I agree with 3D

I think freedom of movement can only enhance DM if done right. Also imagine an 'improved' DM with more freedom of movement for character and monster fights...having to dart around and intelligently block and attack creatures rather than the 'standing fights' in the original.

But it's there! It's calling out to be killed!
I remember the good old days when I didn't think it could be killed, and ran around with the Staff of Claws and the Horn of Fear chasing it around the level.....an it was in the amiga days, so there was the lovely horn blowing sound too :)

Re: The Dragon

The dragon is resistant, but not immune, to fire. I agree that weaons are best to take it out, but magic does help too. The dragon starts at 2700hp, so even 25 FUL bombs won't waste it...

Re: Bouncing Frame Rate

I am finding this bouncing frame rate from the start up...it makes the mouse and movement judder in speeds like anything. It starts with a low frame rate at start-up (13 - 20), then jumps up and down after.

I have a Celeron 400, 128Mb, Win98SE, ATI Rage 128 (onboard)

Hmm, I have this other idea for a dungeon set in a park, with reanimated dinosaurs.... Seriously I had this idea for a dungeon where you would get choices from grouped parties...choice of an all mage party, all fighter, or a few balanced parties What would people think of/prefer as natural party gro...

Hi, this topic...

...is buried deep in either the dmute section or on the unofficial noitceboard. I think what was said was that only early versions of the amiga game had this 'bug' Someone found a way to get this effect, it was to hex edit a tile to: 0 0 30 0 0 0 0 0 0 C, or whatever the value of a flux cage is in b...

Turn individual party members to face different directions

It might be nice to be able to turn party members independantly, as happens when attacked, and also 'lock' a member to they won't react to attacks. This way you can stop front row people from spinning in multiple combats when trying to take on front attackers. Also, having party members fire spells ...

Hunger, the evil killer....

On DM hunger is no problem, but some other dungeons are very evil that way...there is nothing worse than getting hungry and thirsty, with all magic poured into keeping everyone in decent stamina ranges, limiting your sleeping and wandering around time, and also making everyone slower and more likely...

I like the struggle

I don't like training up for the simple reason it is such a nice feeling to have to struggle against creatures, etc then suddenly find you can cast that powerful spell, use that option. For example, in my own 'Stamm only' dungeon, there is enough starting food and water to get him to a decent magic ...

Wow, getting back into EotB...anyway, the gem puzzles solves as...

Soul gem: passed the moving pits Heart gem: Wander through the teleporters until you find it Mind gem: Illusionary wall on the right side just before the teleporters (take it this is the one that couldn't be found)

Re: Re: CSB & Eye Of The Beholder2 Questions

This made me want to replay the game again (I completed it years ago on Amiga, too long ago...) - all I could in my travels for downloading it was a spoiler thing for the level that said: Cast dispel magic on the statues to reveal passage. Soul gem : Beyond the 2 moving holes. Heart gem : Beyond the...

Freedrive

At the top of this page is the link - the 'you can upload and download' files part. You will have to register with freedrive, which takes no time. Then textmute and other dungeons are yours.

I agree with Gambit

The wall colour makes everything seem too dark, even at full light, and so for me doesn't 'feel right'. Otherwise seems good - the graphics really come into their own with the smaller res setting, and I like the far away skeleton graphic, even if it is a glitch atm : )

Yes, the vault is the 'cast your influence, cast your might' one. If you cast a ZO spell (ist symbol then 6th) at the door, then throw an object through the open door, the pit will close. If you check out the page this links from (the Un-Official DM website), or find out the link for the DM/CSB ency...

Re: Re: Re: Spell descriptions and FUL bombs

Well you would only have 19 in DM, and they wouldn't be greatly effective against lots of higher monsters, but I do think the game balance would be an issue. It's a shame, as I know I spent AGES (like alot of people) trying out every gor combo of spells, and also trying to create a ful bomb...ah wel...

so it's not a w2k problem, which i thought (newer 'dos' optomised for fast comp possibly). MUst just be the processor - i have high memory and dm runs ok (then again i am still under win98) the mouyse speed is more to do with the resolution/w2k i think. unless you are used to it, lowering the window...

Spell descriptions and FUL bombs

I was reading my old DM manual today, and noted these two entry bits in the spell descriptions... FUL: ...further symbols can bottle this power... GOR: ..recent usage has broadened the power of GOR to the creation of dangerous potions... It sounds like FUL GOR (xxx) should have created a FUL bomb, a...

Hi-spec machines

I recently played DM (or tried) on a very high spec machine running Windows 2000, and found it unplayably fast. Monsters, timing and spells all flew too quickly, though character movement seemed the same - so even being up against a normally slow moving dragon was challenging to impossible. Anyone e...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...

...the real question does seem to be more 'Would everyone support RTC', which seems so far to be, in varying degrees, yes. DMute does everything we need to edit the dungeons, apart from one or two things that, as zyx has shown, can be researched and implimented by other people. DM still has many sub...

I think Gambit hit it on the head

There is something rewarding about working within the limits, trying to push what can be done and figure out the potentials of the original. That being said, from playing RTC it feels so like DM that I personally have no problem with creating dungeons on that instead, since it would give the DM feel...

I think the fact that it could be played on a very simple level, yet if you wanted to go deeper you found it did have so many more levels to it. You could happily play a hack/slash/magic shooting game, but if you wanted to try and intelligently train or use weapons and magic, then this was actually ...

I have had no crash problems with the text now (good idea to only allow the text to be edited now and to remove the problem bits at the end) - this has definately been a great New Year's opener! Constant shop idea

Object shooters firing to the teleport, making the last 3 or so objects the same money so that people will get the idea that the shop is closed for that coin type (apparently the game crashes if the shooter runs out of objects). I think I possibly deleted too many characters zyx, so I'll just play around and be more careful...I assume there is no problem getting rid of the _A, etc characters and replacing them?

I only had a quick play around with it before going out today, but i got all the text to edit fine (it even shows up on dmute!), but one of the edits, although displaying fine, caused a game crash (sysetm 72 error!) two steps after in any direction... Also, combined comic/sci-fi stores will usually stock D&D items, so you can simply chat to one of the store people for a while to get the idea of the game. And I agree with the 'interest for interest' suggestion above :)
