Re: (RTC) New Dungeon! Surgical Strike (2.2)

I see Dark Reign in the custom dungeon listed as a DSB game.
Actually, the first Dark Reign from Saumun is a RTC game, later he made a DSB version.

Re: New experiences with an old game...DM

Creatures have no knowledge of where they originated They wander randomly, so they don't go far from where they came from. That is from a non intuitive result of probability. The probability of the presence of a creature drops quite fast over the distance of origin. This fact can induce one to thin...

Thanks to Ameena, I remember the need for Pasti

Here is, all about Pasti with a link to download Pasti.Dll
http://pasti.fxatari.com/

It says, this Pasti.Dll is a beta version. I recall I found no other version, and it works fine.

Re: (2nd?) Best game in DM's genre?

I have used an emulator du run on a PC, the Atari games I enjoyed, and found about all of them on a good site that has tons. But....I cannot remember the name of the emulator nor the name of the site. DOS box came later at a time Atari Amiga machines and games were killed by PC games. Feel free to a...

I see it is available on abandonware-france.org for download. Should work with a Windows running DOS box.
There are many other sites compiling old games, giving downloads, to look for Ishar 1/2/3.

Yes, exactly.
I liked Ishar 1 and 2.

Ishar 3 was disappointing, nothing new apparently, so I quit.

Re: Couple of quick questions

Duplicating the sound file for each and every sound volume is about the worst solution one can imagine. In DM, and DSB I presume, the sound volume is based on distance. That is not so good when there are walls and closed doors in between. To take care of this, a dungeon designer could use a set ( ho...

No deadly traps ?
What about fireballs flying all over the place.
I wonder how the ceiling can hold on in large rooms with no pillar.
This shows, Lord Chaos magic is much powerful.

Re: where did Lord Chaos get his Skeletons from?

What is remarkably well done, is when you first encounter trouble in DM, it seems near impossible to overcome. One can be stuck for a while. Once you manage to go on, this is very rewarding, until the next trouble that seems too tough. Your champions get better, but troubles becomes worse. Once you ...

In Dungeon Keeper, creatures come from a portal.
Spiders, Roaches, Goblins, Trolls, Demons.
Skeletons, Ghosts, Vampires come from killed and tortured heroes.

Re: Important Items to Keep With You Instead of Discarding.

The bow is a must item at the riddle room AND later. At the riddle room, once the way has opened thanks to the bow with 3 other items, the bow is needed later. Later you must "prove your strength". This asks for the bow to shoot an arrow far enough onto a pressure pad opening a way to proc...

- People who do not want to train their champions for hours should use a champion editor to directly set the values of each champion's skills and statistics.

I was talking about gigglers in DM. I played a bit the SNES version, I remember I saw a couple of things not the same. It could very well be you are right about gigglers, with better skills in SNES. A side point. What about rusters ? In the original DM they do not rust at all. In custom RTC games th...

Re: "Extra Weight" Bug in SNES Version of Dungeon Master.

From Chritopher description there is no way to revert it.
It is even, cumulative; Doing more saves can only increase the trouble.
To revert it would require holding a negative weight object. There is no such thing, the lightest weight is 0 pound, Corbamites and ZoKathRa spells for instance.

The use of a magic box you refer to, is the only place in DM where you do no need a magic box.
But, it is not necessary, what you get is not a must.

I had no success with invisibility.
I think it does not work, so forgot about using this spell.
Same about darkness, it does darken but I found no use for it like hiding in the dark.
It seems there is no way to trick monsters with invisibility and darkness.

Nice.
The CRT low resolution was adding to the pictures anti aliasing that had been mostly well executed.
One feel you will never simulate is the not so good mouse with it's crummy roller ball. A sort of lag or inaccuracy, some small play with hysteresis.

The two invisible teleporters in the each corridor are oscillating. You have to find the right time to avoid entering the first one and enter the second one. You can place items on the floor to check if the first teleporter is active or not and wait until it is inactive. I don't think they oscillat...

In real life, the word "VI" is French for "water" or "life". It seems appropriate in it's usage in creating healing potions to me. Just a fun fact I had to share. "La vie" is life in french, "vivre" is to live, "il vit" is he lives in fren...
