As far as I can remember there are only a couple of parts of the game affected by this - as I understand it, CSBWin was a port of CSB first (hence the name), and was then modified slightly to work with DM too. From what I remember, when rezzing a dead party member in CSB their max health is permanently decreased slightly, which wasn't the case in DM. I think possibly some stat changes occur when Rezzing/Reincarnating party members in the first place, from their mirrors? Not sure. Anyway, "DM Rules" disables this stuff as it wasn't in the original game.

It makes no difference because no player ever use Vi altars.

There is no difference between DM and CSB when reviving dead champions at Vi altars.
The only difference is when using 'Reincarnate' in the DM Hall of champions / CSB Prison (where you add champions to your party), as described by Paul's diagram.

I do, now and then, expecially in the first levels where I tend to almost not save at all

I noticed something strange.
When I play CSB with CSBwin, everythings works normal.
But playing DM, my characters don't get levels.
I wondered if I had to switch on DM rules in this situation, but nothing changed.

If your characters fail to gain levels, that is a bug.
Use the latest CSBwin (16.7
http://dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/CSBwin16_7.7z),
record your game, and send it to me.
I will try to fix it..
