I'm not sure this will work at all. The "normal" forest tile and the "wall" look very similar.

Concept is that forest become mode dense, and its edge of where player can move. Its similar forest trees as background so you dont have feeling that something strange jump at you from nowhere (because short range of view)

Right, this should work. It's the same technique I used in my forest demo from a couple of years ago. If you put cloned pillars (trees) 3 deep in front of walls, you can make things look pretty realistic. Nice job, Zed :)

I relased Xmas Dungeon which demonstrate new wallset concept, see first post (in Ravenhood it will work better, road will flip and single trees will not block path)

Wow! Great! Thanks. The graphics is nice and funny...

... but...

what the hell am I supposed to do? After a painful travel through the forest (the forest looks good but bumping on the sole trees can get a bit annoying) I finally found a dungeon entrance with Christmas
Spoiler
gigglers
inside - and sooner or later I get killed by them. I have no chance, I'm just to weak to win. Am I on the right place?

Jan
Spoiler
I have found that by getting to the black door and standing with your back against it you can actually pick them off and they don't inflict any damage. Once you have one or two of them move forward one pace and then turn left or right to pick them off. I think by standing with your back to the door they just round round in a sort of circle.
Zed
Spoiler
I have done everything on this level but can't get through the black door. I have tried hacking it with everything and can't inflict any damage on it. The scroll says knock the door they are fragile - lol

Use compass, it help in forest.

Dungeon, in few moments it look tough, but use some tactic and you will win. Am tested it and it is possible to reach game end (end is when you see "the end")

Door
Spoiler
is fragile which mean that can be destroyed by something, maybe you dont have it yet?

Jan

I restarted as I had used the
Spoiler
ful bombs
on other things and didn't have one to
Spoiler
blast the door with
. I suppose this could lead to a potential deadend but as the dungeon was so small it was no bother to go back and restart. I have now finished the dungeon. Thanks to Zed for a great entertaining dungeon. Happy Christmas.

Yeah, I'm finished too. "

So it was a short "demo" dungeon. I liked the new graphics, but the forest, to be honest, was somehow confusing to me. But I guess it's a matter of personal taste. Thanks, Zed, and Happy Christmas! :P

Looks nice :). But... be careful about having a visible path that's off centre... it can look very strange and confuse the player.

In movement i found that is no matter, dont need to be perfect in center, often wild path are like snake/wave straight is maybe less real.

Have some idea, in standard wallset floor you will see path (in all directions you look), and there will be scenery of leaves which will hide it, so it will create labirynth of path in forest which you may follow (or skip it and risk to lost)

Already i made progress in npc (see new screens)

Nice effect, although she's much too big when on the party tile. It will look very strange if there are other creatures on the tile behind her, as they will be too small for the given perspective. I would make her smaller and bring her down the screen a bit.

In Ishar conversation was also npc on full screen, i think its ok. There will be no monster around where npc stand.

Yes, I agree, it's a great effect. :-) But she's too big ;) Make her a bit smaller (bring her head into full view). It will look more effective. You could also try applying some colouring and lighting to her so that she looks more like she's actually there -- at the moment, she's lit with studio lighting, which does not work so great in a forest... ;-)

Already am focus on road system, and now it work ok. Standard wallset have no road, its made on scenery, few alternate gfx which flip, two main roads in north-south and east-west also side view and "crossroad" point. I can build from them path trough forest which will help to find important places like npc or dungeon. This was most important part because without it could be very confusing travell. Now few trees, bush and should be full playable.

EDIT
Ok maybe you have right, see update resized npc

I gave a quick try :) Hello Daggerfall ;)
But, I am quite disturbed by the forest background and I (again) bump into trees, or not. I can't tell easily.
Other than that, it gives quite a good atmosphere from the start.
