CSB Windows version 0.8

Post by ChristopheF »

Version 0.8 is now available here thanks to Paul:

What's new in this version:
- You can use the keypad to move in the dungeon.
- There is a "Double size" option in "Misc" menu, to play in 640x480 resolution.
- This version allows larger object lists at the player's option. Like 1023 Worm Rounds instead of 365 (Original CSB limitation).
- A couple of bugs were repaired.

The game now errors when using magic boxes, and if you create a potion and consume it, your champion,s weight reduces. When it reaches 0, it will change to 599.99 kg! Other than these two bugs chaos for windows is ace, and brings back memories!!!

Thank you for the bug report. There have been a couple
of bugs with weight. I never found this one. And one fellow
played through to the end. Evidently he never used a magic
box and neither had I,

Thanks again, and keep me informed.

Sorry, I found one more! Grab a corbum (I tried KU) and it crashed. There was someting else, I threw a dagger at a muncher and it crashed, but I have not been able to repeat the error... Regarding the freezer boxes, if you ignor the error it still works, if you use an eye of time, it works just fine. Hope it helps.

Oh, did you know that to get the hints in the hint oracle, the save you want "hinted", must be in slot one (csbsave)? It might be an idea to put this up on this site so people know where to save their game.

The "feature" of having to use the first save when using
the Hint Oracle is being worked on by Lubor Kolar, I believe.
If he is not doing it, someone else will.

I know he was fixing the Utility so that it, too, could
use games other than the first.

The original Atari game had only one savegame. Someone
'hacked' the disc 'CSB1_HD_ST.st' to have multiple games
in the game engine. That is the disk I translated.

it's no real problem, it was just a thought. You said someone else completed chaos pc the other day, did he have any problem with the corbum?

The edit utility (for editing protraits etc.) was also behaving slightly strange, like crashing when I selected a colour.

Anyway, I'll keep running through the game and will report anything else I discover.

Just picked up ver 0.81 and found some serious bugs. Pause the game and it locks up. Die, try to reload and locks up on 'play game or ascii dump' screen', and finally, a bizarre one this, fill a chest with freezer boxes and try to pick it up, hey presto, and error message in C:\projects\CSB\PROGRAMS\CSB\CSBCODE.CCP at line 4745. It said it was a debug failiure.
Weight problem seems to be fixed, which is cool. Keep up the good work!

The edit feature is not supposed to work. I did not translate
it. Lubor Kolar is worj\king on it, however.

As for the Corbum, you should ask

Antti Kantee <pooka@iki.fi>

He is the one who finished the game. He did not
mention any problem with Corbum except that the game
crashes at the very end when the last Corbum is used.

The lockup when "Restart Game" has been corrected in
a future version, I think. The freezer boxes are
interesting. I'll look into that.

there appears to be no problem with the corbum in the 0.81 release, just previos ones. I could be my machine, as does seem to have an odd configuration..
