Great! I accidentally triggered that staff once, so I guess it's useless now. And only recently I ate all my minor food so I have only dragon steaks and drumsticks left... :-(

I restarted a savegame a bit earlier when I had more food an tried to feed the hungry guys.

Since it seems I can drop only 1 item per plate, I gave them 1 apple, 1 corn, 1 cheese and 1 dragon steak / drumstick (tried both).

Still nothing happened.

Found a scroll nearby:

Have to figure out that one, maybe a specific order of food is required or something. Does the scroll say anything relevant?

That's the "If you proceed in a straightforward fashion through the roundabout way a shortcut will definitely open" scroll.

Oh darn, so I don't have the scrolls in the proper order anymore in the backpack. Now it might be difficult to send the proper one without some Kanji knowledge.
Might end up in snapshoting them all.

PS: It seems that scrolls are auto-sorted in some manner, probably kanji-alphabetically or something like that (though of course kanji would neither have an alpha nor a beta).

The spell scrolls are pretty clear, you don't nee to know japanese to uinderstand these, a verification of the rest would be nice though, since the sought scroll is supposed to be among them.

Actually each hungry spirit responds to 1 specific food item.

If fed them correctly, the door opens and you can take a sword in the room behind the door.

I had a sword before that looks a bit like an inquisitor, and now found a sword that looks a bit like a dragon fang, but either might be something else like a side splitter or a diamond edge.

Sophia, can you please tell me which sword is meant to be what?

PS: There is another strange room nearby with some posion shooter triggering floor pads and a strange pedestal that can be moved unto the pads by pressing a button, I didn't found out though what it is meant for.

Here are the weapon descriptions:

Sword of Darkness
A sword with the power of darkness entrapped within.

Dragon Slayer
Its mighty power is manifested against dragons.

I couldn't tell what some of the kanji were in the attack methods so I didn't mess with those, but let me know if you really need them.

I don't think I really need them, since I've got 2 vorpal blades and a hardcleave as well, but of course I'm curious. Maybe if Christophe is successful in decrypting the attack methods I'll know which sword is the better one. On a first glance they certainly look like Inquisitor and Dragon Fang, but since the Dragon Fang was just the CSB Inquisitor and these two swords have different Kanji, they are probably something else.

Incidentally, the filename for the 3d model of his first appearance is "Borketh".

I don't recall that pedestal you mentioned. I think I rushed through some parts and could well have missed a lot. I do recall an archery range though -- have you found that?

There was a riddle a good deal earlier where I had to shoot an arrow over a chasm in order to get an arrow on a pressure plate. But if you say an archery range you probably mean something larger with practicing targets - I haven't found that one so far.

Next thing is the dragon. 2 cute little baby dragons in the ante-room, who die squeaking after the first hit. Breaks an advernturers heart. And then past a dragon-decorated door big mommy. Most of the time you don't see mommy though. Like all monsters you have to be close enough to step on her toes to hit her, she's pretty big, together that makes you see nothing but very large reddish pixels.

Mommy doesn't wake up unless you kill her babies! Or hit her, obviously. I don't recall the babies attacking either, so you clearly have a murderous heart ;)

By archery range, I just remember a puzzle involving a target behind some wooden barriers or something like that...? I think it was in a secret area.

No, I'm not murderous - well, except in some parallel reality where I didn't reload :-)

After reloading I noticed that you can leave the little cute dragons alone.

Of course, if you want the dragon's hoard ... you can kill mommy only and leave the poor orphans behind ... aww

I'm not sure if I got the translations exactly right, but these guys seem like they're kind of jerks.

The first one seems a little too eager to help you out:

You have done well to come this far.
As one would expect from the Grey Lord's apprentice, of course.
Now we must have a substantial discussion.
You know where the Power Gem is hidden, right?
If you inform me, we can liberate the Grey Lord.
....................
If it's the case you have no intention of informing me, then
(something about listening, I don't quite understand)
You'll die right here and now!

And the second one offers some rather useless guidance:

It seems just a little bit too easy, doesn't it?
If you want to continue ahead, then go ahead.
However, I say, you must turn back immediately.
If you proceed, you will not have the chance to regret it...
Hehehe....

