Best CSB champion

Post by sucinum »

I can't believe there isn't a discussion about that around. Did I miss it or is that caused by most people transfering DM-heroes? Either way, I'll replay CSB soon enough (on my next train ride with my mobile :D) and I'm not too sure about whom to take. I want to duo it this time, so Str is more of a factor than with a party of four.

Browsing the champion list, I see some interesting champions to take:

Airwing - high stats in everything but the useless Anti-Magic/Fire combined with low levels (so quite a potential); wonder why I never played him
Tunda, Lana - the centaurs both have decent stats all around, I usually preferd the guy
Itza - I almost always have this guy in my CSB-party and he isn't too bad
Petal - awesome stats for a caster, but very low Str
Mantia - seems to a nice spellcaster, but the low HP always made me choose another hero
Lor/Kazai - I could never decide, both have awesome stats and I usually have one of them in my party.

I'm also not too sure whether ressurecting or reincarnating gives better stats. Training is no issue for me, will wander around long enough anyways.

I think it's probably buried in a CSB discussion. I am partial to Aroc (on his own). I liked his general stats, good mana, nicely balanced glass distribution.

You know I always had trouble chosing characters in this game. Could never settle on a party :\

"Favorite" isn't really the same as "best", as the discussion clearly shows. ;)
Not that "best" would be explicit, but at least we can agree on things like "Str is more important than Anti-Fire". ;)

I can say who I thought was the most annoying champion..

Plague!!
He had really good health and mana stats, but the only problem with him was that I couldn't walk 5 steps without him complaining about his hunger problem...
I could't understand fully then, but now I guess that it has to do with his high wisdom and low stamina and vitality..

I don't want to start an anti-female group, because I'd miss Ameena's "Awwww, cute."

Plague, while really annoying in the beginning could be one of the best champions on the long run.
It all depends on playing style and whether or not you play with one, two or all four champions.
For a solo run, probably someone with more strength would be better..

@Jan: Traitor ;)
@zoom: I agree, SHE is good champion! I thought she was one of the best even in the beginning, because when I was fightning the stamina didn't matter that much as long as it was full in the beginning of the battle.. But even in the long run with several champions in the party she was annoying, she was always the one dragging the rest of the party behind because she always had lesser stamina etc. than the other partymembers.

the drop in stamina could result in her having much more mana and you not timing the spells of her correctly, i.e. casting on and on without halt which dries her out.
Spellcasters will be trouble if you will use their spells too much !!
A remedy could be to always keep 2/3rds of total mana until they get better in all levels.. I don´t know.

Quite cool how dm constitutes spellcasters..

High wisdom or mana does lead to a fast increase in mana rate.

high mana- what were the steps again? 16, 48 mana and so on where you had an increase in mana regeneration rate (mrr)?

So you could decide what would be best to equip the party with- do I give the mage this staff to get him the necessary points to increase his / her mana regen or do I give him the staff that has a cool action, but not as much mana bonus?

All champions in DM can be redeemed one way or another but there are some in CSB who definitely have little to save them... I think Talon still ranks as the all time worst character: 5 stats under 40, one of the lowest mana levels of all characters, pretty standard skills if ressurected... You would struggle soloing CSB with this guy !

How about you guys ? Who's your worst/best CSB only character ?

I rarely use the CSB champions because I don't like their portraits - I usually import my DM champion. But if I "have to" make a solo run with a CSB character, I take Toadrot. Don't ask me why, though - sometimes I behave quite randomly. Maybe it's because he's so ugly that I feel a pity (or a mutual understanding? ).

Toadrot ? Yeah that's quite random  I thought nobody could beat the sexyness of Skelar though !

I think DM veterans have tended to be nostalgic of their original characters and readily imported them for the sake of progression from the original story.
But it is a prison after all so no wonder some of them have a little bit of the anti-hero look to them !

And they're also all naked so starting weapons and equipment are no longer a consideration in the choice either.

The first champion I met. Quite adequate.

I still think we need a "Worst Champion" competition.
I suggested this long ago but nobody responded.

So Toadrot can't be that bad after all! :D
Paul Stevens wrote:The first champion I met.
Well, yeah, given the position of Toadrot in the prison, it's quite likely that he was my first-champion-ever too, although I don't remember.

Oh I'm so up for that

What would be the criteria though ? I mean, there are so many ways a character can fail in CSB !
