Re: Trying An Old One

I tend to use weapons more often early on, until I get my Wizard levels high enough that I can reliably Fireball most things without constantly running out of mana/failing the spell. then I basically do that all the time unless I need to use Harm Non-Material Being instead. I'll sometimes practice a...

Re: Trying An Old One

Oof yeah, Tiggy is the squishiest chaarcter - she has the lowest physical stats but is stronger in the magic department. It sounds like you're around the Rat Room near the end of Level Nine - that's a common spot for players to go back to once you've opened the Central Stairwell, since you have that...

Re: Trying An Old One

Hiya, welcome to the forum and to DM in general. It's basically like a "tutorial mode" for the next game, Chaos Strikes Back, so go and play that once you're done with this one. You'll spedn most of your time wandering around cluelessly as you die for the twentieth time but don't worry, we...

No, haven't played that one. Never played BG2 either actually, though we did own it. Played the original somewhat and also finished Icewind Dale several times but that's about it for the Infinity Engine games for me. Well, I don't suppose BG3 uses the Infinity Engine any more, or maybe it does.

Re: Where in the world has Cows been?

Eighty messages a day is "too much"? Ouch, one of the Discords I'm in has a channel that can easily do a couple of hundred messages in an hour or two when it's really busy :D. Not that I really bother to read that channel anyway - too busy ;). The DM Discord server very rarely has any mess...

Re: I'm done with big main-stream games

Yeah, little indy games you can get for a tenner or whatever can be sooo much better and more playable than some fancy-looking big-company thing that costs some stupid amount like fifty quid or whatever. I mean, I have about 750 hours in Caveblazers and that's only £6.99 when it's full price (there ...

Re: Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Well, I suppose it's just a matter of waiting. So many games have ended up not being made despite it looking in good in the early days - learnt my lesson with Godus, there. If anything happens with Pantheon I expect I'll learn about it in the EQC Discord and may consider looking into it further if i...

Re: Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Yeah, I heard about it some years ago. I don't even know if it's being developed any more, especially with Brad's death (which itself was at least a couple of years ago now, pre-Covid I'm pretty sure). Haven't really seen it mentioned much for a while in the EQ Discord I'm a member of. Still hoping ...

Re: Back at it again

I don't think I've ever been in that little room - I know the one you mean as it's on the map but I can never be arsed to go all the way over there past all the demons and stuff - I'd rather hang around in the corner of the room near the entrance and not worry about most of that big ol' space full o...

Re: Back at it again

Yeah, my method is to cast fluxcages around myself (or if I'm by a wall I can skip that one), refreshing them every few seconds, then back up when Lord Chaos comes walking toward me - he doesn't seem to cast spells when there's a fluxcage in the way (unless he's in the middle and you're too slow to ...

Re: Back at it again

Woo, gratz on the win :). My preferred spot to trap Chaos is inside the main room, off to the right from the entrance, near the corner - I think I normally use one wall as part of the trap so only need to cast three fluxcages, then just stand there refreshing them until he comes over, then step back...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original DM?

Stonekeep didn't so much have "stuffing things into your backpack" as "stuffing them into your magic scroll that turned items into pictures until you wanted to use them" :D. I quite liked how the magic system worked, with you finding runestaves and needing to carve the runes on t...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original DM?

Did you ever play Stonekeep? PC game from something like 1994 (give or take a year). That had a clear story and a bunch of NPCs you could meet, many of which were potential party members (though you as a player didn't really get to choose whether they joined or not - if they asked and you had space,...

And the first Legend of Grimrock, though I never played it. Did you ever play Stonekeep? A grid-based dungeon-crawler a bit like DM bu...

Re: I'm done with big main-stream games

I've had my current computer since 2014, I think. It's rather slow these days but still does the job - I can still play the games I want even if some of them take a minute or two to load...like Ark, which I've been "excessively playing" too, by some strange coincidence, with some random In...

Or you can just play the DM version of DM, which is included with RTC along with the RTC version and doesn't have the RTC-specific spellbook mechanic. Note that RTC (spellbook version and non-spellbook version) was built from scratch and is a close approximation of the original DM, so some other thi...

Re: Should a fullscreen Automap also pause the game?

Yeah, automapping feels kind of cheaty in games like DM/CSB where learning your way around the place (especially in the case of CSB, with all its secret teleporters) is part of the inherent puzzle of the dungeon in the first place. I don't mind it in other games, say ARPGs (like the Diablo series, T...

Re: Should a fullscreen Automap also pause the game?

This being DM, it should work the same way as your inventory screen and definitely not pause anything, I would say. Lots of games have an in-game map (whether it's like a UI overlay thing/separate screen or a more immersive your-character-hold-an-actual-map thing) without it pausing stuff. Would fee...

Re: A little teaser...

Yeah I think a new dungeon seems like it woud be more worth the effort than yet another remake of the existing DM dungeon. We know that one already, after all, and personally the fanciness of the graphics has never been a reason for me to play a game. If it looks pretty, that's a bonus but otherwise...

Re: Which route do you start first ?

There have been speed runs of both DM and CSb and in the case of the latter the record is something like nine minutes, by the forum user "Rain". There's a video of it somewhere, I'm pretty sure. I can't recall if they also hold the DM speed recoord but that's something like 18 minutes sinc...

It's perfectly possible to finish both games without bothering to really stop and train anywhere, also using no potions at all - I can't be arsed with that :D. I use just two characters and I picked them mainly because they look cool (no boring-looking human types :D) and also Hissssa at least has t...

My usual "group" these days is just a pair - reincarnated (and therefore renamed) Hissssa and Wuuf. After I've picked them up and headed down to Level Two, I refuse to move from the bottom of the stairs until I've maxed the light level (and I also refuse to use physical torches since they ...

Re: A question on DM2

CSBWin uses the Atari version of DM/CSB. DM2 came out on PC, not Atari, so that's probably why it's not available through CSBWin.
