Console text duration
In DSB is it possible to change the console text duration (so that the console text at the bottom of the screen stays up shorter/longer)? If not, I'd like to suggest a new variable in global.lua that controls how long the text stays up (with an option for -1 meaning indefinitely, so it only disappea...

Re: Suggestion for DSB topics
@Sophia: Can you PLEASE split it into subtopics? Please... please... pretty please?!?! Did I forget the cherry on top? :P On a more serious note, it'd be much easier to locate certain areas of interest. It'd also make it far more organized. It'd make it way easier to find out if someone else has po...

(done) Suggestion: More than 3 attack methods
I've noticed that even when I put more than 3 attack methods on an item, I can only use the top 3. I've tried to rework the base code, but the function sys_render_attack_method uses a "num" variable that seems to determine the number of attack methods that an item has... and this number se...

Suggestion for DSB topics
Would it at all be possible to split the DSB topic into subtopics (like how RTC has the general/bugs/suggestions/editing/utilities)? I feel that DSB has become big enough to warrant this... and it's becoming increasingly harder to find things because you have to go dredging through 8 pages of thread...

Re: Bug: Monsters can be heard too far away
While you make a good point, I can also see it coming back and biting me if a loud monster abruptly turns silent and the game seems unrealistic because of that. Although that is true, shouldn't the "loud monster" get quieter as it moves farther away (up until the point of being muted). Co...

Re: "Editor Strikes Back" - A GUI editor for DSB
A "cut copy paste" between two dungeons would then require using the Windows clipboard. I saw, allegro has no support about the Windows clipboard, so this would be to do with the Win32API. It could also use a temporary file, that acts as ESB's clipboard (that's where ESB could store it's ...
