Yes, I know.
But with CBSwin (original not translate).
I kill all the mummies. Door is always closed or door is open... But not "Lor" portrait!... It is normal?
So, I going kill all Rock pile... Door is open with "Kazai" portrait... I can engage "Kazai". It is normal? BUT, if I come back for engage "Lor". Door is always closed.
I can have the team I want by engaging "16. Slogar Webber Of Arachnia" (or one other)only. (See the screenshot)

Image

And we can not change name with new CSBwin16_xx.
It is a shame because it was a good function. (See the screenshot)

Slogar Webber Of Arachnia" seulement. (Voir la capture d'écran)
Et on ne peut plus changer de nom avec les nouveaux CSBwin16_xx.
C'est dommage, car c'était une bonne fonction. (Voir la capture d'écran)

What a pleasure to play in French...
But I still made a mistake in writing:
line 401: "TRUST ME\nENTER THE PIT" or (TRUST ME...\nENTER THE PIT) "FAIS-MOI\nCONFIANCE\nENTRE\nDANS LA FOSSE"
I tried with the signs "\ n" and "/"... Error is still there. I respected the length of sentence (14 letters).

PS:
There is a cheat for my champions to be invincible?

ine 401: "TRUST ME\nENTER THE PIT" or (TRUST ME...\nENTER THE PIT) "FAIS-MOI\nCONFIANCE\nENTRE\nDANS LA FOSSE"
You should try;

invincible
Not that I know of.

I tried that version (still can't get it working on Win7, but it's fine on Win10); about the translation as Christophe suggested you may reuse the official translation from the multilanguage Amiga version.
That makes me wonder about the translated graphics assets : @Paul wouldn't be easier to use a located version of graphics.dat then select the correct one at the beginning ? like having graphics_fr.dat and graphics_de.dat built from the ML v3.3 Amiga version ?
I like how DM2 handle this within its graphics.dat format where items have a language code allowing for 16 different languages for every of them.
And why not renaming the exe "CCA pour Fenêtres" ;-)

@Paul wouldn't be easier to use a located version of graphics.dat
That would be great. But I was not presented with another
graphics.dat. I have no way of generating a different graphics.dat
for Spanish, French, Russian, Greek, or any other language. If someone
would provide a graphics.dat that they would like to use, I would be
happy to arrange for CSBWin to use it. (There really should be no need
for any 'arrangement......simply name the file "graphics.dat".)
can't get it working on Win7
What goes wrong? Perhaps I could provide a debug version to help
determine the problem. The program is created using Windows Vista
and an old version of Microsoft Visual Studio
because otherwise there were 'backward' compatibility problems.
I did not expect 'forward' compatibility problems. Most old programs
run just fine on Windows 7 and 10.

You would still need different executables for different languages to account for coordinates to display texts of different lengths.
Also, you need to print some strings in the correct order according to language like:
PAUL'S BONES
OS DE PAUL

coordinates to display texts of different lengths.
In some cases this is determined at run-time. I know that I
modified CSBwin to center some texts depending on their
length. I think this is a solvable problem.
correct order according to language like
Indeed. I cannot think of any simple solution to this problem.
I'm open to ideas.

What goes wrong?
Actually it works now. It was the antivirus preventing it to start, but that was not clear because I scanned and gave permission to the exe ...
If someone would provide a graphics.dat
With a few days, I could do that. Any latin-alphabet language could be integrated, I have somewhere translations for spanish and italian.
Indeed. I cannot think of any simple solution to this problem.
DM2 solves this with a marker which is replaced at runtime by the corresponding variable.
i.e : "Z01' BONES" vs "OS DE Z01' where Z01 is replaced by Champion's name (using item value as ID for champion)

There are these signs "%s" and "%d" in the games that I translated.
For example:
"Well, here we are, buddy. That'll be $%d.00."//"On y est, patron. Ca fera %d $." (%d is a number)
The penthouse elevator doors glide %s."//"Les portes sont %s." (%d is a word)
I do not know if it is possible for "Chaos Strikes Back".

I do not know if it is possible for "Chaos Strikes Back"
Of course it is possible. And it is done this way in several places.
BUT-----My executable must be compatible with existing versions
of 'graphics.dat'. That, too, is possible. But it would require some
sort of 'escape' sequence that triggers the user formatting. That, too,
is possible and, perhaps, even reasonable. For example, the engine
could scan any text for the character '%' and switch gears if any such
character is found. The method of DM2 (Z01) is also a possibility although
I would need more convincing that it is a good idea for CSBwin.