The first is when you meet Chaos, the second is when you defeat him in combat and he retreats.

In the second avi movie on the image Chaos takes away a gem fastened to Fulcrum's neck, I already guessed this might be the power gem.
Probably there was a discussion like in the LotR III DVD easter egg. "The power gem was destroyed." "But what if it wasn't?"

Sophia, can you understand what is said in the movie files?

Currently I'm stuck. There is some kind of chasm. Right now I don't find how to cross it.

EDIT: Had to look up that one on an Encyclopaedia map. Found my way across.

Well, they are on the image. If you don't have that, wait a couple of minutes - I'll upload them on my skydrive.

PS: Not every media player displays them, but VLC media player http://www.videolan.org/ does.

Here's the cutscene:

I humbly welcome you to my laboratory!
He! he! he!
Well, now, might you be so kind as to tell me the location of the power gem?
That fellow over there certainly didn't know.
Gyuh! Sneaky bastard!

(Some interjection I don't know)! The Power Gem!

With this, the world shall become exactly as I alone wish it to be!

I will wait to finish this battle until all of my power has returned to me...

Thank you!

Maybe you can also tell me who this guy is and what he says. He gave me a mirror required as a key to a nearby wall.

Yes, thanks a lot Sophia!
I am working on extracting all texts from the game (still a lot of work but this will be done). It would be wonderful to have a complete English translation, and we can even think about building an English version of the game by modifying the file containing the text strings.

I support this venture, though I'm not sure how much I can contribute, save for the translations themselves, of course. If I can get the texts in a machine-readable form it will be a lot easier for me to work from, too. Part of my headaches in doing it this way have just been trying to decipher some of the kanji as they show up on the emulated Saturn screen, and I have to look up unknown kanji by analyzing their content shapes as opposed to being able to just copy and paste them from somewhere. :D

By the way, Lunever, that guy is Librasulus. I haven't really gotten around to translating the rest of it because I've had a busy afternoon and the reasons above but I'll try to do it sooner or later. :)

I already guessed from his appearance that this might be the Nexus Librasulus, but I was a bit unsure because he has such a brief and completely uninteresting appearance only. He gives you a mirror, nearby is a mirror-shaped lock that opens a wall to the next level's stairway and that's it.

The extraction will produce images at first and not machine readable text :( (the game does not use any standard text encoding).
In order to obtain real text data (not images), I will need to build tables of characters to replace the fonts used in the game. While rather easy for hiragana/katakana, it will be harder to identify the 791 kanjis in the font. After that step, I'll be able to ouput real Japanese text, which will help translation as we will be able to lookup words.
So that's still a lot of tedious work ahead of us! If some Japanese people read this, maybe they'll volunteer to help us? kentaro? ;)

Stuck again on level 11.
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/455

Seems I'm missing a red gem required for a 3-gem-lock.
http://dmweb.free.fr/Stuff/DMNScreenshots/Gemlock.jpg

EDIT: Found after a very long search. Twas in a secret room very near the beginning of the level. In Néxus it can happen easily that you miss a floor item in narrow spaces.

Hmm, seems I need a wall inscription once more:

I'm in on the gallery of a large hall in level 12 (http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/456)

http://dmweb.free.fr/Stuff/DMNScreenshots/Gallery1.jpg
http://dmweb.free.fr/Stuff/DMNScreenshots/Gallery2.jpg

I guess something must be done to raise a pillar so I can proceed toward north.

Maybe I just missed the right button, maybe the Kanji say what is required.

Here's the thing from before. There were a couple of kanji that were just blobs to me so I had to infer from context, but I think it is probably ok:

My name is Lord Librasulus.
I am the spirit of pain separated from the Grey Lord's soul.
Borketh came from the separation caused by the mistaken experiment the former Grey Lord carried out, we became one once again-- however, the thing is, Chaos became substantial. His purpose was getting the Power Gem in his hands to create infinite mana, the origin of sorcery.
That is the Power Gem's most feared power.
When Borketh acquired that, the world started to fall into Chaos's grasp.

And the inscription is:
Believe in your own physical strength, throw!

EDIT: Fixed name and transliteration.
