I've had this game well over a quarter of a century, almost 30 years and yet I can't believe this thought never occurred to me.
When you jab or cleave (and possibly disrupt) with the Vorpal Blade, shouldn't it make a "snicker-snack" sound instead of the standard "shwoot" sound used by almost every weapon in the game?
The embarrassing thing is, I know I read a certain Lewis Carroll poem in 5th grade, the same year I got Dungeon Master. Although I think I read the poem in the fall, and didn't get DM until my birthday in February. Yet I never connected it until now.
Vorpal blade sounds.

They mismatched even more things... we have a red dragon and no jabberwock. We have screamers and no Tulgey woods. And why did they place rusters instead of Jabjab birds?
What are the bells that never ring? Enchanting smell, beautiful thing.
What are the lions that never roar? The wind blows their children far over the shore.
What are the gloves not worn by the hand? But worn by the foxes throughout the land.

Lol...I think maybe it's just a coincidence? Or did Lewis Carroll actually invent the term "vorpal blade" for his poem?

It was invented for the poem, and FTL pinched it.

It's interesting to read about the origins. vorpal is a pretty cool word.Gambit37 wrote:It was invented for the poem, and FTL pinched it.

Plus the dragon isn't even a dragon really is it, it's a giant lizard or a dinosaur. It doesn't have any wings!

Yeah, he's more of a wyrm than a dragon, unless your definition of a wyrm is "huge serpentine creature with legs" rather than simply "wingless dragon" - these things vary, after all...
