So I created a terkio2 account to get in touch, here.

Here is what happened.
I had entered my password wrong ( Caps Lock was on ) so I had to enter the captcha sentence.
It doesn' t work. I am sure I did not change my password and I type right: the user name, the password and the captcha sentence.

Then I went into the "Forgot your password" procedure. It fails telling "The e-mail user name information submitted could not be found".

Then I tried, creating a new account. It failed telling "The entered e-mail address is already in use".

Finally I created this "terkio2" account using another e-mail address.

I don' t understand what's going on.
Is my "terkio" account hacked ? it's password changed ? The e-mail address changed ?
Can it be restored ?

I changed the password of the 'terkio' account to a temporary password and sent that password to the email address listed in that account. So you should be able to get it there and then login and change your password.

It does not work.
I cannot log in "terkio" with the temporary password.
I did receive this password in my e-mail, so the e-mail address in the "terkio" account is ok.
Could the kaptcha sentence be wrong ? Please check wether you can log in my account.

That's exactly it. The captcha was wrong.
The proper response is "Danger thus reveals its face" which I've now updated the front page to say.

Something else looks wrong to me.
The password recovery ( When you click on "I forgot my password " ).
It told me "The e-mail/username information submitted could not be found". I did submit the address registered in my account.

That's odd. Sophia, what was the phrase you updated? It's never been changed to my knowledge and should always have been what you said you changed it to.

I remember I had used the captcha sentence, may be a year ago, login had worked all right.
The captcha that did not work on me yersterday, was "Thus danger reveals its face", I know it too well.....I tried so many times

It's never started with "Thus" as long as I can remember, unless another administrator changed it at some point...?

I don't know. It started with "Thus" before I fixed it.
Someone at some point must have broken it, but I have no idea who or when.

I changed it around back in November when we had that spammer rush, but it blocked all real attempts for people to log on a couple of days in a row as I mis-typed something. So I changed it back to the original when the spammer rush had stopped.

As far as I knew since we've had quite a few new people since then and now, it was all fine.

Hmm, unless I simply disabled it, and so no new people need it? So only tekaro refreshing an account got stung?

What about this other issue, Beo ?

Not the person to speak to I'm afraid, not the technical one by any shot. I'll have a quick look in case it#s something easy, but that just sounds odd


Anyway, the fix hasn't worked, because I've just been e-mailed by two people who can't log on today

Hmm, curiouser and curiouser.


All the countermeasures except guest posting (which doens't matter because guest accounts cannot post on any of the forums) is disabled, and the form has the question that the two people today said they tried.


I did swap around thus and danger back in october november for the spammers for about two days, but then swapped it back. So nothing has changed recently unless there has been some weird database back up / glicth / etc that suddenly pushed us back seven months.


Anyway, I guess I'll try seeing if I can register an account?

Ok, so despite what all the other countermeasures are registered as, it seems 'thus danger...' wins. Despite all the Q&A actually being diabled as far as I could see. Anyway, just changed the forum references, and hopefully let people go on as they were.


Now worried of course about two similar e-mails today with similar screen shots. Are the spammers getting more clever, or was it just coincidence?

It is the one I submitted.
I received your e-mail and answered. Feel free to ask, in case there more I should do.

Today, may 25 2014, I see, the captcha sentence is wrong.
No problem, for me, though. I checked with the right sentence; It does work.
