Re: Final call for suggestions...
I just thought of something that could be really cool.... Could hero activation be tied to a switch/button? Such that choosing a hero flips the switch i mean? This way you could have some rooms that only open if you choose the right party member etc. This thought came to me as I was reading the 'ran...

Re: this sucks
For all companies there is a (unfortunatly secret) code phrase you can say to get good tech support. (Seriously, don't stop reading, i'm not joking.) For example, I use AT&T's @home cable internet service. If I call up and try to get help, they transfer me to a kindergartner, if hes in that day....

Re: it's not too good..
Hm I really am just guesssing here, but I do remember that for 3d support the voodoo cards didn't support anything above 16bit color (except for the last of the line). I also thought some of them had poor directx support. Has anyone else gotten RTC to run on a voodoo card (that doesn't do 32 or 24bi...

Re: am I working this right?
it only needs directx 3 and no java. If you have version .12 that should be all you need. If its not running it is a system problem, which needs to be figured out.

Re: MEMORY in RTC = CATASTROPHIC
ACK! George got rid of the "(not so) frequently asked questions" section! No wonder your having difficulty here... ok this is my recap of the pertinant section: DM: 4 bit color (16 colors) 320*200 RTC: 24 bit color (16.7million colors) (640*400 This alone means each screen has either 12 ti...

Re: WHAT THE HELL is prescaling ???
I am sure that what prescaling is has been discussed in another thread, but as must be obvious by now I'm way too lazy to go look for it. Basically (if I recall correctly) most everything in the dungeon (items and monsters) are only drawn to one scale (one square away). Things must then be scaled so...

Moria? And basically the whole reason I initially brought up the idea was that I thought it might be fun to try and create it.... just to see if I could really. Re: moo moo..
I could be wrong but I think George said something about levels below and above being active... or did he say they weren't? I can't remember, and don't have the patience to look for it. You are correct, I was thinking about prescaling only in terms of those playing completed dungeons. I really don't...

Re: Save prescaled cache
Um George can you please let us edit our own posts? I meant in that last line, that the advantage gained might be enough to make it worth the cost of writing to disk as well, and also that reading it from *disk* might negate some of the advantage of having it prescaled. However now that I think abou...

Re: Save prescaled cache
actually when the stuff is prescaled it is then written to memory prescaled, it should be possible without too much extra work to write it to a disk file at the same time, and load from a disk file if it exists. It might make it take a little longer to do the initial prescale but subsequent ones sho...

Re: Save prescaled cache
That is a good idea I dont' think was previously mentioned. As long as the dungeon being played was the last dungeon.... Perhaps best would be three options saveprescale=no saveprescale=last (save the prescale file for the last played dungeon, overwrites it if a new dungeon is played) saveprescale=a...

Re: Final call for suggestions...
Back to the topic: I would like the ability to have the following George: Pressure pads that are only trigered when the dungeon is entered at a certain difficulty level. Pressure pads that randomly work or don't. Ideally if it is a hit once pad (those exist right? in some roundabout form at least?) ...

Re: uhm..
The actual theory behind it would be similar in structure to how Diablo is random: Basically you would have human made puzzles and rooms of varying difficulty (a difficulty setting for each level). So you have say 5 puzzles for each difficutly level. The generator knows how to connect puzzles to roo...

Re: Back to the Entrance
Be ready to go back to having virtual memory on. I have 256 megs in my computer and some of the games I play will not run with it turned off. Re: more than a suggestion, a question to George
the problem would be graphics - you would have to design a new set of textures for each engine...but once the code is released i suppose a RTC clone (hehehehe) could be started lol

Re: movement
This is a real time role playing game. While it would be nice for the world to speed up to your typing speed that would take away from the real time aspect. If you want to run faster carry less and work up your stamina and strength. Aside from that, if keystrokes can be queued that would be great. E...

Re: HOW CAN WE HELP GEORGE in the game programming?
This has been brought up before. This is George's pet project. He does not wish to release the source code in any manner now or in the foreseeable future. With a program this small the amount of discussion and help you are offering is really over kill. By the time George adequitly explaines the grap...

Interface Differences
I beleive the original problem was that it was queing key strokes way too fast, hitting a key hard could send you ahead two or three paces. The solution George used was to cut out key cacheing all together, you can't do anything unitl the current key press action is done. I would like to see some fo...

[Done for V0.38] Blasting through walls
It would be nice if pads (siwtches?) could be triggered by specific spells. With this you could create the effect of blasting through a wall or destroying parts of the actual dungeon with excessive fireball usage. Thinking about it fireball is really about the only spell that should be able to destr...

Re: Different textures for objects
My ignorance showing again but why are teleporters and stairs even different? If you could have a teleporter with any graphic it seems you wouldn't even need stairs as a seperate object type, it would just be a transporter that connected either one square above or one square below. Or are transporte...

Re: Crash on importing (v0.11)
The inverse stamina and damage loss sounds like your using too small a memory space for the large amounts of damage / stamina being dealt with at extremely high difficulty levels. I recently did the same to a poker game, I bet too much money, won and had -1000 dollars =p.

Mana Regen (again)
priority: extremely very low
Casters with very low mana (6 ot 7) still regain their mana too slow. In the original DM (er for the PC at least) characters with really low mana regain all their mana in about half the time characters with more mana do. Right now in RTC it takes about the same.