If you find any instances where such a technique is necessary, I will
work with you to implement it.

Re: Translation: Chaos Strikes Back

there is:
"XXXXBONES" ("TOADROTBONES => OS DE TOADROT" for example)
I did not find the second "xxxxBONES" in "source code" files.
I think there is twice the words "BONES". Because I translated one of these words:
330 "BONES" "SQUELETTE" // good
(See screenshot)

Image

There is this for example:
PATRON GUERRIER ==> GUERRIER PATRON
ADEPTE NINJA ==> NINJA ADEPTE
EXPERT MAGE ==> MAGE EXPERT
MAITRE X DRUIDE ==> DRUIDE MAITRE X
(See screenshot)

Image

It is less important. Because it is a Little detail.

I found English words:
403 "PROVE YOU ARE A WIZARD." "PROUVE QUE TU ES UN DRUIDE." // no good
408 "BRIDGE" "PONT" // no good
(See screenshot)

Image

It is not written on walls.

The "%s" / "%d" (C style) work with parameters which somehow the engine must associate to the corresponding string. You would then have some ID for each string in order to know when to bind specific parameters to strings.
To go further with DM2 method, you may have a look at the function FORMAT_SKSTR in SkWin code.
Precisely, the escape code is ".Z", then comes a 3 digit number, allowing for different markers from ".Z000" to ".Z999" which are then replaced accordingly by the general format string function FORMAT_SKSTR.
.Z007 is for the index of champions' bones (which then allow finding champion's name)
.Z010 is for item weight
.Z022 is for directory of savegames
.Z024 is for the local language letter (E = English, F = French, G = German) that can build localized filepath/filename
etc ..
And its recursive so .Z520 could be translated to ".Z469" that will be in turn translated to something else. That allows combination of strings.

----

Why PRIEST/WIZARD are inverted as MAGE/DRUIDE ?

"IT COMES UP HEADS" "CA VIENT DE DEVANT"
"IT COMES UP TAILS" "CA VIENT DE DERRIERE"
=> C'est "pile" ou "face"

Re: Champion's bones.

A champion's name may contain 7 characters. Make sure that whatever
translation you provide for 'BONES' has 6 or fewer characters or the text
will lost (or will wrap around to the other side of the screen or overlap
the graphic).

"SQUELETTE" is too long.

Also, the translation of 'BONES' is used in two circumstances:
1) A champion's bones "TOADROT BONES"
2) Non-champion bones "BONES"
So the translation must be suitable to both. Perhaps a simple "DES OS".

I will have a new version of CSBwin that translates 'BONES"in a little while.

I do not like these words "PRETRE" and "SORCIER" (it is the dark side, while "MAGE" and "DRUIDE" is the light side.)
"IT COMES UP HEADS" "CA VIENT DE DEVANT"
"IT COMES UP TAILS" "CA VIENT DE DERRIERE"
=> C'est "pile" ou "face"
Yes, I know it now ... But I did not know it before playing the game.
I am an amateur translator, sorry. I do not know English like French. :lol:

It is too technical for me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found this.
Wall words:
387 "GIVE UPx\nPULL THE\nLEVER" "RAS LE BOL ?\nTIRE SUR\nLE LEVIER" // no good

Scroll:
461 "GRYNIN\n\nERNUM QU" "GRYNIN\n\nERNUM QU" //??? I do not understand

I sending you these files:
"Translation.txt". I added texts and corrected (fixed).
"graphics.dat" and "dungeon.dat". Renovated and modified.

Image

I think simplest. It is to make a version for each language.
English (of course), Deutsch, Italian, Spanish, French, etc.
Because there are three files to translate:
For texts:
"Translation.txt".
Graphics :
Download "Tool-ADGE.net_.bin_.20090308.rar".
Open "graphics.dat" file. (game folder)
List of files to translate:
1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 27, 30, 31, 32, 40.
Champions and 1 text:
Download "Tool-CSBuild251.zip".
Open "dungeon.dat" file. (game folder)
Champion name ==> 19 octets 'max'.

And CSBWin.exe work for each version. (Unless I am mistaken.)
I do not know anything about computers. If I said a stupidity. I am sorry.

This is only my opinion (suggestion).

Yes, but "BONES" that I translated (330 "BONES" "SQUELETTE" ). It is not used for champions.
I thought there was another "BONES" for the champions. Which I wanted to translate by: "OS DE".
I will think to find a word for both (champion and unknown).

