RTC Editing Wiki

Post by Gambit37 »

Having got thoroughly frustrated recently trying to find anything in the forums, I thought it would make more sense to start getting our knowledge into the DMWiki.

For editing RTC, the forum is fine for discussing how to do things, but it's not really a good way of finding those solutions later. We should try and get in to the habit of posting solutions into the Wiki once they have been discussed and tested here. We all seem to be doing the same things and asking the same questions which is getting to be tiresome and redundant.

So, I've set up a basic page on the DMWiki. There's nothing there yet except a rough contents list which I'm sure will expand massively over time. I'll add to it as and when I'm able, I hope you'll contribute your findings too

It still looked a little empty when I visited the Wiki. I added a little for some of the basic dungeon designing for those new to it, like me.
It's not a bug in the program, I've just gone and done something weird.

For those new to adding mechanisms, The Wiki has been updated:

A simple 'How to' guide has been added to the mechanisms section with all the main mechanisms from DM, eg zoom, hit and run, and the amalgam/firestaff mechanic, etc.

(Although these may be a little out of date due to changing editor versions, but you will be able to get the idea, any confusion just reopen the DM dungeon in the editor)

I see that I am a year late in reading these posts, but any and all work on RTC editing documentation is greatly appreciated! I began playing DM on my friends Amiga About 1992 and haven't stopped since. I just joined the forums, and am looking forward to participating.

I have posted some new information in the Wiki under the existing heading "What are Triggers and Targets?" Take a look, and make additions/corrections as you see fit.

Thanks!

A few more monster images added to the wiki; Minotaur with hammer; Minotaur with axe; small version of the 'rat'; wraith; zombie; and others.

I'm not sure how to set up/start a new page/subpage on the wiki as the Monster one is now getting rather large due to all the images, currently about 30sets.

Edit: Never mind figured it out.

Not sure if I should say bump, or quote myself again, or just wait till more images go up, or just assume people will be notified when the wiki changes though auto reply things. So until someone complains (or I get banned).

There are some more plant monster images added to the Wiki.

...I've just started playing around with GIMPshop, and putting things together.

Nice one!

The Bronto is from either Captive or Hired Guns.... Mr Gambit can get in there to edit the wiki and be authoritative.
The Plumapple ver II is cool.

The Bronto was from Captive, the triceratops would have been done too, but the black background makes it a little harder.

The Plumapple, I was working to move the plants from wallitems to the floor so as not to block movement, and it just seemed like a good idea to have some 'evil' ones.

New monster images added:
Bulette (turtle thing) large and small images
Crawling Giant (no side images)
Medusa
Gargoyle, also comes with a handy alcove

Edit: could add other weapons to the Ents if required/requested (maybe other monsters too)

RTC wiki is in english. Is it possible to add other languages? I`m not talking about myself and polish language, because it wouldn`t be worth it - I guess not many IPs from Poland (except me) comes to DM forum or Encyclopedia ;) just asking theoreticly :D
I was thinking about french language, or maybe german, if someone would have a lot of spare time he could translate RTC wiki (or whole DM wiki) or its parts to french, because as I can see there`s a lot of french speaking people interested in RTC.

Yes, yes it is, preferable someone with more than just English as a language (counts me out).

All they would have to do is sign up for the wiki, add a new links into the French, or German pages, or another language (in the new 'Other Languages Supported section), translate what is already there into their language, but if translating can't be done they could just start a new, its amazing that earlier this year the wiki for RTC was almost empty.

New images added in the Custom Item images section:
Apple tree: one, two, and three apples (basic tree with apple images added)
Lava pit off
Sand
Pick axe
Camp fire

I've updated the rust remover mechanic found on the wiki in the Mechanisms section.
All armour, swords and axes that look metal like now have a clone that can be rusted and un-rusted (rust removed) back to their original item.

This may or may not interest some of you.

The ship has been up for a while but I've only now tested the graphics in a dungeon.

Added a Dungeon Time Mechanic to the Wiki. Unlike the substitution Strings that display elapsed time since the dungeon was started: %DAYS_TAKEN% %HOURS_TAKEN% %MINUTES_TAKEN% %SECONDS_TAKEN%

The mechanic has 2sec real time equalling 1min dungeon time, calculating dungeon minutes, hours, days, months, years. It only has 4 months to the year which could represent the seasons. The purpose being the weather/wallsets may now be related to season, and some events may only take place at certain 'times' in the game. I very simple watch is also included in the example.

New images added:

ImageImage

Hydra with 2 heads and Hydra with 3 heads. The images are a cut and paste of the Bone Snake images also found on the wiki.
(not all of the possible attack images are present yet, that is two heads attaching at once image)

I've put them on the Dragon Clones page.

Hydra with head/s severed and stump/s present will be added shortly.

They may look small...I've set the size of them to be the same as the full screen for RTC (this may mean that no offset is needed, but may also make the click tab features work better)...I'll have another look at them, but hopefully they only look small because of the large empty space and scaling used in the wiki.

I have noticed that some green flicks are present on some of the images where I may not have erased too well, these too will get update.
