Inconsistent showing/hiding of switches

As discussed in this thread, making switches appear and disappear is inconsistent. We can use activate/deactivate on a wall switch to show/hide it, but not all types of switches work. The big oblong switch for example will never appear if it's set to Invisible and you try to make it visible. Gem switches on the other hand DO appear!

This is a strange inconsistency and really should be fixed or at least the differences should be documented. There's been a lot of banging heads over this ;-)