2) For Champions:
Line: xxx "%sBONES" "OS DE %s" (%s == Champion name)[\quote]

Well, OK....I guess. Here is what I will do :

If there is a translation specified for "%BONES" then I will use
it and substitute the champion name for '%'.

SO:
"%BONES" "OS DE %%"
will result in:
OS DE TOADROTTOADROT

It is just a question, please.
I had a little "problem" with:
375 "FIGHTERS\nCHARGE" "LA CHARGE\nDES COMBATTANTS"
457 "FIGHTER\nCHARGE" "COMBATTANTS\nCHARGEZ"
These texts were for wall and scroll. I only had that line 375 and scroll was translated, not wall text. I tried to understand why wall text remained in English. And I saw that there is no "S" to "FIGHTER".
I added this line 457. Wall text was in French (It is good).
There are twice the word "BONES" in French version. As on the screenshot that I made from game we translate.

Image

It is possible to do as "FIGHTERS\nCHARGE" "FIGHTER\nCHARGE"?
Thanks.

Phenomenal!!! It is amazing! You solve problems very quickly. I flabbergasted.
I thank you for your help.

I found this.
Wall words:
387 "GIVE UPx\nPULL THE\nLEVER" "RAS LE BOL ?\nTIRE SUR\nLE LEVIER" // no good
Problem on Atari version (or CSBwin)... There is no punctuation and lowercase letters in the font...
Except now with CSBwin17_2?!... There is the dot (.). Strange!!

Scroll:
461 "GRYNIN\n\nERNUM QU" "GRYNIN\n\nERNUM QU"
I do not understand. It is as 379 "GRYNIX\n\nERNUM QUEY KI\nSKEBOW REDNIM\nU OS DEY\nWEFNA ENOCARN\nAQUANTANA"
These texts are for scrolls that replace the "magic card"?

378 "N \nW E \n S C \n B B \n AOC \n\n A" "N \nO E \n S C \n B B \n AOC \n\n A"
I do not understand.
N ==> NORTH
W ==> WEST
S ==> SOUTH
E ==> EAST
C ==> ??? I do not understand.
B ==> ??? I do not understand
B ==> ??? I do not understand
AOC ==> ??? I do not understand
A ==> ??? I do not understand

For the problem "Lor".
My team:
8. Skelar
16. Slogar Webber Of Arachnia
21. Algor Marsh Hunter

I want "23. Lor Champion Of Good" in my team. I kill all mummies. But the door remains closed or the portrait has disappeared. It is not possible to engage"Lor". But I can engage "24. Kazai Shadow Warrior."
It is same with Atari version.
It is a bug?

There are five portraits that cause the Lor door to close.
1) Necro
2) Plague
3) Skelar
4) Deth
5) Kazai

So....I suggest you fetch Lor before fetching any of those five champions.
I believe that most bugs have been removed over the years.

And welcome to Chaos Strikes Back.

I did not know your information.
Dungeon Master was a fantastic game for the time.
I knew Dungeon Master and other games... On Atari. (Except Dungeon Master 2 on PC)
But I do not know if it comes from Steem:
The game is slow, no sound (noise when you hit a wall), etc.
So....I suggest you fetch Lor before fetching any of those five champions.
Yes, I hired "16. Slogar Webber Of Arachnia". Then I hired "8. Skelar" and "21. Algor Marsh Hunter".

Yes I saw this page (not Oracle)... But I wanted to understand English letters for to write same in French.
What does these letters mean in English? It is gibberish?
5) C = What does it mean? What English word?
6) B = What does it mean? What English word?
7) B = What does it mean? What English word?
8 ) A = What does it mean? What English word?
9) O = What does it mean? What English word?
10) C = What does it mean? What English word?
11) A = What does it mean? What English word?

I can not edit (change) these texts as with "GIVE UPx\nPULL THE\nLEVER" (line 386).
I wrote this for these two lines in the file "translation.txt":
377 "N \nW E \n S C \n B B \n AOC \n\n A"
386 "GIVE UPx\nPULL THE\nLEVER"
I made a mistake in these texts... But I do not know where I made my mistake. I wrote what we was told.
These are last two texts to translate.
Thanks.

Two questions, please.
Why I can not modify (change) these lines? Because it is always in English.
377 "N \nW E \n S C \n B B \n AOC \n\n A" "N \nO E \n S C \n B B \n AOC \n\n A" // no good
386 "GIVE UPx\nPULL THE\nLEVER" "RAS LE BOL ?\nTIRE SUR\nLE LEVIER" // no good
I made a writing error?
Thanks.
