[RTC] Sukumvit II discussion - spoilers

Post by linflas » 14-Feb-07 09:41

Image

I've been a bit bored with designing 'Forest of Doom' for a week because I spend 99% of my time on Photoshop and Google Images..
So here it is : Sukumvit II.
Don't expect a complete new story/dungeon. This is only an enhanced version of the original with DM2 wallset and items.

Download version 2d here

Whoa! Awesome title screen! I think I'll postpone my planned adventure in Sukumvit and wait until the new one is ready!

Hehe, great title.

That floating eye looks more scared of the adventurer than the other way around, though. Did he just war cry? :)

Actually, now you mention it, Soph...the Beholder looks like he's kind of "OMFG WTF IS THAT?!!?!". And I think he probably just left a bit of a mess on the dungeon floor.
From which orifice, I have no idea...

Don't suppose you can host the image elsewhere? A lot of imageshack.us is restricted to some IPs and I can't see it. Ta.

That beholder is from the D&D bestiary isn't it? Be careful about using copyrighted materials... I know it's for fun and it's free, but people can get weird if they find stuff that appears to be ripping off.

Love the pic though, nice and gloomy. There seems to be some weird effect with red ghosted text under your logo -- like the original Master from Dungeon master logo? Looks like a mistake.

That's why he's so upset.

it is from Scott Fischer : http://www.fischart.com/FischartGamed201.html
of course, i haven't missed the bottom line... and i can pencil a beholder by myself.
i just don't want to spend too much time for a title screen... if Mr Fischer complains about it, i'll suggest him to play RTC and enjoy the dungeon :)

argh ! you saw it Gambit ! the reason is i haven't changed the position for new/resume/quit buttons from DM2 title screen so i pasted the bitmap has a layer with very low opacity to find them easily when i test my dungeon.
when i flattened the image i forgot to remove the layer, and i haven't kept the PSD :)

Ah, right, I wondered why the colouring on the walls was rather 'boxy'!

If ther's one thing I've learnt with Photoshop: Always keep unflattened PSDs!!!!!!!!!!

Knowing the copyrights of monsters can be quite useful, as you can see at

That is a look of pure anguish on that poor monster's face, and there is no fitting emoticon to reflect this!

I never did finish any iteration of Sukumvit's, and I feel as if I should... hopefully this release should get me motivated!

Oh and you silly billy for not keeping an unflattened PSD, although I have made that mistake before, as well as resizing hi-res images and overwritng the original

Oooh, I'll check this out when I get some free time.

Just a comment on the title pic -- I think it would be more dramatic if you lost the extra swords and just had the one guy. Those swords are interfering and just look wrong IMHO.

?? I mean, the drama of the image is all wrong. It looks like he is being stabbed in the groin and having his arm chopped off!

a green dragon ? i'm very surprised that you reached this part of the game so fast ! and as you said in pm, you hadn't found any rune and used only staffs and potions !

I still can't get at that dragon, I played an hour with spells, but it really did not help out in the game, it is nice not to worry about light running out or restarting the game because I was injured. I still have three staffs unused, but now I don't have to carry the things anymore :D
I am confused about the firestaff, it sits on a table just out of my reach, with the purple floating head on one side and a staircase going up to somewhere. How do I get at that staff, I open the door, but can't grab it.
I was hoping to find some sort of map but you are cruel linflas

Don't try to get the firestaff yet. When you can get it, it's almost explicitly said.
How many corbums did you get ?
You need to explore all three ways carefully and then go to the fountain room with the 3 ram heads...

If you're already down at the poison slime area, you probably need to find the three armor pieces (head etc.) before reaching the green dragons

I only found two corbum so far. I opened the three ra doors, guess I need to look a bit more. I get spun around easy in this six level dungeon

How nice of you linflas  I guess it's good to check out what was missed. I left the game fighting munchers, I think I'm on the right track for finding the third piece of dragon armour, hope the corbum is around somewhere  :|
