Undercroft iPhone game

Post by alandale »

Undercroft Web Page
Undercroft on the App Store

This is by far my favorite iPhone game. It's a 1st-person RPG, somewhat similar to Dungeon Master but with the major exception that it's turn-based. Five character classes to choose from, various skills and spells, and a nice variety of environments too. Lots of fun, and it took me almost 30 hours to complete (but I do tend to be slow).

Look closely at the loading bar for a nice DM reference.

Wow, that looks pretty cool. Some lovely visuals there, and yes, a great little nod to DM on the loading bar :-)

Good to see you around again!

Those screenshots have given me some good inspiration for new RTC wallsets too. I wonder how easy the one with the arches would be? Not sure what issues that has for obscured items and monsters, but I guess it should still work.

That wolf looks like the one you have in FoD Linflas!!!

engine looks like some real 3D textured "planes" and 2D bitmaps for items and monsters (which is quite easy to code). if RTC or DSB had that kind of engine, we could have further distance view and making wallsets would be a piece of cake... i've seen similar games on Nintendo DS and pocket PCs such as ID software's "Orcs and Elves".
wolves are you know... wolves ;) i used google images to make the views, i guess they did the same.

Nope, no actual 3D. I looked at the art files. It's 2D all the way, just like classic DM.

Yep, Alandale mentioned it and I spotted it :-)

Ful-Vi-Bro isn't a valid spell though! ;-)

I'm a couple of hours into this and can only echo that it's excellent, and more than anything makes me pine for a DM port for the iPad. It's a lovely engine. DM would work so well on these devices.
