Animated Gifs

Post by Milna »

Hey guys. I'm using DMJEditor and I'm looking to use some custom items from older versions of Dungeon Master like the Tech Armor, Flame Armor, and things like that.

I'm taking the graphics from the DM Encyclopaedia. The graphics on the page are animated, but they are too small. When I try to resize them using my editor (Corel Paint Shop Pro) and then save them again, the gifs no longer animate.

Is there a way to keep the animations, or does anyone already have these images they could send me?

Thanks,

-Mike

The best way would be to get into the original game using some of the utils available.
An alternative, and the way I usually do it, is to install RTC, and grab the graphics straight out of that. Orig DM and DMII are bundled in there too.

They sometimes still require a little resizing, but it doesn't take much time just to nip them into imageready.

If neither option is appealing, I'll get the graphics and resize them for you.

Thanks, Kelly.

I'm willing to put the work in myself because I'm interested in learning how to do it.

I've installed RTC. What's a good untility for getting the actual images from the DAT files- I'm assuming thats where they are coded.

Run RTCEditor.exe. Go to File -> New, then Resources -> Add/Replace Graphics. Finally, click on Tab "1 scaling (small)" and choose what bitmap you need into the list.
Then, you can press "Alt+Print Screen" to copy the whole window into the clipboard.
Paste it on any other painting program.

When I do that, though, I'm losing the animations. How do I keep them?

Thanks guys!

Ulead worked perfectly, and I was also able to rip a ton of floor graphics from RTC thanks to your help!
