phpbb upgrade to 3.0.8

Post by ChristopheF »

I'd like to upgrade the forum software from current version 3.0.4 to version 3.0.8 tomorrow night (January 25).
I expect this minor upgrade to take about one hour maximum while the forum will not be accessible.
Of course, I'll backup everything (DB + all files) before the upgrade so that in case of an issue I can roll back to the previous version.

Anyone against that plan? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

cool,

has the font been updated or are my eyes tired? Just looked a little smaller/neater tonight - I know it's before any update and most likely un-related. But it just looked smaller and neater!

I'm probably just tired!

Probably!

I keep changing my monitor size right now, so I'm not the best person to spot it if it happened :)

@money: no changes to the fonts on our side. Perhaps you changed your browser font settings, or are using a different OS? (Different systems/browsers render fonts differently.)

@Christophe: Thanks for doing the upgrades :-)

@money, maybe you accidentially clicked on CTRL + "-" or CMD + "-"; these key combos make the font size smaller or bigger on the fly! (plus makes bigger letters, minus makes them smaller) (what Gambit said)
Should be prepared for this update, but I will probably forget and still try to log on !! ;)

The upgrade went fine (at least it seems to).
Please post if you find something that was broken!

Please delete, move or rename the install directory before you use your board.
... was all I got for a few minutes until the board went back and I could read your warning explaining what seemed like a big root delete. It was a strange feeling for a few seconds, just imagining that suddenly, the DM board didn't exist anymore. :)

Well I would not say broken, but a few minor changes.

(i) The "View Active Topics" menu is empty.

(ii) Before if you were reading a topic and not logged in you could click on "reply", that would take you to the login screen. Once you had logged in you had the option to return to the topic with a reply box. Now when you login it brings you back to the main menu only, no option to return to the topic you were viewing.

This one is now fixed. This issue is described here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1875595

I'm still looking into (ii). The same strange behavior happens to me when logging into the Admin console: after entering my password, it brings me to the forum home page instead of the admin console directly.

Great, Christophe, thanks for you work and time! :D

The only thing I've noticed is that the D'n'D forums have now a double-book icon when logged in. But perhaps it has nothing to do with the upgrade, hasn't it, or it's an old thing and I've noticed it only now? It keeps confusing me when skimming over the screen.
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

It's a relatively new thing because I added a sub-forum for archived post at the weekend to clear some space for game posts. So the sub-forum is a second smaller book. Which was pretty weird but cool!

I have identified the cause of the second issue. It is caused by the custom theme proScreamer.
In each new version of phpbb, changes are made to themes and must be duplicated in custom themes. The following forum topic lists all changes that must be applied to upgrade a 3.0.4 theme (the one we currently have) to a 3.0.8 theme in small steps (each containing many individual changes to apply):
3.0.4 to 3.0.5
3.0.5 to 3.0.6
3.0.6 to 3.0.7 PL1
3.0.7 PL1 to 3.0.8
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=880735

I have uploaded the files of the current proScreamer theme here: http://www.dungeon-master.com/proScream ... 110126.zip
I'll let Linflas update the theme files.

Until then, you can either live with this minor issue or select another theme in your User Control Panel (the default phpbb themes were automatically updated).

That sucks. Themes should be independent of core code and should not require updating on every release! Silly phpBB....

well, apart from that,
the quick reply has maybe an issue:

text keeps scrolling upwards - only for long posts! - this is tedious because you cannot quite see what you write!*
or it jigs unpleasantly when you write( for each letter you type that is out of the box, the screen jumps from top/middle of text to where you write(but you see only half of the text and only for a short moment))

*Sure: I should use the real post button , not the quick reply !

Sorry but I have no issue with quick reply. Or I did not understand.
What browser are you using? Can you give step by step instructions to reproduce the issue?

Yeha, I just tried a long post of nonsens3 and got no jumping when compiling it nor when editing it.

What browser are you using? I'm on firefox 3.something

Re: phpbb upgrade to 3.0.8

Well I could reproduce it.

It happens only with IE 8 (which kind of sucks!), gchrome is fine

and I think it happens when I use F11 to enter full-screen mode and then try to type bigger texts and with preview comparison.
somehow the 2 scrollbars then (preview and quickreply box) collide or something. I think preview scrollbar has precedence over quickreply and therefore it jumps to preview.

That's such a limited edge case I think we can safely ignore it ;-)

I tried full screen with a large text & preview in IE9 Beta and it works fine. I agree with Gambit, let's ignore this minor issue that we probably can't fix anyway.

i've progressed significantly on proScreamer update. It's a rather long work and i hope not making any mistake in source code... because i cannot test the skin.
captcha is now included : my proScreamer current version is 3.0.6.

I finally kept GIF, because of filesizes lower than png. Most of icons have been redesigned, i hope you'll like that new version :)

Linflas, many thanks for the theme update!
I have uploaded the new "proScreamer2" theme, it is available for selection in your user control panel, in addition to the previous proScreamer theme.
Please test the new theme for a few days and we'll replace proScreamer by the new version if no issue if found.
