How did you capture this music? The quality is very very poor indeed. Is not really worth downloading because it sounds very bad -- lots of noise and strange background sounds.

ok.. here it is.. this is how you capture it.

Go to your record settings. Set it to record the wav out or the aux (seems depending on your card it's one of those) this is the sound comming out of your computer. So in essence what ever you hear from your computer will then be recorded.

Then run an emulator running EOB2 and use the sound recorder. You will get exactly the same quality in as you do out.. no loss.

Hi my friends again.


I have the Eye of the Beholeder in an older computer Installed

In Pentium 2 with Sound Blaster 16 Card.



And after a lot of configuration , because in new Sound Cards it does not playing as well , or have silence or the sound is Worst tha this one I have Record.



In fact I made external Recording , I played the game , I put a 2 channel Wire from the Speaker output of P2's Sound Blaster 16 and I drove the sign in the Microphone in to other one Computer P4 2.7 with on board CMI 7838. Might the mistake is , I used Microphone in and no Line in interface to record the game's sounds. First I had problems with my Sound Card's drivers and I didn't managed to make a recording.



The strainge sound whitch you hear in background are other sound effects in the games.


For example in the intro you here something alike boom bam this booms and bam sound is the thunder sound from the EOB2 intro.


In the finale you here something alike birds , there are birds in outdoor. After the final assault againt to the Darkmoon.

If you hear something like spell is the Appearing and Disappearing of Khelben.


So far I can record the sounds directly from the game , but I try to make better sound. I you don't want the sound which include these external sound , I will capture only Credits.

Creditc have not have any background sounds.
Khelban music , in fron of fire place , but there is little lighting sounds

there are 3 sounds which I can here.

1) Clerics Faces in the entrance of the Darkmoon
2) Calandra
3) Old lady in forrest

I try to correct something but I am not promise something better.


But the Idea is , if someone wants to make better sound capturing , must have 2 computers. One Computer MUST have SOUND BLASTER
16 or 32 otherwise will hear other music because the midi mapper is different and the second computer must have good soundcard for example Audigy , because Audigy , makes hardware correction of sound noices.


If someone wants to use this music , try to use SoundForge programm corrects the sounds as well.

But I will try to correct the music , I will try to find some music Patch for Eob 2


So far download all of these and some time I wil update the newer one and better one.

MMMM very interesting , I have extract many graphics from EOB 2
but how can I extract wall graphics from EOB2


SO I am interested to extract Lands of Lore the thrown of Chaos Wall graphics


Very good Idea is to create a programm similar to DM2Graphics extractor to extract all wall graphics and monster from EOB1 , 2 , 3 and Lands of lore the thrown of chaos.


This is a vary good idea. 8)

GFE (Game File Explorer) Is a program which extract entries from .PAK files from Eye ofthe beholder series and Lands of lore

BUT


There are some entries with extension .SHP


.SHP are binary image files which Westwood uses to store wall graphics

but wall graphics does not extracted as a normal image bmp or png

neither Game File Explore nor Extendable Wad Editor

both programms extract all entries and read the binary and appears the imase only for .CPS files .CMP files

.shp files does not encrypted yet.



I tried to exract graphics from EOB and Lands of Lore but I extact the grpahics with other way.


for example , Eob2 has a file with name

Level5.maz

this file has all map for level5

all .maz file are the maze files from EOB series

the EOB1 has these files in .PAK files stored.


I used the UGE Ultimate Game Editor.

the UGE is a game editor , hex editor like.


I edited all .maz level files and replaced all bites to 00.00.00.00.00.00....
in hex editor.

This means when I load the games some time game was crashed and I tried not deleting all hex bytes I found the level bytes and I started to delete normal bytes.

every 00.00.00.00 four bytes I was delete one square.

Each square has 4 bytes for four sides.

for example 01.02.01.02 means north_side.south_side.east_side.west_side for each square

if you will replace all bytes from 01 to 00 or 20 , you can make an empty
square.


