Re: !! Some NEW tricks !!

It's not the Gem of Ages that affects light - that would be the Illumulet. It actually prevents light from dropping to the lowest level, so if you wear it, light will never go lower than level 1 (I think there are six levels of light).

Wearing more than one makes no difference to the light level.

Re: Dungeons and hex doc

Hi beowwuf. I only just downloaded the hex tutorial for the first time today - although I don't really use DMute anymore, I thought I'd like to see what you'd done... Anyway, it's a great doc and goes a long way to making DMute much easier to understand. I have two suggestions though: First, in the ...

That file should be part of Windows anyway, so not sure why you wouldn't have it installed... What version of Windows is it....?

<t>I think you'll find that Paul ported the *hacked* version of CSB over to Windows. The hacked version added the four slots but didn't implement the Make New Adventure facility for all the slots. Paul has made it quite clear that he ported the code *as is* and was not interested in adding or changi...

Re: SNES

Yes, you need to make a DOS boot disk - anyof your friends who have an older win95/98 machine should be able to do this, or there are files on this site that you can download to make one. Note that you'll you need DOS drivers for your mouse and sound card too. It can be a tricky thing to set up, but...

Re: Monster shadows

That's easy - draw a duplicate of the bitmap setting all pixels to black (don't know the actual code for this but I know it can be done) and change it's transparency setting. DM did the same thing on objects when you picked them up, only without the transparency (obviously).

Re: crash on save game screen

I've not yet experienced this in version 0.12, but I got it in v0.10 a few times. Just before it happens I always hear the hard-disk being thrashed quite badly, so I can tell what's going to happen, and I just have to grin and bear it. When I used to use DMute I would get the same thing happening af...

As Beowuuf already noted on a previous post, there is a very large Dungeon Master website run by ChristopheF which is called the Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes back Encyclopedia. It can be found at: <a href="http://dmweb.free.fr/">dmweb.free.fr/</a> RTC (Return to Chaos) is a clone being...

Absolutely bloody brilliant! George, you are a genius. Isn't it funny how some of the simplest, most elegant solutions often take the longest to discover? Your idea would really make a massive difference to character selection. In the past, it's often been hard weighing up which characters to take s...

Re: Questions about graphics formats and restrictions

Hi Beowuuf again... I haven't actually been away that long. In real terms it's only a few weeks, but I missed out on tsting v0.11 as I was working hard on rebuilding the core template for my website (so that it now targets version 5 browsers and above and prints correctly). It's gone through six (!)...

My apologies... I was mixing two things together. You're right - the spell always explodes on the square, but only does damage if the creature is solid. Vorpal blades do damage regardless of material state.

RE: mystery passage

You can do this manoeuver multiple times on the Amiga version of CSB. Replacing the vorpal opens the wall behind which is a portcullis that requires an onyx key to open it. It also sets off all the Rive generators too.... Don't know if this works on the ST version - I seem to recall that passage did...

Re: Questions about graphics formats and restrictions

What I meant with number (2) refers to the grey box behind the champions' portrait/hands/health bar area at the top of the screen. Is it possible for each of those grey boxes to be different graphics, and for the graphics to fill up the black areas in between, so that it appears that the champion pa...

Black Flame 'negative' damage

I have just checked this in Amiga CSB and PC DM using DMute, and discovered that the behaviour is <b> <i> the same</i></b> in both DM and CSB. The reason I hadn't noticed before is that when I compiled the damage chart from PC DM, I had set all the creatures to have 1000 HP. Guess what.... the DM en...

Re: Killing ghosts with fireballs (0.12)

Yup, it does seem silly that they take damage in DM.... I agree with you George and beowuuf. What about black flames absorbing fireballs though - I haven't played that far yet, so can't tell if it's been implemented... In DM, they absorbed fireballs and that was it - nothing else. However, in the CS...

Re: Faders can be hit when not attacking

I just took a look at this and we're all wrong:

1) des ew and vorpal do damage regardless of the state the materialiser is in!
2) All other spells and objects travel straight through, regardless of whether it's materialised or not.
3) It can only attack when fully materialised.

Questions about graphics formats and restrictions

I've been thinking a little about a future project involving re-designing the interface for RTC, and have a few questions. 1) I know that you previously said that interface graphics can be replaced, but that their positions couldn't change. Will this be possible in the final version? 2) Can graphic ...

I agree, Amaprotu. It's great that you have all this enthusiasm Rick, and it's well merited. For a different project with a different objective, what you suggest would be well received. However, if you read the manual that ships with version twelve (or indeed the RTC pages on Raging Mole), you'll se...

Re: Monster differences (v0.11)

Yup - basically built a dungeon with 5 of each creature in stasis, then played through several times, each time lobbing the same strength spell at each creature. Afterwards, I then went through with DMute to see the damage inflicted... it took quite some time. I used 5 of each creature to get a reas...
