adge can be quite intensive, especialyl if you are doing graphical stuff

I'm still surprised you are even able to use XP with 96Mb. Have you turned off every XP graphic yet? Also, dont' run winamp or other stuff while using adge, see if it helps

Sorry, but I think it's dumb to run XP on such a low spec machine, you'd be much better off sticking with 98 for better performance gains. XP simply was not designed for old legacy machines and really is too much of a resource hog, even with all unnecessary stuff turned off.

I'm surprised you can tolerate it!

thanx Paul, but better sell it on e-bay or smth for a cheap, buy 50 cans of iced coffee or Red Bulls and finish your dungeon ;) at least I do that when working in CSBwin (normally, after few hours I`m getting tired).

That would also explain the RTC frame rate problem that only you were having too...

do you think that`ll help a lot? I could do it, but I have to be 100% sure that all the programs I use will work! (CSBwin, RTC, ADGE, GIMP, winamp, videos, communicators and a CD-burner.. and .. hmm , that`s all I use!)

To get XP to even load, Microsoft recommend a minimum specification of PII 300 MHz 128 MB (and even then, they point out that some features don't work with such a low specification).

However, if you have a look on the internet (say, Google for Windows XP Minimum Specification) you'll see everyone else recommends a much higher specification to be able to usefully use it! Typical values are PIII 600-800 MHz with 256 MB RAM...

Yep, it's the RAM that's the killer. 256MB minimum for XP in my experience.

(Which incidentally I think is criminal for an OS, but hey, this is Microsoft)

hi adamo.

plz clarify your situation/procedure to encounter 'out of memory' error.

2 possibilities for your problem on my thought:

a) really out of memory
b) graphics data is partially corrupted

dat may be damaged if you always encounter that error in same situation (e.g. it always raises error when i open screamer's image).

i can test your dat file if you would not mind to send graphics data to me.
i can chase reason of error if i can reproduce your encountered problem on my PC. (i'll run ADGE on VB debug mode. it helps me to detect error position in source code.)

i'll send pm for you about emailing procedure.

thanks.

I'd say... 512 MB for smooth operation... with 256MB I had to keep a 400MB pagefile.

ADGE has decided not to work on my new computer. I get the runtime error 7 too, 'out of memory'.

Running XP, Celeron 2.6GHz, 512MB RAM.

This has put a big dent in my plans for a CSBWin release!

ok, I have changed the windows version (98 instead of XP to save memory for ADGE), but I still have that nasty "run-time error 7 - out of memory", when I`m trying to run it. I`ve got required files in system folder (such as MSVBVM60.DLL, mscomctl.ocx and COMDLG32.OCX).
I have closed all other applications, winamps etc when was trying to run ADGE, but there is still that bug.
I tried:
-ADGE v0.1b
-ADGE v0.2b2
-ADGE v0.2b1 Candy1
-ADGE v0.2b Candy1fix1
-ADGE v0.2b1
-ADGE v0.4b
There`s out of memory in all of these versions.

It`s very strange, because I though 98 has lower requirements than XP (I`ve got PII 300 Mhz 96 Mb). In good old days ADGEs were running without problems even on my XP (on the same machine: PII 300/96) with a lot of other applications opened, such as winamps, gimps etc.

Now I`ve got a big problem to complete my custom.

The trouble with 98 is that it's internal resources are fixed to some stupidly low number, so although it runs with much less system requirements itself, it is not good at handling modern resource requiring programmes - it will eventaully run out, even though your CPU/memory might be happy to handle everything!

So for example I have seen my old company's old pentium with win98 die just from running Norton IS and IE6, that used to run fine.

There could still be a non-resource reason for it not working, so I will let others advice you better.

modern resource requiring programmes
In more down-to-earth language:

"modern resource hogging programs"

Another possibility is that the program itself is
leaking resources and WinXP is better at guessing
which are not actually being used anymore. I have
seen some versions of windows recycle resources
that are actually still in use!!!!!!! In an attempt to
satisfy new requests. It makes it appear that the
program is working properly when, in fact, it is not.

ALL RIGHT, ADGE WORKS NOW!!!
I just had to delete fm20.dll file from my system folder and install "Microsoft ActiveX Control Pad" properly, which is needed for this program.
Now I can run all ADGE versions ! :D
