Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

Congratulations! You have found the most evil section of the four paths! And it only gets worse... About the fireballs and the switch: The switch creates more Slime Devils. You are supposed to let them "catch" the fireballs for you so you don't have to take them to the head. There are two ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

So basically what I'm trying to say here is that I was here before many of the "older" members and as such I theoretically deserve more praise and honour and admiration and even a regular salary here and stuff but I don't ask for it because I'm extremely modest. More praise, honor and adm...

Not quite. It should be somewhere between 4 and 6 fireballs.

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

Don't worry about the open area with the pits yet. That is the easier part of this huge room as you can at least see the dragons there. Kill the ones in the invisible walls first. Cast Ful Bro Neta (Fireshield) to protect yourself against the dragons. Casting it multiple times will ensure better pro...

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

Heh, I never use a base at all. Keep the keys. You will run across several locks for them sooner or later anyway. Most are just for some minor treasure or small shortcuts. I'd advise keeping 2-3 Ful and Ven bombs for places with tough monsters. But you can easily finish the game without them. They j...

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

A few hints about the general structure that may or may not help you find your way around: The whole dungeon has 10 levels. The starting room and the Supplies for the Quick are on level 5 , and as Jan said, the battle with the Dragon took place on level 10 . When you exit the Junction (no matter on ...

Congratulations on finishing CSB! If you want more, similar games, Jan already pointed you to something, but there is more: - Try Sophia's Surgical Strike for a game that feels very similar to CSB. - Try Adamski's Tower of Champions if you want the next step, with puzzles that are more complex and m...

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

Kill the Vexirks, and you will find your fountain. You can lure them into the "no fireballs" room where there spells will backfire onto them. Lunge forward, stab them with your weapons, retreat, and they will fry themselves. There are lots of them, but you will be rewarded with a fountain ...

Re: New & Confused!

The only thing I dislike about CSBWin / the ST version is the lack of sounds when monsters move. Just for those alone I'd recommend either DSB or an Amiga emulator. I'd steer clear of RTC for now though it's good as well. You probably won't notice the differences if you are not very familiar with th...

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

1. That's easier said than done. ;) Your best bet is probably to go up, through the Antmen area, until you are in a very chaotic, huge room and then descend down again to another dragon - from there, you can get back to the Supplies for the Quick . 2. Either follow 1. or go back to the Junction and ...

Re: Playing CSB for the first time-Will need advice

Lord Soth, your feeling of being completely lost and not knowing where to go next is EXACTLY what sets CSB so much apart from DM. It's normal. Eventually, you will find a few ways you will follow again and again. You entered the fighter path (Ku), which is why you had to fight so many monsters. Also...

Yeah, stronger heroes would be better, but you can definitely do CSB with those champions. The hardest part is finding your way around, not super-tough monsters (though CSB has quite a few of those as well).

Re: About to play DM for first time since 88 - will need adv

The Des Ew spell (harm non-material beings) also works on the Materializers, but only if they are not transparent. This is only the case when they attack. So move up to them, take a hit from a fireball and then IMMEDIATELY cast the spell, it should work as well. Of course, Vorpal Blades work, too. W...

Re: About to play DM for first time since 88 - will need adv

Think of the Fury as several stored, mana-free fireballs. It's cool that Tiggy can cast them herself now, but they always cost mana - the one in the Fury don't. About level 11: You chose the easiest way. ;) The other two paths are harder and feature different monsters. If I recall correctly, there i...

Thanks for correcting the link Beo. @oh_brother: There is one major issue - a possible dead-end - near the end. Look at the first post in this thread, there is a warning to it. Other issues are probably minor and shouldn't affect gameplay. The music may not work as intended, but I never found out wh...

The guy in the gameplay video does sound like he's on drugs... He explains that the game was finished in 1993, but unreleased at the time. One of the prototypes then was supposedly released in 2011 (only 60 copies) by an American Atari fan for other fans. The rest is just an explanation of the gamep...

There are a few very obscure hints about Magic in my dungeon as well. As for a DM deck,...

About Dune: I thought the first book was alright, but not great. I REALLY had to pull myself together to finish the second book and haven't read on. Has anyone read the Witcher books from Andrzej Sapkowski? Really good fantasy short stories and novels with lots of irony and fun real-world references...
