What he is saying is:each link on that page comes with the CSBWin.exe the game was designed with, and corresponding graphics.dat if applicable. (and txt)

Most of the newer releases of CSBWin are backwards compatible but are essential if you want to use any of the new features whilst editing. (DSAs..)

I would simply have a new older with each custom dungeon, rather than chopping and changing dungeon.dats and graphics.dats. You don't really need the new releases just to play plain 'ol CSB

i forgot about the encyclopedia site o.o thats where i first found this place, i did make 1 or 2 posts there, i think it was 2000 or 1999 when i did, but anyhow, ill go download te one from there, ill have to download winrar aswell >.< *doesnt understand why its used rather than winzip*

Winrar is superior to Winzip -- it compresses for more efficiently and results in smaller files. Important for us nerds...

maybe winrar just doesnt like me o.o

ah, and thanks paul, didnt see that one, btw, i have another thing to ask, concerning utilities, are you ever going to add those last features such as load champions and such, i really liked playing with those tools.

Nope. A couple of people have offered to make a
character editor and I offered to provide export/import
capabilities. But it they never did it as far as I know.

Forgive me if I ask something obvious and previously stated, but um, is there any changelog available for CSBWin? :)

I can't find the autogen.sh file needed for compiling CSWIN for linux...

is it still supported?

I guess it was never really supported.
The upto date versions are for pocket pc and windows- linux port had been done by someone else than Paul Stevens..
but he can tell you more.
Would be nice howerver, to have csbwin working under linux for sure!! (there must be somewhere
the autogen.sh file)

Go to:
dmweb.free.fr
In navigation:
Navigate to: "Fan Made"/"Clones"
Navigate to: "Chaos Strikes Back for Windows...."
Find: Clone-CSBwin-SourceCode-100.zip

That is the most recent complete release.
If there is someone who is able/willing to check out
a more recent release then let's do it. CSBwin has
settled down to be very stable and a new release
is probably a good thing. It is messy because I
like to test all the various platforms.

thank you for your reply.

I got an error during the configure:

config.status: error: cannot find input file: Makefile.in

Besides I need hermes but I couldn't compile it on my system, but I'll try further (also because the binaries for linux need it)

I compiled something once on Linux. For an ARM machine.
Took me the better part of a week to figure out how to
do it. I did it the simple, obvious way by writting
my own makefile. So I don't think you will get much
help from me in this endeavor.

Rebecka Svanberg did the Linux work with CSBwin.
If you write and ask, I can forward her email. I don't
want it to appear in public without her permission.

You need 7-zip, a very good freeware archive manager available at http://www.7-zip.org/

Do you have a link to the latest Linux versions (for different architectures, or preferably source code and list of dependencies if they're not straight forward)?

Thank you.

There is only one source code.
little/big-endian and Linux/Windows
versions are controlled via
#defines.

The source code is referenced a couple
messages up this page. If you need
help with it I can get you the name
and email of the lastest Linux developer.

config.status: error: cannot find input file: Makefile.in

That's using autogen.sh CSBwin11_1src.zip on debian Lenny. I should have all the dev libs needed (esd, hermes, etc.)

Also, when/if I run the binary (that you have compiled, not I), a window pops up and then closes, no debug data. This is what I get on the console:
root@lord[100%+]:/opt/csb/bin$ ./dm
Chaos Strikes Back 10.0v0
SDL initialized.

open(./Translation.txt)
open(./Translation.txt)
open(./Translation.txt)
open(./graphics.dat)
open(./graphics.dat)
open(./graphics.dat)
open(./graphics.dat)

It's possible that I do not have the right "config.linux" or "Translation.txt" or even graphics.dat files, where can I download the latest version of these?

Thank you

Hi Folks!

I'm an very old Fan (and Player) of DungeonMaster (since my Amiga 500 ;) ).
I found the SourceCode under http://dmweb.free.fr (SourceCode-11_014.zip) und will this compile under my linux-System.
In future, i plan an own ebuild for the gentoo distribution ...

But i have currently problems.
the Hermes Library is not (more) supportet - i need an backport for this-
when i disable this option (i fix this in the macros/autogen.sh File) the failed the Makefile.in :(

Code: Select all

checking for sdl-config... /usr/bin/sdl-config
configure: WARNING: CSB will be built without SOUND support!
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: error: cannot find input file: Makefile.in
Can you help me?

I cannot. Sorry.

Again, perhaps the people who did the
linux port are still around and can offer
some assistance. If not, I can try to
find their email address......it has been
a long time.

Hmmm - perhaps it could help if we would try to port original CSBwin/CSbuild to Allegro - that's available for Linux too. It's just the setup for the makefile then, which shouldn't be that complicated. Or - maybe it's worth to take a look in that Linux-source if it would be complicated to replace the used library by Allegro.
Can't be that much calls.
