Is it possible to transport Charecters from the PC DM versio

I know that's asking for a lot and probably a huge hassle to program, but I figured I'd throw the idea out there anyway o_O

Hey, that's a good question !!! I too would like to play Chaos with my crew from Dungeon Master. Is it possible, maybe using an editor, to "copy" the characters ?

I did not attempt to make this possible and I am told
by someone who tried that it is not possible.

The characters are relatively simple data structures. The
source code is available for my version. If you can figure
out the format of the PC DM save files, perhaps you could
write a function to locate and decode the data in the PC DM
save file. I could probably incorporate your function in
my code and replace the characters during Make New Adventure.

In the Atari version of CSB they have gone to some trouble to
'encrypt' the data so that it is never a simple matter
of copying a piece of one file into another. The 'encryption'
keys are different for every file. I suspect that the PC DM
program also does such 'encryption' but I don't know that for
a fact.

Charecters transport

I believe that it would be great to have the possibility
to import the DM portraits that are included in the utility
disk. (I believe, that the DM characters are looking far more
better than the CSB ones...)

Actually, I have found a way to get my characters into CSB for Windows, tho' it's kind of a cheat. What I did was write down all the stats that I had for my characters from the PC version.
Then I started a CSB game for Windows game, grabbed 4 random characters out of the CSB dungeon, saved, loaded the Utility, and created a new game, and saved.
Then I loaded that save game into Dmute 1.3 editor, and using the Edit character option, changed the names, stats and pictures to match my PC characters.
Since you start CSB naked anyway, it doesn't matter what you had in the way of equipment, anyway...

You may think it's a pain in the butt, but, hey - It's better than nothing...

To Paul Stevens,

Now when Delevan found an easy way to transport characters from the PC version of DM using DMute the game is ofcourse much nicer so to speak. But since you are creating a Windows/PC version of CSB would`nt it be logic to make the characters from the PC version of DM to work with your version of CSB also? This would be the ultimate version of CSB :-) Isn`t it worth a shot? After you finished all bugs, intro, outscreens and all the rest ofcourse. With this function i promise i will pay for your product, and many others too iam sure.....
Atleast give it a big thought. Sorry i can`t helped you with coding, iam to stupid for that kind of stuff..hehe
