Easy way to target tiles in a large dungeon?

Post by Trego »

Is there an easy way to target tiles in a large dungeon?

You know when you set targets on relays for example, but you have a large dungeon, and only a small map pops up to locate your target on and a takes a few clicks on random tiles in the right area before you locate the one you want. Is there an easier way?

I've tried making the pop up map larger, but you are unable to re-size this window. Is there a zoom in function that I am unaware of?
It might be just the laptop that I'm working off.
It's not a bug in the program, I've just gone and done something weird.

Yeah, this is a big usability problem in RTC. Those popup maps should have zoom features and scroll bars. There's no way around it at present.

All I can suggest is try and break your dungeon down into smaller areas, maybe linked by teleporters or other mechanics.

Thanks, for a minute there I thought I was getting old and needed glasses. Not that I don't have glasses but they are more for long distance, so I don't think I need bifocals yet.

A zoom function would be very useful indeed. Having multiple relays in a 72 x 98 level isn't fun. So this makes for a good suggestion.

Gambit will/could you move this post to the 'RTC suggestions', or should I make a new post there?

I TOTALLY couldn't agree more. There NEEDS to be some sort of zoom option, or a fixed grid scale (fixed zoom).

it's anyones guess at 149x149, heh. start from the top left corner and resize as you go while adjusting the dungeons level positions, don't use stairs til the end to make life easy or do what gambit suggests.

I've found that you can just about work with 64x64 but anything larger is a huge problem. Avoid building large levels!

yup, i designed a maze level 149x149, found out very fast that targeting was hard to do, unless you spread each target enough apart, which is possible but limited. make it bigger as you go helps too, leave the stairs to put in later.
