Executioner Door

Post by Antman »

According to CSBuild, the door at 11, 31, 08 is chop-able, but in CSWin this does not seem to be the case. I thought breaking doors was based on level, but maybe strength is a factor or something else, but even with my high master level character virtually OD'ing on strength potions it still seemed unbreakable. Just wondering if anyone (most likely Paul) knows if it is actually breakable?

I looked around and found a door at 08(11,31). Is that the one
you mean?

In any case, send me a copy of your saved game. I'll check it out.

I think this door should not be breakable - I mean, that's the whole point of the place, that you might get trapped there, plus there's a tiny switch on a wall that should open it, so, logically, it seems to me that the player is not supposed to be able to break this door down. I think  .

Yes that's the door I meant. Sorry, not sure what I was thinking when I wrote out those co-ordinates. Game sent.

I believe the little switch you mentioned only works in the Amiga version of the game and is broken in the Atari version, which CSBWin is based on. But logically, yes, it may too easy if a player can just grab the weapon and bash the door to escape...

I think Paul fixed the switch in the latest CSBWin version - or at least I remember we discussed it a year or so ago.

I got your savegame and investigated.

That door requires a force of 110 to bash.

It appears that the code limits any physical force to a maximum
of 100. So it will make no difference how strong your
champion might be.

Strange. Are there any iron doors that can be opened
with an ax? if so, it would be interesting to see how it
is done.

The Solid Iron door at 0(27,24) is marked as open with Ax and
open with Fireball. However, that door requires a force of
230 to open. The Ax is limited to 100 and the largest Fireball
only supplies about 185. I doubt that it can be opened by force.

Hmmm, I don't think I know of any of those type of doors (Iron Bars Door) that can actually be opened via axe. The Iron Bars Doors in the Oitu nest in DAIN are meant to be bash-able also but don't seem to be able to be, although they can be blown open.

So individual doors don't have their own required force to bash but this is based solely on the type of door? Can these values be seen in CSBuild?

The other interesting door I mentioned was the one at 00, (27, 24) which a Solid Iron Door, I guess these also have a required force above 100. And have their required blast level above some maximum value also as that door can't be blasted open it seems.

No. They are a part of the Graphics.dat file.

According to the encyclopaedia, they are defined in item 559 of the
graphics.dat file.

Whoops, hadn't seen your previous post before I made mine. Thanks for the info/investigation :) I won't spend my time trying to bust those doors...
