Lions, and pumpkins and Christians.. oh my!

Interesting that he would call a Catholic holliday like All hallows Eve a pegan satanic ritual.. I guess he did a LOT of research before opening his big yap.

Trick or treat was begging for shortbread cakes they called Soul Cake in return those recipients of the cakes would agree to say a prayer for the givers dead loved ones.

The act of wearing costumes was done by the french who would dress as their dead loved ones or as lost souls on this dark day before All saints day as a way to deal with the fear of death.

The pumpkin.. well it's an irish legend to do with some one named jack.. and has more to do with Turnips orriginaly rather than pumpkins but I'll let you look that up for yourself.

I also especially like the part where he talks about how great it is they are comming to his door so he can "save" them.. please.. :P

yeah, i get the redirect too

it always facinates me the origins of the holidays and sacred days we take for granted

for example, i heard mother's day was actually a servant holiday, for them to visit their mother church (ie go back home for the sunday service there)

Depends on what you read! I was always brought up to believe the same story about Mothering Sunday, but others argue it started way earlier in ancient Greece.

Of course, then there's Father's day, Grandparents day, Valentines Day, and um, My Bellybutton Collects Fluff day.

The cyncic in me would rather believe these things are simply monopolies by card companies for the over sentimental. (Needless to say that I don't get on with my mum!)

As for Halloween, Wikipedia is a good source for those who can't follow Cow's link:

oh this my link is horrible.. it's to some christian extremeist site talking about how you can save all the satanic children from firey doom when they come to your door bearing bags. It suggests you can give them bible tracts. Or write psalms on the inside of the wrappers of the candy (just what I want MY kid to eat.. tampered with candy from some koo koo)

I'll see if I can rip it and post it

i'd rather psalms than razor blades! I was scared to learn that people being worried about their kids accepting non-wrapeed candies wasn't weird paranoia

I think this site is probably a piss-take on how stuipd some Christian thingys are (especially the Bible), or how stupid they could be if taken REALLY seriously...but if it's a serious site, then...omg