If you will try to change four bytes like this 01.00.00.00 you have only one
side of north wall appear and other sides will not appear.

So you can have one wall to grab it with screen grabber

this is an example to see what I mean.

So with this way I have an empty room with a neat wall , if I try many bytes as 01.00.00.00 or 02.00.00.00 or 03.00.00.00 etc...

I have all graphics wall palette from the game and grab the walls with a
screen grabber.

So I clear all background and I have many neat walls like this:

So if some one wants graphics I have plenty of graphics , I am grabbimg
graphics for this game since 1996 I have 100s of ready grabbed graphics

but now I want to grab from lands of lore easiest than this way because i have to recreate all graphics and take along time.

Hi again!
Takis, seems you are very interested in my work; good!
I know GFE and XWE, but they display only CPS :( - better using XCCMixer, but also this do not display all graphics and animations, only very few WSA and SHP.
So, I have a program to display many SHP from Westwood games (Kyrandia saga, Dune2 and some of Lands of Lore 1),
WSA (animations) and a very experimental display for VCN.
I've discovered that walls images are made of tiles; every tile is 8x8 pixels.
And the .VCN files contains these tiles.
Below is an example picture (click to display the real bitmap of tiles, that's 8x7248 pixels!)

P.S. If you want an high quality music rip from EOB, try to start it in DosBox emulator, then with CTRL-F6 start and stop grabbing the audio from the game or you can play the .ADL files with RDOSPLAY (PagUp and PagDn to scroll the various song in every ADL).

Graphic extact from Eye of the beholder and lands of lore

Hi my friend DK, sorry I took too long to Answer , today I saw the new answer in my topic and
I am here again to discuss about eob and lands of lore graphics extract.


I have one technique to extact graphics manualy but is very very boring technique.


If you have the Ultimate Game Editor Hex editor and with help of Game file explorer (GFE)

You can manage something.


My technique is:


First with GFE I extract the level1.inf level1.maz file from the Eye of the beholder or Lands of Lore.

These files contains map data of the game and graphics index for the game.


extact eye of the beholder files all files.

level1.inf
level1.maz

level2.inf
level2.maz

level3.inf
level3.maz

e.t.c..

open level1.inf with Ultimate Game Editor hex editor (UGE)

and you will see the bytes.

You will find the names of the graphics witch game loads before create the map for game.

For example level1.inf for Eye of the beholder loads the guard1.cps and brown1.cps

if you change these values with other file will load other level and graphics.

Then open level1.maz file if you pass the first 16 bytes and delete all other bytes untill the last 16 bytes you will have an empty level.

Each square have 4 sides each 4 same ascii bytes you have one sqare with wall , in north sounth , east , west.

if you load a game with the first level you will have an empty level.


if you place ascii 001 four bytes and ascii 002 four byte in the row someware in the level1.maz file you will generate a brick wall in one square and brick wall flipped in the second square.

Can you understand what i say.

Make same wall , this is a good Idea for a map editor for EOB and LANDS of lore.

Those examples are for Eye of the beholder 2 , and Lands of lore 1.


The load a screen grabber , the best is screen thief. If you don't Have it I will upload and I post a Url to download it.

Then load the game and stand in front of the wall in all positions wall 1 square near
wall 2 squares far
wall 3 squares far so you can extact all brick wall graphics.

Note: make a backup of file because some times game will crash or memory garbage will appear on screen. :)


The same with lands of lore. But the difficult part is you must play all game from the beggining and you must find what file will load after doing down the stairs.

and remember save before going down , because game will load the graphics and at the second time you will go down to the level level(x).maz is loading only one time and other hex editing changes does not take effect. and you need to play again the game from the beggining
and this is boring.

You said about puzzles and EOB and LANDS graphics viewer.

How these puzzle works?

How old is this post? and is total useless , none of the links works anymore. Since this post , I have all wallsets now and I re-wrote the introduction music of Eye of the Beholder 2 for my new Eye of the Beholder 4.
Is there any way to delete this post? , occupies space in the dungeon-master.com servers.
