Fullscreen?

Post by Fermen »

Hi, :D

I'm going to play CSB with CBwin and when I set the Csb-window to fullscreen the "game screen" won't follow it out in fullscreen. Then I saw the zoom function but It's not the same :( Anyone know how to view the game itself in fullscreen like if you runned it in dosbox (for example).

Regards

Sorry. Cannot be done.

If you need full-screen mode, switch to RTC or DSB.
Or get a smaller screen ;-)

Pretty sure I had something that got close to full screen after using the config file to adjust sizes and positions of interface items....? I realise that's not technically "fullscreen" but are you splitting hairs, Paul?

To me, full screen means no window frame, no menu,
no 'Windows" anything. If this fellow(?) has a 2048x1600
monitor then I think anything like your solution is not
going to satisfy him. I might be wrong. The best we
can do is make the window the size of the screen, fill
it with black, and scatter the pieces of the picture in nice
places on that black background.

Yep, that sounds good. I know it's not technically fullscreen but it might be a sufficient compromise. (By the way, I should have put a ;) at the end of my splitting hairs comment.) ;)

It gets pretty close to fullscreen if I use the zoom that is before max zoom. :D

Hi,

I was trying to figure out how to run CSBWin in full screen, and am confused that this thread says it cannot be done. I copied the "place" parameters from Conflux and pasted them into my CSBWin config file, and it does run in full screen, albeit up against the upper left corner. I am trying to find a way to center the image, or increase the size further.

Thanks

No, it does not.

You can run it in size 1, 2, 3, or 4. And you can make
the window background black and as large as the monitor
allows. But the game runs in a window. If you have set it
to size 4 then you have pretty much done what you can
do short of changing your monitor's resolution.

Maybe I just don't understand the difference. There is no start menu, no window border, and no window control gadgets, so to me it looks exactly the same as if it were in full screen mode.

Here is my 1920x1200 screen:
Image

Here it is at 640x480:

I'm trying to find the combination of settings that provides the largest view on my monitor - I think 640x480 works out best for me.

It looks great! I'm glad we were able to come
close enough to make someone happy.

I hope I understand the difference...... ;-)

If you use Control-Tab to select another application,
an editor for example, that is not maximized, it should
go on top of the CSBwin window. If the CSB window
were full-screen, it would disappear entirely when
another window was active. A full-screen application
could not share the monitor with another window.

Okay - I just wanted to get rid of the Windows interface, title bar, etc... and figure out the size and desktop resolution combination that would make best use of the monitor. Now I just need to find a program to switch resolutions when I launch CSBWin.

Cheers

Don't know where to post this, so I apologize, but wanted info.

I tried the RTC download, with three or more of the DM segments.
When I opened one to play, it stays in fullscreen mode.

I can't figure out how to get it smaller. Does the RTC always run in fullscreen?

You have to add FULLSCREEN<tab>NO in your RTC config.txt file.

(there's the config.txt file in the directory from which you run RTC - open it for editing (e.g. in Total/Windows Commander press F4) and add the above line into its lower part, so the appropriate part would look like this:

SCREEN_MODE 640x480x24
SCREENSHOTS NORMAL
FULLSCREEN NO

KEY_STEP_FORWARD NUMPAD5
KEY_STEP_BACKWARD NUMPAD2
etc... (with <tab> separating the things)

and save the changes)

If you have problems with this, let me know and I'll send you the file via e-mail although I don't know if that'll work on another computer.
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

Have you downloaded a conflux III package and checked the .bat and config files there? I would suspect Crash changed the 'place' figures in the top of the config file so that the screen with the nearest resolution was drawn further right and further down.

At th top is the place command, explained by zyx. Everyhing in ';' is just his notes, so it's just those five commands.

If you take the 600 x 400 confg and add either 80pixels (50 in hex) or 40 pixels (28 in hex) to the right numbers, you can probably shuffle things and expand things as needed.

Hopefully crash, zyx or paul will see this soon and explain better, but you could play with that config file in the meantime.

I'm sure I got something working almost "fullscreen" years ago. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I found my old config file. Here are some commands for doing fullscreen on a screen resolution of 1280x1024.

Copy these lines into your CSBWin CONFIG.TXT:

Code: Select all

; For 1280 x 960 screen:

; DUNGEON VIEW >>
Place A 4 0 21 e0 88 0 84

; CONTROLS >>
Place C 4 E0 21 60 88 380 84

; CHAMPIONS AT TOP >>
Place D 4 0 0 13F 21 0 0

; TEXT AREA >>
Place B 4 0 A9 13F 1F 0 2A4

; PROGRAM INFO >>
;Place E 4 0 0 140 C7 0 324
You will also need to create a batch file to start the game. OPen Notepad and paste this code into it, then save it as "play.bat" -- then you can double click the batch file to run the game fullscreen:

Code: Select all

start CSBwin directory=.\ size=extralarge size=full
exit

I edited the post above -- you also need to create a batch file.

I can't really offer tech support on this, as this is something I last looked at 9 years ago and all I can do is copy and paste that old code, I've no idea how it actually works anymore, sorry.

I am playing DM original under CSBwin12_5 now , and no game ever before has sent me back to my childhood the way it did , I am looking at the three lines of helth , stamina and mana as they are going up during sleeping ( and sometimes down then a quick up ) exactly the way I used to , the sounds are fine , the speed are spot on .. I recomend CSBwin to anyone wants to taste the original recipe of DM chicken..

and please , if there is anyone can help us to start it in a true centered fullscreen mode , please tell us how , there must be a way ! once and for all ......

thank you .

Get a large piece of cardboard. Color it black.
Cut out a rectangle, in the middle of the cardboard,
the size of the game's image on your monitor. Tape
the cardboard onto the front of your monitor with the
game's image centered in the centered hole in
the cardboard.

Bingo!

I couldn't help but burst out laughing when I read that! ROFL! Now, THAT'S an old-school "fix" :)

I too do not like the game in a window. I found this solution:

1. I downloaded a small program QRes and unpacked it in a folder with the game.

2. edited the config.txt file:

Code: Select all

;*** 1280x960 center y ***
Place A 4 0 21 E0 88 0 D4 ; DUNGEON VIEW
Place B 4 0 A9 140 1F 0 2F4 ; TEXT AREA
Place C 4 E0 21 60 88 380 D4 ; CONTROLS
Place D 4 0 0 140 21 0 50 ; CHAMPIONS AT TOP
3. I made a bat file:

Code: Select all

qres.exe /x 1280 /y 960
CSBwin12_100 directory=.\ size=extralarge size=full
qres.exe /x 1680 /y 1050
That's all. Now as I start the game, the program QRes change the resolution to 1280x960, and when I leave the game (normally or by Alt+F4), the resolution goes back to my default (1680x1050).

I think Paul uses his cardboard fix
but doesn't remove the cardboard
when he is finished playing. So
that's why his lines are always so
short. He's typing into the little
window in the cardboard.
