Sonia just hmphed, going back inside. "Eh, cheapskates, all 'a yas!" shouted the heckler again, and the murmur of the crowd started up again, as the people filed away from the manor house and back towards the down. However, the one voice that dared for ask for two thousand found itself bum...

(RPG) The tale begins...

(I'll use the other thread for background, character info, commentary, etc., and post actual game updates here) The gathering had drawn together all different sorts, with all different motives-- some had no doubt been attracted by the large bounty placed by several of the Great Houses to be paid to...

Ok, here, finally, are some ideas on the nature of magic. Ameena helped me a lot with it, so throw things at both of us if you don't like it. ;) *** The basis of magical power in this world is, as is to be expected, energy. Some call it "mana," some call it "ether," others simply...

Maybe we'll actually get to start this thing at some point.

I have no problem with anyone creating new races, character types, etc., as long as they fit in with the general feel of the setting. Honestly, though, I'd rather characters created a sense of "uniqueness" by *who* they are, not just race but personality, powers, and personal style, not th...

Actually, I left the topic of species deliberately open, to see what people wanted to do. I like the idea of if it's not human, it's very not human-- aren't we all sort of bored of elves and dwarves and gnomes and such, too? :) The astral creature idea is a good one! Other hooks might be: The Sylph ...

The RPG in all of its glory (maybe)

Here it is... the RPG setting! It took me a little to come up with this, but hopefully it's worth it. :) I'm kind of bored of basic Medieval-Europe-ish fantasy settings, so I've tried to come up with something a little different. My inspirations were, primarily, Indian Mythology, concepts of "c...

Yes do that! :)

(Though maybe not YET, it'd probably work better if I posted the setting details first, and I'm just waiting for everyone who expressed some degree of interest to chime in on that one.)

I wouldn't say exactly "creating," I'm not sure if it's going to be that much mental overhead-- probably simply setting parameters. There will be plenty of stuff to be made up as we go along, I'm sure. :D

Ok, that's fine, if there are no objections-- and any objection had better also include the words "I volunteer" :D

Otherwise, let me know anything you emphatically do not want in the setting. So I don't come up with something stupid you all hate!

No, you're right, nobody (or almost nobody anyway) can lay it all out in chronological order at first and have it work. It requires re-editing, re-tooling, minor changes to past events to make them consistent and releveant with events that happen later on. In other words, exactly what cannot be done...

It's unlikely they'd be evenly matched, but that doesn't mean that people won't disagree on which side would win. Each might think the mismatch is in their favor. Some impartial and final means of conflict resolution, not just fights, but any sort of situation that cannot be negotiatied, is essentia...

No, I'm not going to rub it in; I've done that already. I had already decided to post constructive criticism as opposed to just snickering and pointing. The trouble, to me anyway, is, the scene change to a seemingly unrelated situation and such is a common storytelling device, but, as those stories ...

The problem with your approach, Ameena, is that what you have just described goes on forever-- "Bob swiftly sidestepped the blade, instead trying to bash in Fred's head from above" "Fred's helmet absorbed the blow easily, and he laughed as he continued to slash at Bob" or whateve...

I would reverse the connotations. Chatrooms are great for RPGing, except for the big problem that everyone has to be there at the same time. Which may be a big problem, since we've got people here from all over the world (or at least both sides of the Atlantic) Anyway, I'm not sure about using anoth...

Right now releases work strangely. (I'm sorry, this is probably a bug, but I forgot about it until I was reminded of it just now) You can specify an item, and a copy of that item will get created at -1, -1, but the original instance of the item still exists. I wonder if the whole way RELEASE works m...

Combat will invariably happen, and there has to be some means of resolution, or it will inevitably result in nothing but bickering and stupidity. Anyway, Ameena, I meant Vampire: the Masquerade, which is a rather medicore RPG based on vampires and such with kind of neat LARP rules. Or maybe it's jus...

Exactly-- it doesn't pay to plan any sort of a future for a character when the next post could create chaos for them, and completely alter their circumstances. Either that, or you would have to invoke some magic deus-ex-machina "reset button" to restore things to the way they were, but too...
