Crikey! Thought I'd pop in to see what's going down in DM town and I'm greeted by a fresh bout of nostalgia?! It feels like I've come back to a warm cosy home after a long winter in Irkutsk. Fantastic job Linflas, well done :D

Quick bug fix needed on the skin: Some backgrounds are still set to light colours even though they are using dark images. This makes it impossible to read the text on any browser where you've switched off images since the text ends up white on white (a big issue on mobil phones where I often surf these days).

Could you please update the stylesheet so that these background colours are set to a dark colour, something like #333 should do it. Thanks :)

Me again :-) I've been wondering why the forum takes so long to load now, and did some investigating. It's something to do with the 537Kb header image! :-)

A true-colour PNG isn't necessary in this situation, and It's always good to compress images as much as possible for web delivery, so I've uploaded an alternate version in JPG which is about 66Kb. As the image is so dark and lacks a lot of detail, one can get away with that. Could some nice person update the stylesheet to reference the JPG rather than the old PNG? I'd do it myself but I haven't investigated the phpBB3 styling system and don't want to mess it up.

I have replaced the png file with the smaller jpg one, indeed I don't see any visible difference.
FYI, I had to update the file name in two style sheet files: colours.css and stylesheet.css

good job guys ! i feel a bit bored by this header image btw... how about making several header images and adding some random displaying code ?

Code: Select all

.someclass {background-image: url(http://someserver.com/SCRIPT_DIR/random_image.php)}
(seen here http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1510695)

Nice idea. We just need some additional background images I guess :)

One of the problems with the new phpBB is that it seems the styles are parsed by PHP based on your session. This means you lose all benefits of caching, and would be made worse by adding in PHP code to what should really be static files. Do you have a view on this Christophe?

There are still caching features in phpbb although I don't know the technical details.
I would have to test the proposed script to make sure each background image is downloaded only once and still cached by client browsers. Otherwise I agree this would be a bad solution by slowing down all page displays and increasing the necessary amount of bandwidth from the server.
